      Another thing, before he only put one type of language as subtitle, people start to interpret his song in a different meaning (due to racism), since then there is always 3 different language so people don't misinterpret his song...

    yes, the whole video is educational. it's helping foreigners who have never been to Japan before like you to at least understand that that's how the Japanese speak English (Japanglish). it's difficult, sometimes confusing yet very nice to know another languages and cultures, right? :) Japan is a must go for you guys

  • @yosepmarius
    @yosepmarius 4 ปีที่แล้ว +65

    Japan is a must-go country at least once in your entire life. This song was made to promote Tokyo Olympic this year. The creator, NAMEWEE is a Malaysian. I'm not sure if it's an individual name or a group of some sort
    .
    Basically in the Japanese language, it doesn't have a letter "L" and a collection of 2 consonants in 1 word, for example, GOLF. Any consonant must be followed with a vocal a-i-e-u-o. So to accommodate that, any "L" is replaced with an "R". And the way it is pronounced is GO-RU-FU as in GOLF.

      Namewee, is an artist name for Wee Meng Chee, is believed a Chinese Hainan dialect name but registered as official Malaysian identity card name, which is originate from his elderly given name 黄明志 (pronounced as 'huáng míng zhì' in Mandarin, and 明志 is sounding quite similar to 名字, which pronounced as 'míng zì' and have a Mandarin literally meaning of 'name' in English). So he put 'Name' in front and keep his surname/family name the same as 'wee' behind, just like most of the westerners' name structure.

    Many Malaysian recognize Japan through Japanese prominent brands such as Honda, Casio, Sony and of course Malaysias favourite cartoon character, Doraemon. Yes this video is educational when the local lady lost her temper by saying Makudonarudo. Meaning let just cut the chase, that is why she showed McDonald (sounds Makudonarudo) to him. Yet interesting that many countries use different call names for McDonalds.

  • @Dark_eVader
    @Dark_eVader 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Man I totally enjoyed the song and kept on smiling all throughout. Also very accurate in terms of how the Japanese pronounce English words where they have to add a vowel at the end of a consonant. Worth watching again for me. (Girl was cute hehe.)

  • @gracepak2380

    that Namewee a Malaysian-Chinese it's actually an official video from Cool Japan TV to teach foreigners in fun way of "Japanglish" (borrowed English-American words pronounced the Japanese way in Japanese accent or “Katakana Eigo” (Katakana English) for tourists to be able to get around Tokyo during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. For example if an American asks a Japanese on the streets of Tokyo where's McDonalds, they probably won't understand like the obasan /granny in the beginning of video unless you pronounce the Japanese way of Makudonarudo. "Japanglish" is used in Japan especially since Japanese words always end in a vowel so Japanese can't pronounce English correctly that end in a hard "D" or other hard sounding consonants.

    The fun of this song is that all the words are in english but have japanese pronunciation.
    Much Japanese words come from English, Spanish and German. If you put them in Katakana (japanese writing system for foreign words) you just get these words ^^''.

    When Namewee says I love Aoi Sora! who is a famous Japanese ex-AV (Adult Video) Star. her popularity as an adult video actress leading to celebrity status as a media personality both in Japan and abroad. Aoi traveled to Thailand for a part in a mainstream Thai teen movie, Hormones (Pid Term Yai, Hua Jai Waa Wun), in March 2008. Back in Japan, Aoi starred as a zombie-killing stripper in director Takao Nakano's May 2010 comedy horror film Big Tits Zombie. On May 2012, Aoi debuted in South Korea as a singer and actress and cast in a Korean movie, Vacance. She continued to work as an actress in Chinese sex comedy Naked Ambition 2. She also appeared in the 2014 Thai romantic comedy Ai Fai.. Thank You Love You .

      I think you misinterpreted it. Namewee isn't poking fun of Japan, Japanese or Japanese language, he's actually want to highlight the unique of those 3. He is Malaysia Chinese. We Malaysian know at least 3 languages. When we talk, we will mix languages in 1 sentence. Because of the mix, even though most Malaysia Chinese as a native Mandarin speaker, when they go to other country that is also speaking Mandarin like Taiwanese and Chinese(China), they may confused what are we talking about and if we know they don't understand us, we actually have the ability to talk with the way that they usually speak(change the use of Mandarin/Chinese to their kind of Mandarin so they understand). At the end of the MV, he also try to point out that foreigner also struggling to learn Japanese language. Conclusion, no bad intention, he just want to highlight the unique of Japan.

    You probably already know this, but it's a song about Janglish (Japanized English). All of those words are adapted English words. It's the way they pronounce and use some of our English words. It's hilarious because this Malaysian guy is saying he is a foreigner and they are teaching him all of the "Janglish" words. At the end it's funny because he uses an actual Japanese word (Baka- idiot). :)

    In Japan there is this term "gairago" that means "foreign words". They use a lot of words from english, german, spanish, portuguese, dutch, and some other countries, but they use them a lot of times wrong and they pronounce them in their own way, like the title of the song: McDonald's = MakuDonarudo
    In the video you can see a lot of japanglish words, they supposed to be english but they're so butchered up that not even a native english speaker can understand them.
    This is pretty much what's gonna happen with the 2020 olympics... foreigners that can't speak japanese trying to talk with japanese that can't speak english.
