Which Paradigm Dalek became the Stone Dalek?

  • The Stone Dalek is a striking Paradigm Dalek survivor who plays the role of primary antagonist to the Doctor, Amy, Auton Rory and River in the Series 5 finale 'The Big Bang'. But which of the Paradigm Daleks that were present at the Underhenge became this persistent mineral-rich marauder? We aim to find out...

It was the eternal dalek, its voice matches up with the "Doctor who live" eternal voice when it says "time parameters calculated and locked a new future begins now"

Technically there are 3 Stone Daleks. In the scene during The Big Bang where the Eleventh Doctor is rescued from the Pandorica by Rory, in certain shots you can see the destroyed remains of a Stone Dalek as well as the two "full" Stone Daleks. The destroyed Stone Dalek is just a stone version of the lower base unit (so nothing above the sense globe section basically), so it’s a bit easy to miss.

The paradigm daleks have to return! I absolutely love their designs even though I didn’t like them at first. They truly grew on me and I want to see a whole army of them controlling a planet.
If I were to write how the Eternal Dalek would behave, I would have it only speak to the supreme dalek. Always being right by its side like an adviser, being mostly silent until it has something to report.
I like the concept that it’s only job was to ensure the survival of the daleks. We need the paradigm to return. We need a three part finally featuring them.

thing is about that voice in the pandorica opens the supreme doesn't have the same tone as in victory, in victory of the daleks the supreme dalek has a very deep, booming growl of a voice but when he speaks in the pandorica opens, the voice is slightly more high pitched like a regular drone, so it could be the Dalek supreme who became the stone dalek.

Late to comment on this but i do think the stone dalek was Eternal based on the way it pleaded with River for Mercy. As Eternals role was to ensure the Daleks survival, it also went on the basis of the dalek urge to kill. So it followed the Ponds and the Doctor, knowing that they couldnt kill it or rather wouldnt via moral code. So it could afford to do so without much risk, even in its weakened state.
However, it failed to identity River. When it did, its role of "protect the dalek race" kicked in and made it beg for mercy as it realised it was well and truly buggered.

Very interesting. I always assumed it was the Supreme as it is the most important and I thought I could see the white colour being restored, but on seeing it closer, that was just the 'sun' light on the stone effect. I'd like to think it was the Eternal.
I like the idea of the Pandorica bringing a Dalek back to life, because that is what it does. However, it does feel a bit like Moffat wrote a Dalek into the finale for the sake of it.

I think that it's the Drone. In the clip where the Doctor comes out of the Pandorica and see's the two stone Daleks near Rory, it's the positioning of where the Daleks are. So it's the Drone and Supreme there. And Eternal has escape using probably Emergancy Temporal Shift so should hopfully see him in the future with more backstory on his role. On the Drone stone Dalek there is a broken left speaker light and looked at it compared to it been at Stonehendge and the Musemum. But that's just my wild guess.

I would be interested to learn more about the props they used for doctor who live since you told me that they used different type of props for the strategist and scientist since they were turned to stone daleks. And maybe How this fits in the dalek timelines whether it is before or after the pandorica opens and the big bang since the eternal is present. But that's if you want to explore that. It's just something I'm curious about.

    • @dalekbumps

The Doctor Who live shows use separate props to the TV series, and there were two sets of Paradigm props used in the show - the first batch of 5 made for Victory of the Daleks, and a new batch made for Asylum of the Daleks to replace the previous set. There are subtle differences between these two sets of props, particularly the rear section which is less hunched on the newer batch. Sadly very few Paradigm Dalek props still exist, there was recently an auction where the BBC sold off the last of their Paradigm props and it amounted to a ragtag collection of battered props with lots of pieces missing

I like the idea that the eternal dalek escaped the big bang, the only way I can think of it doing so is by travelling to another universe, similar to the cult of skaro. Actually, I quite like the idea that the eternal dalek's role is the same as the cult of skaro in general just contained to a singular dalek unit. Being able to "imagine" new ways of survival in emergencies, which would explain the name of eternal
