Conservation Conversations: Cape Town Birding Big Year - Mike Buckham and Cliff Dorse (20Feb24)

BirdLife South Africa is a firm believer that conservation needs to start with conversation.
On Tuesday night, 20 February 2024, at 19:00 (SAST) BirdLife South Africa's biweekly webinar series ‘Conservation Conversations with BirdLife South Africa’ hosted Mike Buckham and Cliff Dorse, who spoke on the events that transpired when the Cape Bird Club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023. The duo decided to run a Birding Big Year within the boundaries of the City of Cape Town to encourage birding in the city as well as to assist the city in gathering data on bird distribution to support the expansion of conservation areas in the city. The challenge created a lot of enthusiasm within the birding community, resulting in many birders enjoying the city's birds during 2023.
They also shared some of the ideas behind the challenge, as well as photos, statistics, and fun moments from the year.
