For people who are curious about what we saw in the beginning. As Jirard was talking, Davis noticed something in the window behind the shades. Then we all noticed it. It looking like a swinging body. SGS, being the cowards that we are all freaked out rather than look. Finally Alex opened the blinds and nothing was there. .... OR WAS THERE?!
LexiconWrites Captain Obvious? I didn't know you were on youtube... (I realize that joke sailed over everyone's head as kids.... it did mine as well at first)
I can hear Jesse and Davis easily but Jirard and Alex might as well be one person for me. I think Alex talks a little faster, so that's usually how I decide it's one or the other saying something.
At the start, who else was looking around the game trying to find the swinging thing in the window? I had no idea WTF they were talking about for ages >.
same here, then after about 25 min I felt like a dummie when I found out it was IRL. :P I just figured I couldn't see it because of the frame rate or something.
+Jester Eric Thank. You. So. Much. I was racking my brain when they first uploaded this. I replayed the beginning about 30 times. Just staring at the screen, wondering if I was blind or crazy.
The Warp Zone Apparently it really set the mood for you guys on this. OOC, do the other three kinda hunker down around you, like they're about to pin you in the chair when things get intense? Kind of like a group of nuts about to force someone to watch the 'Ring' movie?
42:50 If Davis came up with that line, it definitely up there on the list of lines I want on a t-shirt. "I am frightened beyond capacity of rational thought. *SCARY GAME SQUAD*" xD
Paraphrased from Egon in "Ghostbusters". Full line is: "Sorry Venkman. I'm terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought." Coincidentally, his line just a few minutes later, as he goes through the door, is similar to Bill Murray's about the plan to cross the streams.
It's early - so I'll try to edit in jump scares because heroes have done it for me. Remember my suffering! Spoopy sound at 26:30 - the painting fell. 26:45 the piano closes itself. 31:50 Creepy music starts, I put this here because I know people who legit freak out over old timey music like this in games. 33:25 Spoopy bottles drop. 43:39 Window closes suddenly 50:38 Trippy paintings
I fail to comprehend why people need warnings for jumpscares that only a real Davis™ would actually be scared of... maybe everyone here really is Davis
I mean, I understand why people post these times, but I also know that some people completely skip the video just to watch these "jump scares" and miss a ton of great content. :(
I am very quick to scare and I don't appreciate the feeling of getting scared, yet I'm typically interested in plots and themes of horror games, or the personalities of the people who play them, so I can appreciate forewarning while watching.
Ghovie Mumar Like any good quote, it can be butchered or said incorrectly and have nearly the same effect as being spoken verbatim. However, I thank you for pointing out this error to me, and I've edited my comment according to yours.
I'm really glad that SGS is a thing, because I hate playing horror games and being scared, but I love watching other people play horror games and be scared.
I am absolutely loving how slow and methodical SGS is going through this. This game has so much that I had no idea about because other people I have seen play this don't look around as much as these guys do. It did take me a little time to really get into the video because I was waiting impatiently for the scares that I know of to pop up but they just go so slow so it seems a little boring or whatever but after getting into it, I fucken love it so much.
I KNOW it fucken sucks. It hurts even more because I know they're actually looking for the secrets and stuff but just aren't finding them which is super frustrating. The whole basement scene after falling through the floor I was like Davis where are you going, what the fuck are you doing Davis and nobody stopped him to look around in the basement. I can let it go though because it's only bonus things and scares, but the in-completion factor is going to bug the hell outta Jirard.
Hah~hah~hah It sure is, it sure is. But no helping it. He's anxious and jumpy already. On top of a short attention spawn. ~sees note on desk~ neat ~checks the closet~ empty ~looks in drawer~ ... notes that I cant pick up. ~Checks the table~ nothing ~Looks around the room~ nada ~checks the other closet~ nitch An fuck it, moving on. Next room. hah~hah~hah It's like playing a game of 99 closets on the wall. Open one up, Look it trough and nothing in it at all. 98 Closets on the wall. Open it up, look it trough and ~ Without an item guide it seems like a waste of time to even think of an attempt to look. As demonstrated by the scary game squad. But ey, makes for nice suspense.
Nice correlation man, I totally get the 99 closets feeling from this. Great game, but it could use a little more work with how often the player finds things. Defiantly a story-focus game with some pretty graphics. I believe the game designer was going for an Amnesia dark decent feel. I think I heard that somewhere.
As the trial began, the police bring him into the courtroom. Dan, his victims were rumoured to be in the thousands. Always cruelly butchered until they were barely recognizable and not a single trace left behind. The cases had been a cold case for decades until finally one day Dan had made a mistake. An old security camera had caught it all, from the luring of the pretty young lady to the brutal stabbing. From ripping her guts out with his bare hands and his creepy laugh like a child playing with his dinner. The FBI shivered when they had first found the footage and he was found and arrested soon after. Now, as the trial which really was a formality since there was no way he could escape punishment, proceeded. Dan was chained to the wall because he had immense strength. While answering all the questions asked of him he answered them like a young boy and a smirky, knowing smile. Suddenly, the lights turn out. A scream fills the air. The panicked people all run to the doors. "It's locked!" someone shrieks. The lights turn back on and Dan is gone. In his place, chained to the wall were pieces of someone's body. A member of the Jury, dead and split into pieces in a number of minutes. Everyone screams and tries to escape. In the panic the lights turn out again and Dan's booming laughter echoes through the room.... Soon after the courtroom's doors opened and people found inside a pile of body parts. Written in blood on the floor "Today was fun! I will come play again!"
MidnightRose77 Nice story! :) It'll make a great game. It'll be like you're the detective and stuff trying to find this killer in the courthouse. HAHAHAHAHAHA! So you start gathering clues. But then you realised, maybe you shouldn't be finding him... You should be escaping instead. Because... He already found you.
