Great scene here. Genie was fabulous. For many years she was overlooked whilst Tony got all the praise. Genie was amazing and she was just a teenager then.

Really enjoying seeing it again all these years later. It holds up well, but attitudes and times have changed a lot. Can't imagine my kids being married when they were 17.
Laura Steen, 35+ years ago, people considered 18 grown. The draft had recently ended along w/ Vietnam. Their parents had married and had children at that age. Many people married at 18 then too. It's been a gradual thing to "wait" to marry and have children until late 20's and 30's. Now we call 25 year olds "kids".
I could not have said it better!! I moved out (NOT A RUNAWAY) when I was 15, worked 65hrs a week, got my GED at 16 on my own (nobody pushing me), walked and took the bus where ever I needed to go. My parents were within 2 miles. However I led a very interesting childhood, no soap opera would even believe LOL.
I read somewhere that Genie used to sit in her bedroom every night and think about the story and the lines and why "Laura" did or said things and really try to become "Laura". I think that is part of what makes her such an amazing actress.
I believe she said that in her TV Guide interview. She was on the cover-quite a big deal for a daytime star at the time-with a photo proclaiming her the “tragic princess.”
I just watched "Bare Essence". Genie Francis and Lee Grant were the best things in it. I was genuinely surprised how good GF was because I thought she was the most boring actress in 1985 North&South. "Bare Essence" was 1982 before she took acting lessons and she got loads of offers including the lead in "Splash". Doesn't seem like acting lessons did her much good. What's strange is GF thought her best acting was in North&South. No offers after that one and I can see why.

Granted, she had the most boring role in North&South. I tend to believe her acting did not improve as she got older. Maybe it was a confidence thing or she got bored with soap acting.

SCott seems very nice but I read recently that GF tried to explain the situation with her and Luke. She said that Luke thought she was wonderful and others in her life always wanted her to change. Also, and this must come later, he taught her to laugh.
Genie should have a mantle full of Emmy statues. She is one of the most beautiful and talented actresses ever. Even in 2023 she still has the passion for her character Laura. I'm really enjoying her now in 2023, she is back to being the strong independent woman we all loved back in the 80's. I do wish Tony Geary hadn't chosen to destroy the character of Luke as we all loved him. But he did and now the character is dead so there will be no reunion. Kevin is growing on me, but sometimes I wish she was back with Scotty.
She looks like the present day Laura as she argues with Scott. She was such an Awesome actress. She got so cheated out of what she was given on that show.

It bugs me that they have Laura being so judgemental towards her mother here, for not wanting to continue living with someone (Rick) who has an ongoing attraction to Monica, as if that's so unthinkable:( She says her mother ruined everything "just because of one night," but it's not that simple, a lot has to be wrong for the "one night" to have occurred in the first place...
Kind of sad they didnt make laura teenager for alot longer, even with luke nineteen when she got married, Her youth was shortchanged in soap lamd and real life.

Never realized it before, but Don reminds me of Freddie Mercury of Queen a lil and how he looked around this same time. I love Freddie. Never noticed it back then.
Genie and Kin are doing a great job. This story arc made and still makes me murderous - but I can't stop myself from revisiting it a little because I really loved Scotty and Laura and how that rape changed them both...in horrid ways for Scotty and ultimately, Laura became stronger and the tough, smart woman that she is today. I was glad when Luke was made to own his actions with Lucky all those years later.
I can understand why Laura couldn't tell Scotty. One minute he's telling her he couldn't handle the total truth if he found out she had been attracted to the guy and the next he's demanding the total truth.
Good grief why didn't they just take an ad out in the paper that they were sleeping together again? Laura can't wait to tell her mother, Scotty tells Bobbie, they tell Brian and Claudia, good grief, ick! Scotty practically blackmailing Laura into group therapy was bad enough, I wouldn't want to tell a room full of strangers my most personal business! Oh well, I guess it couldn't be a soap opera if the characters couldn't talk everything to death, when do they find time to work, or even take a bath? They can't stop talking everything to death long enough, lol!
I wish that I could tell you. I have been reading and watching quite a bit about Luke and Laura since I got interested in them. It might have been on the "Intimate Portrait" about Ms. Francis. I watched that on You Tube.
Laura has to be a full time wife, keep house, make the coffee, etc. and Scotty is definitely the one she answers too. Also the actress who plays Starr looks like a girl whereas Genie looked to be 25 or so when she was 17. It is interesting how much attitudes have changed over 30 without me really even noticing!
I don't know if you watch OLTL but watching these I have been comapring things to Starr Manning. She is 17 and the actress who plays her is 17 (turning 18 in May even). She was pregnant and the baby died. She and her boyfriend Cole are pretty popular characters I think. But they treat her like a girl. She lives at home and goes to high school etc. Her father conrols her. It is interesting to compare to 30 years ago. They refer to Laura as a grown woman several times. TBC
I was young when these eps aired. Under 10. Scotty was on gh before Family Ties was popular. Am I alone seeing Michael j. Fox (alex) seeming a lot like Scotty Baldwin?
That's why in this time frame GH was AMAZING entertainment.... you could actually relate to all of the characters and their motivations... they were so human, real, plausible.
