A very good film, thank you! I love watching these films not just because they're good but because they remind me of my childhood: the cars, the cookers, the quilts on the bed, so many things.
This was cute..the neighbor was so over the top.. nosey&annoying & the way he ... took care of the piano tuner& lesson; his own mother.. he's great...handles it all..loved that weary resignation....so entertaining..like a British Bewitched episode only much much darker&the Darrin characters wife is more Elizabeth Taylor than Elizabeth McGomery...so convincingly she come off sweet innocent flirty& flighty& so genuinely bewildered..truly a quick witty little flick..And all on the first day of school being on holiday..his vacation..not to mention anniversary..boy what a well trained husband indeed!!
This neat little film delivered the same atmosphere, light black comedy, and plot twists that were in many episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (30 min.) and Alfred Hitchcock Hour. It sustained the suspense straight through to the end. Very enjoyable, thank you for posting.
You're right. It does have the flavor of the Hitchcock TV shows. BTW, the best one of those was the 30-min. one called "The Glass Eye" with Wm. Shatner and Jessica Tandy. (Not on TH-cam any more.)
Brilliant film! I'd never heard of it before and thoroughly enjoyed it, the main actor, Peter Halliday is great, very convincing, and the plot is really gripping! I love English movies of those times. Thank you for posting!!!
I also like the awareness of social snobbery - he's only a grammar school teacher in a middle class suburb but his mother acts as if he's the headmaster of Eton!
Classic movie. Peter Halliday brilliantly acted. Coming home and suddenly finding a man dies in his bathroom. His tensions and expression is what to do with the dead body. And his neighbour and others ringing the house door bell frightening him. And what a twist in the end.Really enjoyed the movie.

I dunno' a man can't dig a shallow grave in his lounge room to bury a dead stranger, without hassles from his neighbours. Not a good start to his holidays. I hate it when my wife leaves unexplained dead people around the house.
Me, too. If I've asked her once, I've asked her 100 times to leave a note when she bumps someone off and has to run an errand or two. As for the neighbors, it's so typical that they show up uninvited and walk in unannounced whenever I'm disposing of a dead body.

Reminds of a Sherlock twisted script and well acted BUT wondering how she was going to explain to the police the dead body if her scheme had worked....mmmm...will appreciate more such interesting films. Yes I noticed that too. Quite common in films as most British houses are pretty small, if the sets are made to the correct size it's much harder to get all the right camera angles, movement etc while looking realistic.
Wow. Movie's unexpectadly great. 1. To stay out of trouble man should never touch the corpse of a stranger in his house all the more so to hide the dead body. 2. There are two main possibilities. The first: your wife isn't involved in the crime, and the corpse in your bathroom is just a ridiculouse coincedence, and it'll all work out so you shouldn't be bothered and call the police. The second: your wife is involved in the crime and in that case shouldn't you learn first what exactly happend before cover the crime and making yourself an accomplice? Perhaps after you learn your wife has been a criminal all along and lying to you, probably sleeping with other men, and you has been just a fool, a front for her dirty deeds....In that case I think you don't want covering for her, and even more don't want her as a wife anymore... So again no reason to hide the evidence of the crime. 3. Movie ends at the extremely interesting point. What his wife will tell to the police? Perhaps she'll try to make her husband the killer. Something like: who would bury a corpse under your house floor except the killer himself, trying to hide the evidence of his crime? 4. As for the nosy neighbour. I don't know. Perhaps he should fuck her. She obviously wanted him to lay her down.
Yes, I had to chuckle at the scene of a police inspector taking the time to visit a shop over some stolen electric blankets. Just 15 years or so later things had got so bad that in 'The Sweeney' Jack Regan was calling London a war zone.
Moved along nicely when had the Mr. Magoo or Gilligan's Island incidental music playing. Comments seem to have a thing going on with Billy Paul & Mrs. Jones.
She was rich~ she was up to no good and was being blackmailed by the guy she killed, (possibly in self defence,) it will become obvious that hubby knew nothing of it, and he will get a light sentence or fine for intending to prevent the course of justice with extenuating circumstances, he will move away and start again under the assumed name of Eric johns ! She on the other hand will have to confess why she was being blackmailed, and at the very least she will be shamed to all her family, she will get an expensive lawyer and get a short prison sentence. I hope this helps you sleep better!.
Very good for its type.. A few sort of spoilers here if you haven't seen it yet..~ Plenty of plot floors for this day and age though...The wife might well have been down the cop shop reporting an intruder attack and self defence injuries while the stupid husband is burying the body~. . And as if no one would smell new concrete/cement in the house?~ and As if no one questioned an otherwise smartly dressed teacher being filthy dirty and covered in sweat and b.o while giving a lad a piano lesson?~ Also I thought (at first) the nosey neighbour fancied the pants off him and by todays standards that tea and offer of making him a meal would be outrageous flirting. ~and why would the police go to a teachers house just because they found out he bought 3 bags of cement? ~ maybe I just need to get out more!
Murder in Suburbia. Very entertaining and highly watchable. But what a crazy plot - that a respectable schoolmaster should bury the dead body under the boards? No matter how much he loves the wife he believes committed the murder? The ending is startlingly disconcerting - a genuine big surprise - as, till then, the wife seemed genuinely innocent! And to think that both the snoopy neighbour and the teacher’s interfering mother were very suspicious of the wife! Another B movie gem!
Spoilers: ok I think I understand what happened - when the wife ran out, she was not intending to go back to the house, but to get the money from the bank and clear off abroad. But when the bank would not let her open the deposit box without the key, she realised she had to go back to the house; if her husband had come back then she had to somehow convince him she knew nothing about the body before finding the key and leaving again.
burying a body under your floorboards is never a good idea, even in the 60s, so easy for land titles records to eventually be your undoing, even decades later

The main character is described as dull music teacher. Dull people don't buy frilly baby doll sets for their wife. They also don't spread them in that fashion over the bed covers. I'm beginning to suspect the movie won't be as funny as described
The mother played Mrs Hardman in Coronation Street - they killed her off early on her being an older character - she died on the staircase of what would later on become Hilda Ogdens house - ironically she lived to a very ripe old age and could have still been in the show years and years later
charming film -- but I just don't understand the significance of the duplicate strong box key -- why should the pusher have a duplicate of the wife's key? in the US, strong box keys are stamped "do not duplicate"

I wonder what he would have done if he lived in an apartment building instead of a house? Nobody locked their doors? Any and everybody was just free to walk in his home like his neighbor or a blind man? Yet the mother somehow was stuck outside ringing the doorbell? Thats the way I read it too~ but we didn't know for sure till the very end.