Gruntsisterz Yea and to escape it's an insane puzzle game with the clues that also unravel his back story. But the whole time it's timed and you'll gt murdered if you don't figure everything out and escape in time.
Guys, I have to say, thank you for the frequent recent uploads of SGS! I love it and the effort is greatly appreciated. You all do an amazing job here.
Yep. I believe it was the last episode of their Until Dawn playthrough, they hinted that Layers of Fear would be their next playthrough ("you could say our next game has layers" or something to that regard). But they ended up playing SOMA next instead (because their inboxes got bombarded with requests to play it), and then they never did play Layers when it released. Nice to see them finally play it, especially after the rather poor (imo) FNAF.
Jesse, I really can't thank you enough for all of this Scary Game Squad. It's easily my favorite series you've ever done (other than skyrim of course) and I really hope these come out more often after Halloween. Really though, thank you so much, you're the only TH-camr I still trust to always put out content because you enjoy it.
The wife;s name is Kate, the she will be shot by the husband name Jarreff whispering "204863". The house will be hounted, and finally we will have to use camera to shot them.
Jesse: "This is one of those lookie-loo games." Me: *sigh* 1 year later... *Still looking behind this cupboard [Part 72] | Layers of Fear | Scary Game Squad*
I never know whether SGS is pre-recorded, but a quick warning just in case it isn't. Eventually you'll reach a door marked "Restless Memories". Don't open it too slowly or it'll bug the game - speaking from experience
It's pre-recorded. Jesse tweeted a few nights ago that they were finishing FNAF and starting on Layers of Fear on the same night. Then last night they got back together to record more of Layers. They probably finished the whole game between the 2 nights.
You KNOW it's going to be a great series when merely 50 seconds into the first episode the fellas have already descended into the delirious depths know simply as The Giggle Fit. 🖤
Did anyone else notice at 38:55 that the painting of the "tax reminder baby" wasn't on the stairwell wall anymore? Meaning that it moved to the office. That was my first "Oh shit." moment of the game.
This might be one of the best LPs of this game in existence. Most LPers run through the game at a faster pace and experience the distortions at a rapid, disconcerting rate, but the boys end the first episode barely coming onto the painting. Such a comprehensive breakdown and of course tons of charm and laughs. Seriously well done guys! I am glad I follow you :)
The "Remembrandt" bit had me in stitches. xD Nice to see what looks like an atmospheric experience :) And kudos to Davis for playing this, it really adds to the fear factor so his sacrifice is greatly appreciated ^^
A part of me was internally screaming that they didn't go and open the painting room first, they missed so much in-game dialogue from that. Hhhhhh...But well at least they know where everything is now. And maybe they are willing to go and pick up everything again to just hear what they have to say.
Great video guys! I have to be honest, I wasn't too crazy about the 5.N.A.F. videos earlier, those games don't do anything for me but this is fun to watch you guys play through. Keep up the great videos guys, I love them!
i need to be drunk to truly appreciate you guys just stammering in the same spot for 40 minutes. In all seriousness i love this game and I'm glad you guys are finally playing it.
Now THIS is gonna be a great playthrough! I've watched several people play this game and already SGS has pieced together so much more of the story than I've ever seen. I'm hyped! Also about the Scooby Gang thing, Jirard is Fred obviously, and I think Alex is Velma, Jesse is Daphne, and Davis is Scooby.
the two ladies beheading the dude is actually one of my favorite paintings, it depicts the beheading of Holofernes by Judith, she is a widow who cuts off the head of the general that wanted to destroy her city. Holofernes was also a drunk and way into Judith so I feel like the game wants to give you some symbolysm help I know I‘m literally years late to this video, but it was very funny to watch and I really do love this painting of Judith
"Death 4... Death 4.. BEAR!!!" I love how they didn't even see the "U" sitting next to the "Death 4" part. Meaning "Death 4 U" :P Can't wait to see the rest of this game.
Oh. Dang. Yes! I've waited so for you wonderfully scaredy lot to pick that one up! Hope to see you stick through with it and have yourself a spooky hoot -- it's a good 'un!
6 minutes into the video and all I hear is Jirard saying "You won't believe your eyes..." and I follow along with "SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED, WHEN YOU FIND OUT YOU ARE IN THE BOOK!!!!" This is going to be a good one I am ready bros.
This is going to be good. Layers of Fear, while a bit flawed in my opinion, is the perfect game for the Squad. It's nice and creepy, has a slowly unfolding story, and some legitimately spooky moments. Plus, Davis at the helm of the ship only adds to the goodness of it.
I literally finished watching the bonus ep to Until Dawn and Jesse says "our next series has layers to it, and you should be feared to it" I go back to his channel and this is here.....time travel? XD
You can turn off the controller's speaker in the PS4 options. Turning off the controller speaker will default all speaker audio to the main game audio.
44:05 I was only listening and it sounded like he made that shit up on the spot xD i started being impressed and thought: damn this is some good making up shit on the spot.
"Some call him the new Caravaggio, others compare him to van Eyek" Come on guys, that was just BEGGING for someone to chime in "all we know is, he's called the Stig."
Alright, i saw Cryaotic do this game. AMAZING! God these guys are gonna be freaked out by the atmosphere, scenery and as well the spooks which in my opinion are great! Even the story was well done! Definitely one of my top 10 games. Hope you guys enjoy this one as much as i did!
Jesse Cox lol good to know! I was scanning the screen trying to see the shadow!
Jesse Cox I was looking for a thing in the menu screens window lol
Oh it was IRL! Okay I thought my screen was frozen
when do you guys realize the dude you play as has a limp. Remember they said they got the length wrong?
Wendigos?
remember that time when Scrappy-Doo tried to use human souls to turn into a demon and take over the world
And the Ghostface killer stopped him?
I 'member...
Yeah and Shaggy found a fellow hippy that liked to eat Scooby Snacks too.
Also, her name was "Mary Jane" which was his "Favorite Name"

