  • Hitting the Zion-Mount Carmel tunnel with your RV... Watch before you go. Having a tow strap is always a must.
    Right before heading to Zion National Park we learned that our RV might not fit through the Zion-Mount Carmel tunnel. We talk with Zion park rangers and learn the process for taking an RV through the tunnel.
    We ran into an issue that required having a tow strap and found some amazing views while boondocking.

    Ditch the tow strap and head down to Hurricane, Utah, and pick up a Matt's Offroad Recovery Yankum Rope. It's a lot more versatile and tougher. Tow straps are prone to breaking if they are yanked too hard. Check out Matt's Offroad Recovery TH-cam Channel for proof. If you get stuck in the mud, sand, or snow in Southern Utah, Matt's your man.

      That is actually something I've started looking into. We bought a new overland vehicle and are planning on spending more time this summer back in the mountains and I do agree one of those would be better. I'll look into Matt's!

    And the lesson of this story is that it’s good to know the limitations of where you want to go before you buy your RV.

    Yes we plan to go to Zion! What restrictions? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♂️. Oh we’re watching this! 🙄😬. Thanks for the information we didn’t know. This is to get through the tunnel. New friend here. Came over from InStaGram! Thanks for sharing.

      Hello! Yes make sure you know your measurements so you dont drive all the way there then have to turn around and drive all the way around to the other entrance.

    I have watced videos and heared about the required permit but you are only one that tells you how to get it and how simple it is I don't like being unprepared. Thank you.

      Hi David, thanks for watching. We found the same thing when researching so we figured we would show everything. It is a simple process and we hate being unprepared also!

      It’s in your manual. I wrote all the dimensions down on a sticky note that I keep on my visor. I’m always ready because in Colorado there are some small bridges.

    I saw your mention of a tow strap. Check out Matt's Off Road Recovery on TH-cam. He is a real believer in Yankum Rope tow straps and his videos show why they are so good. Probably more expensive than the one you showed in the video, but well worth it in my opinion. BTW, nice video. I never knew about the tunnel.

    My wife and I went on vacation in that area 6 years ago in mid may and almost got stuck driving into the Brian Head rec area, encountered 2" of snow and was getting deeper by the minute. Yes you do need to pay attention to the weather in the high altitude parts of Utah. Great heads up on RVing through those tunnels, seems they were working on them in 2015, did they not enlarge the sizes of the tunnels?

    • @live.travel.family7069
      @live.travel.family7069  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure of any the tunnel is now bigger or not but they still have the restriction.

    Did you buy the stamp book at Bruce or have u had that for a while? Where do you find the stMps in the park?

    • @live.travel.family7069
      @live.travel.family7069  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks for watching! Our stamp book was actually a birthday gift right before we left for our travels and it became so much fun to get as many stamps as we could. All of the stamps that we found were in the visitor center and you can just ask someone where they are inside there. It was also a great place to ask a park ranger for any "off the beaten path" places that they might recommend rather than just the normal hike. They love to give you hidden gems which are amazing.

    Just so you know propane is a hazardous material, class 2 Un 1075, & if it catches fire it will close the tunnel down. The people who operate the tunnel wouldn't like that not to mention all the people who wouldn't be able to get through, now you know & knowing is half the battle.

    At exactly 7'10" our cargo trailer/camper didn't require a permit, but with the oncoming traffic and the very narrow lanes, leaving only inches to spare, we'll get the permit next time!

    • @live.travel.family7069
      @live.travel.family7069  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperSushidog Ok, so Zine. And this is a localism? Or is that how they actually pronounce it in the Bible? I’m pretty much Bible challenged.
      We sometimes go from the Bay Area out 80 and stop for the night to camp in a place called Verdi. It’s on the state line before dropping down into Reno. And anyone who knows opera - or Italian in general - knows how that’s pronounced, but the locals pronounce it “Vur-dye”, and when coming up into the Sierra foothills, around Colfax, you pass a small town called Weimar. If you know anything about Germany or post-World War I history or about Bach or Goethe, you know that it’s pronounced “Vye-mar”, except the locals pronounce it “Wee-mer’. And I just visited a friend in Colorado a couple of years ago and found out that Estes Park is pronounced “Estus”.
      So thanks for the tip. I’m always happy not to sound too much like a tourist!

  • @theboondockbungalow1816

    That width restriction is a joke. It's just a way to screw people out of $15. If my 8 foot wide trailer will fit with a permit, it sure as hell will fit without one. Stick it to the tourist.
