Towing a Mercedes with a Deflated Air Suspension and Locked Wheels

- John Lai tows this Mercedes with a deflated air suspension. The car was sitting on the owner's driveway for over a year. Over time, the suspension completely lost air to the extent where the vehicle's body sits atop the wheels. The weight of the vehicle prevented the wheels from turning. The bigger problem was the vehicle sat so low that neither dollies nor a jack could be slid underneath. An experienced flatbed tow operator, John Lai uses his skill and tools to lift the vehicle so he can tow it to a body shop.

Nah tap some skates under the back tires and hopefully they have a set of jack stands when you get there so you can have an easier time getting your tow strap back outta there. Those cars are a big pain in the ass. Just bill properly… 😆

Show them how it's done ! It would make life alot easier if you guys had a flatbed with air suspension so you guys could have deflated the bags in the tow truck so you could have that much more clearance because the bed wouldn't be at such a angle . You would be surprised what having a air ride truck makes ! Great job tho and next time show the operator shake the car off of the bed . For all of you guys that dont tow watching this video believe it or not , you just saw the easy part of this tow ! Great job to this operator , experience is everything doing this job !

You are the man I need the same thing done for my s550 when I tow it the suspension is to the ground and I'm scared to have it towed and cause damage to the oil pan or underneath
I see these videos where the tow truck gets perfectly in line with the car. But in my apartment complex you have to move the car out of the parking space before you can back the tow truck up to it in a straight line with the car having a damaged ball joint and rack n pinion.

you did great with what you had. In a perfect world if you had every bell and whistle. a high lift jack with a wheel lift attachment would have made this a jif!!!

Can we give a hand and alot of thanks to ppl like this that treat urr car no matter how nice it is or if it looks like 5 hobos live in it and they're hoarders, we treat every tow like it's our own car. It's dangerous, it's usually a thankless job cause when car is pocked up urr home.
All he had to do was knock out the tabs where the factory jack goes insert a thick bolt and jack the car up by the bolt high enough to get the regular jack under done it many times...Mercedes airmatic suspension sucks sad I see so many of these on side of the road because of failure to the airmatic suspension

Gojacks have a lower profile and are adjustable. They also run on casters for spinning the vehicle around easily. Should work in these situations. Worked for me on a slammed vw.

@@honvel I would try summit racing, harbor freight or amazon. Not all brands are created equal. Look for the lowest profile with smaller casters.
Go jacks won't roll onto deck because of the casters the wheels are to small and the casters will turn sideways stationary wheel dollies are the way to go but he didn't line up the car and deck the wheels where straight and deck was angled approach is the only way to do quickly didn't use his mirrors in this scenario plus that's an easy Mercedes to put in neutral probably didn't have the keys he didn't mention

Not trying to make someone look bad bt this was wayy too much time for a jalopy vehicle! If you are hrly paid all you got paid for a 1 hr is for tht wage. If you are commission paid this was even more of a loss. All the time spent doing all tht with those tools, whn the truck is the main tool. The bed is the jack. You could of walked the bed under tht car & loaded in less than 10 mins and made your commission including the drive within the hr to make it the next commission all in the same hour. With no damages if slid with precaution & precision. I do it everyday and some if not most have no wheels or tires. Same way I picked it, is the same way it’ll be when delivered