But Alex has betrayed the Beards
+Haroldini Milo
DAMN SHADOWS, YOU SCARY!
Haroldini Milo was there a joke in that bubble of obviousness?
Abyssal Syndicate nah just an observation if you didn't understand what was happening
I also just love how in about every Scary Game Squad series, someone has to day "Daddy was a real drag." Makes me laugh every time I hear it.
I'm ashamed to admit that I've watched almost all of their SGS stuff and I still struggle to tell Davis, Jirard, and Alex's voices apart.
I can't say I've ever had a problem with that.
Mike Like I've watched all of SGS and I can't tell the differences either. Usually have to judge who is who by their volume.
After watching lots of the completionist, I've gotten ever so slightly better at it. Telling Jirard and Alex apart was the hard part for me.
I can hear Jesse and Davis easily but Jirard and Alex might as well be one person for me. I think Alex talks a little faster, so that's usually how I decide it's one or the other saying something.
I'm so glad I'm not alone in this XD
At the start, who else was looking around the game trying to find the swinging thing in the window?
I had no idea WTF they were talking about for ages >.
Holmesy87 I replayed that part 3 times before giving up
same here, then after about 25 min I felt like a dummie when I found out it was IRL. :P I just figured I couldn't see it because of the frame rate or something.
+Jester Eric Thank. You. So. Much. I was racking my brain when they first uploaded this. I replayed the beginning about 30 times. Just staring at the screen, wondering if I was blind or crazy.
Holmesy87 yup I did that to
I thought my video was bugged out
Guys if you could have only seen the shadow at the beginning! Scariest shadow of my life!!!

