    Reloader 22 is the most consistent powder I have found for my 270. Thankfully I have quite a bit of it because it is like winged unicorn crap to find for sale out there. Another great video man! Thank you!!

    IMR 4350 is my general "do almost anything" powder with Varget close behind. I do use Win 760 and StaBall 6.5 when the 4350 isn't available for most loads in the .243 - 30.06 range of calibers.

    I got in on the IMR Enduron powders. Excellent results with the 300WBY using 7977, and the 270 win using 4955. Very little change in either velocity or accuracy over a fairly significant temperature variance.
    Unfortunately IMR has discontinued the lineup to help keep up to the higher demand options.

    I have quite a lot of all these powders on hand. Retumbo works well in the 300 Phoenix and H1000 works quite well in the 6.5x284 Improved. I have used H4831, IMR7828 and some of the older discontinued powders in some of the Weatherby magnum cartridges with good results. I wish H870 and H450 were still available, they were excellent powders.

    Five favorite powders in good supply on my bench.
    Rifle:
    Retumbo
    IMR-7828
    IMR-4350
    Reloder 19
    AA1680
    Handguns:
    H110
    Universal
    Longshot
    Power Pistol
    Blue Dot
    I've got many others that I picked up a pound or two here or there to try, only to find out they don't give me what I'm looking for in accuracy first, velocity second.
    Also, have some that I've used in both rifles and handguns over the past twenty years, only to find out that I can get better results from one of the Fab Five. Good thing it lasts indefinitely with proper storage.

    Give me some Varget, H4350, and H4831 SC and I am pretty much good to go. I am testing Sta-Ball for temp stability b/c the huge variances in Texas Temps make temp stability a must.

    7828ssc is the sweetsauce for 6.8western, at least for my 2 rifles. it's also terrific in my 300 WSM with damn near any bullet, 270 win with 150gr bullets, and my 6 creed with 105/108gr BTHP's (no load data for it anywhere you have to work it up yourself). probably my favorite powder.

    I’m honestly a big fan of temp stability. Where I live, I could be hunting in weather as hot as mid 90s and as cold as sub zero. So for me, H4350 and H4831 are where it’s at.

    Not much to disagree with here.
    I've killed more game with Retumbo than all others combined, but it's pretty useless if you can't get it.
    I would love to try reloader 26 as well but it is what it is.
    Id like to put Vit 570 on the short list also, but same deal with that.
    Until/unless those powders become available, I'm putting my hopes on Staball HD, but if that don't work I guess I'll have to struggle along with Ramshot LRT and US 869, for my hot rod weatherby's, and deal with significant temp instability.

    • @derekmcmurry
      @derekmcmurry ปีที่แล้ว

      Superformance has impressed me so much in my 270s and 280s, I honestly have no need for H4831SC, H4350, Re22, Re19 anymore. Velocity is higher by a substantial margin (270/130 gr bullets, and 280/140 gr bullets) and accuracy from 1/4 to 1/2 MOA

      @@ReloadingWeatherby makes sense. I am rebarreling my 30-06 with a Brux barrel. Not sure when it will be done. I was originally converting that 700 action to a 280AI but changed my mind. I'm over 3300 fps in the 270 and 280 with exceptional accuracy. That said, I did not try SUPERFORMANCE with heavier bullets. Once I saw the results I was getting I didn't see a need. You left out RE-25. It's a velo champ. As far as temp stability, it pretty much stinks.

  • @ronlowney4700
    @ronlowney4700 ปีที่แล้ว

    🤔 I wanted to clarify something for your safety! Everyone knows the Reloader 26 is the "Magic Powder" when it comes to velocity! And though my experience is "Very Limited" with it specifically, I do have my past experience with some "Big Magnums" and "Pushing the Envelope" with Velocity! Because published data on it is "Very Limited", if you are using it in the 270 Winchester, the jumps in pressure (and performance) comes very suddenly, so be careful! 😱

    • @ronlowney4700
      @ronlowney4700 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤷‍♂️ Now, Why am even I telling you this? As I mentioned before, this powder is a "little tricky"! And : 1.) Because, just like me, you own both a 270 Winchester and a Bigger 30 Caliber Magnum! Thus, it is easier to become somewhat less cautious, when reloading the smaller cartridges, because we don't often think of them as quite as dangerous to exceed maximum pressure and blow ourselves up! 2.) This specific powder is much more sensitive to temperature changes than the powders that you have listed as your favorites and, at least here, we are having a much cooler than normal summer temperatures to work up a load! But, the hot weather is just around the corner! 3.) Because you have been Reloading for other people the last few years, you now have just enough knowledge to be "Dangerous" (it is easy to become overconfident or complacent with smaller cartridges)! 4.) Because, when this power gets close to filling the case, pressure spikes do occur! And, since you have more freebore than many other rifles, you may be Tempted to load the bullet farther out and really fill up that case, to push the limits on what velocity you can get with this powder! Don't! 5.) Because their is limited Reloading data on this powder, it is somewhat of a "guessing game"! 6.) Because, with the primer shortage and you often being forced to use whatever primers you can get, the pressure conditions will change fast enough with this powder to cause issues! 6.) Just remember, Safety First, which is a little harder to do when powders (like Reloader 26) and components (primers) are in short supply and you want to conserve them! Resist the Temptation to move up the powder charge weights too fast with this powder (in not small enough increments) or jumping too far up to the maximum charge weights with this powder (i.e. close to a full case of powder)! That is just something that you can't afford to do with this powder, because it is so much less forgiving than say H4831 (which seems to be your most used powder, by far, too)! 💥 7.) In no way am I trying to be disrespectful - quite the opposite - it is just possible that you may actually find this powder on the shelf now and I am just reminding you of things that you may already know - JUST BE CAREFUL! 🤕
