I had a 1981 Fiesta Sandpiper. My first car bought in 1989. Loved it of course. A sunroof, radio and headrests...plush. Upgraded the radio to a quad speaker system. Had it for 3 years and sold it to a friend who kept it going a few years yet. And it happily did a 1500 mile round trip to France every year. Epic.
I remember a fiesta sandpiper that was a couple of streets away from us, in the bronze/ cream combo) it was around from the early 80's until the late 90's ) then it seemed to disappear. Strangely enough I was recently looking at old photos on the net of my hometown in the 80's and hey presto! It appeared parked up in the high street: anyway thanks for a great video.
nice too see this ford fiesta, this a limited edition model, sand piper 2,base on the 1.1 l model is best model that time, on the uk now is this model still on the road now
Nice pick for a special edition Saturday. This is such a nice colour combination, Ford seemed to have a thing about 2 tone paint around this time. Even the Sierra at the start on the Xr4i had some 2 tone options, after this though they dropped that. I like how on the rear of the brochure it says the L now comes with electric screen washers, before this remember it was a manual screen wash that you had to pump, which was a bit pathetic to be honest and wasnt any good if it was frosty out so this was probably one of the best safety features yet such a small addition in the brochure. The Ghia style seats do make this much better and would be quite a comfy car. With the L Spec suspension and dampers it might not quite be as comfy as a Ghia on the road though. The 1.1 was a nice engine, i had it in an Escort Mk3 A822OTM. The other wing mirror is also a nice safety feature which we all take for granted today but back in the 70s it was a luxury. Great video as always.
Head rests, mirror on passgener side door, rubbing stripe, pure luxury in late 1970's, Sadly I had poverty spec Fiesta populor 1100 which not had not only had none that, But did'nt even had a radio, reciling front seats, rear wash wipe. can't think why they did'nt have Sandpiper decals like the Capri Cabaret.
Yay! I actually got this on Saturday night in the Philippines! Ford was good at this sort of thing. Of course, we never got the Fiesta in Australia in 1979. The smallest Aussie Ford then was the Escort.
I wonder why they even *tried* to come up with different special-edition names. On the truck side in the US, Ford called all their spring specials "Explorer" throughout the 1970s and '80s (likewise the Chevy Bonanza and Dodge Prospector models).
Just a little different way of selling them I guess - Each ‘ special edition’ was slightly different and only producing in low numbers for each. In most cases just to make the old model more appealing to make room for the newer generation.
Was the fiesta festival available in the UK does anyone remember my sisters first car if memory serves me correctly was an 1981 ford fiesta festival in red over here in Ireland
Fiesta MK1 1.1 was one of the best Fords every but I was never able to understand the Sandpipers horrible colour scheme must have put thousands of buyers off

Fabulous
In Australia, the Sandpiper was an optional pack on a Holden Gemini which turned the panel van versions into a mini Sandman.
