When Judith was murdered, everyone who knew her or worked with her was shaken by the news, especially Don Bluth who loved her like she was his own daughter, remarking how talented she was and how easily she could pick up on his instructions. He also felt partly responsible because they had just found out about her abusive home life (Judith kept quiet about it until she broke down trying to sing "Soon you'll come home" and confessed everything) and they were planning to do something about it. They were too late as she and her mother were killed by her father before he committed suicide. The movie was delayed, but they decided to keep going, for the sake of her memory. This song, heck even the whole movie, is a testament in memory of Judith Barsi. The love we have for her will survive forever, no matter what.

It was after she died. I heard from one source that Don Bluth left the studio 4 a week after hearing about her death. When he came back, he and others at the studio came together and wrote the song in her memory.
So the song soon you'll come home she was suppose to sing it and couldn't get through the song cause she kept crying probably cause of everything she was going through. This song was made after she died.

It was after she died. I heard from one source that Don Bluth left the studio 4 a week after hearing about her death. When he came back, he and others at the studio came together and wrote the song in her memory.

This was one of my absolute favorite movies as a kid... And I always thought this song didn't really seem to fit the movie... Now, 33 years later I learned the meaning behind it and I'm heartbroken by that information... RIP Judith and Maria.