"I am frightened beyond capacity for rational thought." Davis of the Warp Zone, 2016.
This needs to be on a t-shirt.
I'm sure it is already, because it's from the original Ghostbusters...
Out from the Left i think it was "for rational thoughts"

Alex is Daphney
Jesse is Shaggy
David is Scooby
None of them are sober enough to be Velma.
I think you nailed it.
NERO and MUFFIN *Davis
Rick .W *Derik
So, Jesse is shagging Davis?
Idk, Alex is very Shaggy-esque
Only a minute in and we all bark laughing.
I'm feeling good about this
Three minutes in and they are all amazingly stupid. I fucking love the Scary Game Squad
Mu Draconis k
...totally misread that as "Lawyers of Fear", was totally interested in seeing how a courthouse setting could possibly make for a scary game.
BaronVonHoovy Lawyers are pretty scary themselves.

For those interested, the dog collar reads "POPIEL", who was a slavic ruler who was reportedly eaten alive by rats.
Guys, I have to say, thank you for the frequent recent uploads of SGS! I love it and the effort is greatly appreciated. You all do an amazing job here.

You play as the leg-guy, you even wobble when you walk after you find the note that says they have gotten the wrong size.
Holy shit, I didn't notice that. That's really subtle and cool.

THIS MUST BE THE WORK OF AN ENEMY 「 WENDIGO」!!
CursedBoneSmasher
You were expecting Dio...
BUT IT WAS ME!
WENDIGO!
I still cant believe Alex called that
URRRRYYYYYYY
Its wendingo, goddamn
Davis freaking out before anything has happened yet tells me this is gonna be a beautiful playthrough
Wendigos are responsible for this.
I'm sure of it.
It's always wendigos.
never not wendigos
I actually believe that bro's shadow is responsible
omg bro's shadow, what a call back
It's wendigos all the way down...

I never know whether SGS is pre-recorded, but a quick warning just in case it isn't.
Eventually you'll reach a door marked "Restless Memories". Don't open it too slowly or it'll bug the game - speaking from experience
+OverEnglishMan from what I can tell they play the whole game all at once so it's most likely to be pre-recorded
Bugger, oh well, at least it's there for other people :). Thanks!
It's pre-recorded. Jesse tweeted a few nights ago that they were finishing FNAF and starting on Layers of Fear on the same night. Then last night they got back together to record more of Layers. They probably finished the whole game between the 2 nights.
"Ever since Mario64 I have never trusted a piano in a video game." Realist shit ever spoken.
"The only thing that gives me courage is any sense of agency." Profound, guys. Or maybe just Davis.
I love how much SGS we are getting these last fews weeks!
The protagonist might be a psychopath, but AT LEAST he has some fine taste in alcochol.
PRIORITIES.
You KNOW it's going to be a great series when merely 50 seconds into the first episode the fellas have already descended into the delirious depths know simply as The Giggle Fit. 🖤
It's only 45 seconds into this series and I'm already glad I'm rewatching it.
Ahhh, another Adventure to find those damn Wendigos, how long I've waited for this moment.
More SGS?!? What is happening... this is the best thing ever :D
Did anyone else notice at 38:55 that the painting of the "tax reminder baby" wasn't on the stairwell wall anymore? Meaning that it moved to the office. That was my first "Oh shit." moment of the game.

What a great time to be alive, with 2 SGS videos in a week
Also, it just started to rain here, talk about immersion and ambience
21:40 Oh cool, I didn't know Alex was a Redwall fan. Nice to know.
I feel like this comment is the epitome of a part of Alex’s vibe.
Thanks for keeping the spooks into November! I love scary game squad!!
Still come back and watch some of these lets plays sometimes, SGS is so smart and wise in ways of gaming and most entertaining
The "Remembrandt" bit had me in stitches. xD
Nice to see what looks like an atmospheric experience :) And kudos to Davis for playing this, it really adds to the fear factor so his sacrifice is greatly appreciated ^^
It really irked me that the whiskey in that bottle didn't move when they examined it.
A part of me was internally screaming that they didn't go and open the painting room first, they missed so much in-game dialogue from that. Hhhhhh...But well at least they know where everything is now. And maybe they are willing to go and pick up everything again to just hear what they have to say.
if the game is good maybe they'll do a 'we missed this last time' segment
Moomsss Oh geezus I hope so, I don't mind I've seen the whole game just enjoy what they may talk about with it.
SGS back at it again!
Great video guys! I have to be honest, I wasn't too crazy about the 5.N.A.F. videos earlier, those games don't do anything for me but this is fun to watch you guys play through. Keep up the great videos guys, I love them!
One minute and 30 seconds in and I already have to pause the video because I'm laughing too much. Bravo, SGS, bravo
hands up for team "got super confused in that beginning bit when they started freaking out over the window monster"
i need to be drunk to truly appreciate you guys just stammering in the same spot for 40 minutes. In all seriousness i love this game and I'm glad you guys are finally playing it.

