    I'm about to turn 70 and have been playing since 1967 mostly electric but when my daughter commandeered my only acoustic guitar a 1978 Ibanez AW-50 I lost interest as I live in a high-rise and neighbours don't like Marshall amps shaking their walls. Then I saw your Epiphone inspired by Gibson video and went straight out and purchased an Epiphone Hummingbird got it set up by my favourite tech Leo and I was in Heaven. Then I went mad again and purchased a Sigma GJA-SG200 Grand Jumbo Acoustic and have been playing my callouses down to my fingertips. You've been such an inspiration JP my electrics are packed away gathering dust while my acoustics are hangin' on the wall waiting to be played every day.

    Happy New Year JP from Headland, Alabama! I sure wish you'd come back to Bama and spend a winter! You and I could be pickin' on the porch in T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops! I learned something new today too. Jim Hurst was a Truck Driver? So is this Jim! I take my B-Bender Telecaster with me Coast to Coast! In fact I was in Nashville just last night, hanging out at the Music City Bar and Grill and my good friends "The Music City Playboys"!!! Roll on 18 Wheeler!

    I had no idea you played with the Sullivan Family! I used to travel with them occasionally back in the 70's. I had great affection for Enoch Sullivan and all of them. Enoch was very gracious with me. I was just getting into bluegrass at the time, and fell in love with them. I was able to meet Bill Monroe, and many others through them. I was very surprised to hear you played with them! Now to find the videos!

    Total excellence of chomping at the bit to deliver, the leaping of the notes under your hand, the thing magic projection canon. It's an INSTRUMENT to play the living crap out of ringing like a bell. Massive sound profile, plays like a dream beast.

    Ironically what you have described was very similar to my visit with David this past June. He gave us a tour of the shop and allowed us to play the guitars on display. There was one G45s that called to me. It had a small defect, but that did not matter to me, I took it home. Lately I have been playing my Boucher Studio Goose, but I need to wake up The Gallager and give it some love again. Wishing you and Ginger a Happy New Year along with David Mathis. Ralph!

    first video sets the bar very high . . . that's cool with Jim saying he's got two and this one's for you . . . its cool knowing Boucher in the north and Gallagher continuing the tradition of the classic AMerican steel string guitar that Martin / Gibson, then Taylor started + added (pours a shot on the ground) and then dropped the torch but hopeful the luthiers you mentioned . . .

    Eagerly await JP's reviews of guitars because I know they will be honest. My only problem is that he reviews a lot of expensive boutique guitars that I will never be able to afford but I guess there are players out there with deep pockets. But he does get down to my affordable level at times and thanks to him I have purchased a Yamaha LL-TA and LL6, and an Alvarez MD70BG, all great guitars. Keep 'em coming!!!

      It’s definitely worth saving, if u traded all those cheap guitars that you bought and and saved or financed another 500-1k u could probably get a great Martin( maybe 15 series all solid wood made in US), or Larivee or even a used Boucher.

    J. P.
    My name is Ross Goodrich and I have the Jim Hurst Signature model #6. I really enjoyed your review on TH-cam. And the sunburst was a visual surprise as I’ve only seen the natural finishes before. I’m wondering what number your guitar is? Jim told me originally they( Don/ Steven) we’re going to build 25 signature models, I wonder if the new owners plan to build more? Anyhoo I think you presented that review in a very truthful and honest way and anyone who might be considering purchasing that guitar should feel much better about moving forward towards owning one.

    The burst on that flat top looks just killer. JP - thank you for the explanation on the recording, nice to know how it's done. I'm saving for one of Robin's beauties, but once that's been done, perhaps a Gallagher 🤔 might look real nice beside her

      For JP, I think someone is trying to impersonate you to scam me. Look at the reply to my comment ~ I'm sure that is not you.
      Just an FYI.
      PS - I'm practicing the scales & other routines from lesson 4, looks a lot easier when you play them - lol, that E scale is tricky 😆

    John, that was nice description on how you address the shoehorning of the sound into the video stream around 9:20. With that in mind can you comment on the "relative loudness" in the room with respect to other guitars and/or a rating such as moderate, loud, very loud, top 10% of loudness?

  • @juice_williams
    @juice_williams ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds great but the finish looks bad where to top of the bridge meets the body treble side. If your going to spend $5,000 on a guitar it needs to be perfect. These boutique guitars loose a lot of value after the first purchase. It's more for folks with deep pockets.

      @juice_williams ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@teleguy5699 yes and if you can notice it in a TH-cam then it is definitely there. I know from personal experience the hardest part of finishing a guitar is right around the bridge.. besides that the only way to purchase a guitar as with a 10-day return policy. Unless of course it is used which is always a good option so you don't lose so much on the resale.

      @juice_williams ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@teleguy5699 Sweetwater has quite a few Martin models available in the left-hand variant and a hassle free return policy,. Other than that then that you could always find a used model that's for sale in state, that way you could drive and try it out first.

    • @teleguy5699
      @teleguy5699 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juice_williams You are right. I love Sweetwater, but the model I was looking for they told me it was a special order and would take months to get and it was not returnable. I bought a Taylor from them and I am happy with it. I have no baseline for Acoustics, and J.P. tried to help me, but his suggestions had no lefties in the size I wanted. I talked to Gallagher today and they make lefties so in the future, they will be on my short list of upgradable guitar makers. They do sound beautiful on YT at least. Thanks for the advise.
