  • Alex Niyonzima, a survivor of the November 2018 MV Templar Boat accident, has written a book giving an insight into the tragedy from an eyewitness perspective. According to Niyonzima, in the heat of initial reporting on the boat accident, many details were overlooked, exaggerations and many issues were left unclassified.

Just finished reading this . My high points - the story and Niyonzima's personal inclusions were fascinating , insightful and gripping . I didn't feel as much tension before the boat capsizes but the "party scene" that climaxes into the big meeting at KK Beach, the sad escape and fight to survive thoroughly gripped me - Mutima Beach sounds like a place I would like to visit some day to pay my respects to all the heroes of this tragedy.
My low points- As a literature student I was sadly un impressed by the leisurely use of sentences . The writing is mostly " very Ugandan" - something that makes a great story in a pub but not the kind of exciting language that leaves you feeling enriched after reading a book. I want my kids to read this book but Iam currently hesitant specifically my 10 yr old who is already struggling with her construction of prose- This book doesn't do the literary mind justice IMO BUT definitely satisfies curiosity and answers the big question - " What exactly happened"
I recommend Niyonzima finds a great editor ( welcome to DM me ) , before putting this book on Amazon - if well edited this story covers some universal issues on tragedy uniting people , the downside of letting friends decide how and when you have a great time , hob nobbing , trusting one's sixth sense / listening to the holyspirit , swimming as a basic life skill , health and safety rules that should never be broken among many other things that I learned .
Overall- it was worth spending time and money on. You will be enriched by this story- Diane
