    Snapping a chalk line across the wall for each line would drastically faster than measuring & marking out every 4' for every 6" line through out the entire wall, Chalk lines come in black chalk as well. But to each their own.

    Would you want to put a few vertical lines where shiplap wood would naturally join together? Like staggered brick?

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our wall is short so we didn’t but it’s a great idea if you have a longer wall! I would stagger them like a wood floor.

    the O.I.D. stamp set Barnwood planks has stamp that is a join for planks that would go good on the shiplap lines.If you alternate the line joints where they get thicker you could then stamp the joins.

  • @ashestoblessings42
    @ashestoblessings42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've been watching a lot of your videos this evening. ;) The way I did my shiplap, to cover up an ugly paneled wall - (it was a short wall also) I bought 3 sheets of underlayment, painted the first layer a light gray, second layer white using a wash effect. After it was dry, I hung it on the wall (using a nail gun) caulking the vertical seams, and also used a sharpie and level. After that was finished I did another very light white wash over the lines to mute the black. I fooled everyone - even my friend, an artist designer!! So yes, there are many ways to do shiplap on a very tight budget.

    Would it be quicker if you held the measuring tape at the top of the wall, stretched it out vertically & mark off the 6 inch points all the way down, then moved over to the next place & do the same?

  • @meme7591
    @meme7591 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm not a fan of the side idea however you like it and that's all that counts! I would have done personally a thin piece of plywood and I would have measured everything all out and numbered it to know where each piece goes and I would have utilized the table saw. And made very little lines. And if you wanted those lines colored in to make them look deeper with black. Then so be it. But I'm not a fan of the marker on the wall. However but doesn't mean I don't still love you guys! I told my cousin up in northern Maine to watch you guys. And she is going to be all over your channel LOL

    So with shiplap. Wouldn't it be more then one long piece of board on the wall? I mean shouldn't it look more like a bunch of boards on the wall or not? I want to do something like this but my walls are tan so i dont think it would look good.

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. Our wall is short so we just left it continuous but if you wanted too, just draw a random lined down here and there. You would want to stagger it like a wood floor. I don’t know how it would look on a wall that wasn’t white.

    I have real shiplap in a few of my rooms and it’s a LOT of work. And costly because we hire the ripping and hanging part out. I think I may give this a try in a discreet area on a narrow wall behind our toilet. One thing I might suggest to make it look a little more authentic is break up those long runs with some random/vertical lines.Thanks for sharing! 😊

    • @JamiRayVintage

    What kind of Sharpie was it? And real ship lap has uneven areas ... so little offness to me adds to the character of the wall...heheeehe I was thinking of using a long straight ruler and painting with a paint brush lines.. so glad to see this!!!

    • @lisab.3091

      Agree. I would definitely also go over the line a second time in a few spots to widen the sharpie line to make the edges of the fake boards not look so perfectly straight.

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi L.L. I understood you perfectly! The way I would do it would be to find the two highest points on your wall and run a straight string from one side to the other side. Make that be your reference for measuring and start your lines about 6 inches or 15.25 cm down from the string line.
      Hope that helps! -Zeb

    If your base paint was more “rustic” I bet the irregular lines wouldn’t be a problem. Regardless. Looks great. I may be doing this on our ugly rv walls. Anything is better than marbled brown barf pattern. 😂

    Are your walls textured?

      They only have texture from the roller. So not much.

      would this work on a textured wall?

      It might. The line may get a little wavy here in there with the texture of the wall but you could probably achieve the overall look.

    Did you just absolutely get lucky that the light switch fell in between two lines? Is shiplap basically a wood floor on the wall? I agree with another comment that you should have some dividing horizontal lines here and there.

    Instead of measuring down and making all the tick marks. Use the level and run the pen along the level. Leave the mess-ups. Real shiplap are not perfect edges with a gap between each board. So the messups look more like real wood instead of lines drawn on. You can even draw in a few knots on the edges. Nevermind about the level. Just saw the rest of the video. You did that too.

    Also try "a Ben a qui" paste... doesn'tchange the color of the paint on the walls when you try to take a mark off..I haven't tried it on permanent marker though. But I've tried it on like just about everything else and let me just tell you it is the bomb all natural doesn't change the color of anything doesn't ruin anything and helps take rust off things and mineral marks and scuffs off walls and whitens your sneakers for your souls and I'm just can't tell you how much better I like this than mr. Racer. And it's really good on glass tops. Give it a try I think I spelled it right LOL but you buy it on Amazon and it's all natural non-toxic

    A snap of a chalk line would be better.

    • @scclif

      Nope because that chalk is poisonous and permanent. meaning if you make a mistake Magic Eraser it's not going to take it off it's easy and it's dusty when you snap.

    Creative idea, but I think I’ll stick with wood.