Overthinking child's drawings like professional overthinkers, good job :3
Love this game, stoked they decided to play it. Gonna be rewatching this series a bunch methinks.
"Death 4... Death 4.. BEAR!!!" I love how they didn't even see the "U" sitting next to the "Death 4" part. Meaning "Death 4 U" :P Can't wait to see the rest of this game.
I am so excited about this series! Can't wait for the next episode. Poor Jirard gonna be so scared.
I hope they will play the DLC after they are done with the main game because its great and tells you more of the story and the characters.
I now know what it feels like to be on edge for an entire video on a horror game -_-
I am not prepared for the next one...
I love all of you, Scare Game Squad. Please continue being as awesome as you are right now
game hasn't even started and already amazing.
I'm very excited to watch this! gonna have to bust out the snacks and get my blankie!!!
Oh. Dang. Yes! I've waited so for you wonderfully scaredy lot to pick that one up! Hope to see you stick through with it and have yourself a spooky hoot -- it's a good 'un!
I was really hoping they would play this! This should be very entertaining!
Literally started watching and I have been laughing so hard that I don't think I will be scared through the series
I love how they're theorizing whether or not you're the person with the prosthetic leg when he is clearly limping, and none of them seem to notice.

WTB behind the scenes to these scary game squad videos... Love this series ! Smiley face
soo, who else heard about scooby dum then instantly wiki'd it only to get lost researching scooby's family history for half an hour
I love how most of this episode is just them exploring the house with occasional scary music
Ooh boy, this is gonna be good!
Haha, I literally just said that as I clicked on the link. 'Oh man, this should be good.'
This is a very cool little appetizer to Resident Evil 7, hugely looking forward to you guys playing it (*IMMENSELY,* even!)
This is going to be good. Layers of Fear, while a bit flawed in my opinion, is the perfect game for the Squad. It's nice and creepy, has a slowly unfolding story, and some legitimately spooky moments. Plus, Davis at the helm of the ship only adds to the goodness of it.
I'm so pumped for this playthrough. I hope they finish it.
I want a documentary on how Davis is able to survive while being so absolutely scared of everything.
loved the redwall drop. so many people have not heard of that book series.
God, I love scary game squad sooo much. You guys are so much fun to watch and listen to. =D
Finally, a game that doesn't have empty drawers
I wish Scary Game Squad was year-round :c
The Alex is Scrappy Doo joke had me laughing my ass off xD
SO sad that they didn't realize that the Monkey Boy Painting had actually moved from the wall and wasn't just a duplicate T-T
Yes! I waited so long for you to play this. Thank you very much!
i love the redwall books oooh my gosh
I literally finished watching the bonus ep to Until Dawn and Jesse says "our next series has layers to it, and you should be feared to it" I go back to his channel and this is here.....time travel? XD
I love how supportive they are of davis. Great friends
I am so startled, for there being almost no scares I was really super scared!
You can turn off the controller's speaker in the PS4 options.
Turning off the controller speaker will default all speaker audio to the main game audio.
44:05 I was only listening and it sounded like he made that shit up on the spot xD i started being impressed and thought: damn this is some good making up shit on the spot.
I dont drink but ill smoke to the empty drawers in all the games XD
Did he just really do that?
- Shout out to this music.
*Music stops*
YEYYYYYYYYYY!!! Waited for this for sooooo long!!! So hyped.
"Some call him the new Caravaggio, others compare him to van Eyek"
Come on guys, that was just BEGGING for someone to chime in "all we know is, he's called the Stig."
I'm already dead at "I'm SCRAPPY DOO? that's the WORST possible character I could be" lol alex
LOL at them freaking out for 45 mins exploring the beginning part of the game, which is basically before the game even starts
I'm so friggin stoked for more SGS!!!
I'm glad to see something that isn't FNAF
So much SGS in such a short time. I love it.
Jessesus Coxus sounds like an ancient roman centurion, ready to shout out his orders from atop his armour-clad, shimmering, white steed.
Yeeeeeeeees this series completes my soul with a fiery passion!
