- Jacob Wheeler is one of the hottest anglers in professional bass fishing right now and he's spent a lot of time honing his skills with a deep-diving crankbait like a Rapala DT-20. But he's also learned a tremendous amount of useful tips he shares in this video about angles, reading the fish, triggering reactions from bigger fish even when it looks everyone else is finesse fishing.
He's leading the FLW Pro Circuit event on his home waters of Lake Chickamauga going into the final day and he's already won an offshore tournament on the MLF Bass Pro Tour earlier in the 2020 season. Awesome video with good info! The bass on my home lake have definitely moved out to the main lake points and deep cranks have been a fun way to catch them. Just posted a video of my last trip out

Garmin= panoptics. Hummingbird= mega imaging. Lowrance= mapping. That way he has the best of everything

Jacob Wheeler has maybe the best quality of all fisherman…. He finds his fish at the perfect times. 5 min before the cut and then bam 3 and 4 pounders back to back and then goes and wins the tourney.
The guy is an absolute phenom! We have a new video with him dropping at 4pm today -- definitely worth checking back in for.

Hey J-Wheel, WZUUUUUUUUUP, hey man did you change anything on your DT-20, like split rings, or hooks, cause I just ordered the DT-20 in Green Gizzard for Eufaula, and I am going to change the hooks, but I'm wondering about the split rings
What pound test do you always use when you deep cranking and shallow cranking
12 for deep crankin, and for shallow crankin 12 or 15 whichever works for you.
The color green gizzard is no in the color selection could you please clarify what color he is using
He is using Green Gizzard. Look for it in the future. It's not yet on the market. Rapala does a good job of updating colors and we hear there are a few new patterns coming out next year. Also check out Ike's custom colors for more options!

What year ratio do you recommend for your deep crankin?
Wheeler likes to run the 6.3:1 he might speed it up if necessary. He likes to burn those DT's through the schools of bass.

Did you do that ? Or is it from using that crankbait so much that’s it’s not running true anymore?
Sorry for all the questions but I know fisherman have secrets and they don’t always tell the entire story. It’s not as simple as buying that bait from the store and fishing it anywhere.
Also how deep does that bait get down ? And fluorocarbon line you are using is it 15 pound line? 12 or 10 pound line.

Stick on lead weight. Helps bait get down quicker also keeps the bait running more nose down which reduces snags which in turns let's you fish it through more dense cover and put more fish in the boat

The little silver circle you are looking at on the bill of the lure is a stainless steel disk that help the lure reach its maximum running depth faster. That bait will tick bottom at about 22 feet with 10lbs on a bomb cast. Same cast and line in 15 feet of water however and you will be "Over Cranking" and that will produce radical deflections off rock and other cover. This is what you are seeing in this vid. The crank is in deed running true, this is how it acts in shallower water. All great questions!!! Thank you!
