That's because Drag Race favors a particular type of drag, you either have to be high fashion or camp. This is why we have Dragula, so alternative drag performers could finally have a platform.
Unpopular Opinion: With the feral fan base treating queens atrociously on social media, a heavy majority of contestants try very hard to avoid a villain edit. Because this cuts down any good drama significantly, production has stepped into the villain role by doing things like making way questionable decisions, giving bizarre inconsistent critiques, and not doing anything to help contestants with the harassment they endure online. Production will only get more blatantly fake and obtrusive the longer the show goes on.
Recent season girls: "I'm having a difficult time getting along with Miss Thing" Season 2-6 girls: "Miss Thing is rotted, she's a mess, she's bitter and shady, I can't wait to see her go home!"
My unpopular opinion is that for drag race fans and drag race itself, only Skinny queens are viewed as fashion queens. I’ve seen plenty of big girl give us stellar looks but people tend to pass it as camp, but put a skinny girl in the same exact outfit, then it’s high fashion. It feels like only skinny queens/people are allowed to be classified as Fashion dolls, while the big girls are destined to be considered camp
@@lakeshabennett5081 Eureka knows her body and proportions to a T and always serves extremely polished looks. Whatever you think of her personality, there’s no denying that she’s a great drag queen.
Nina bonina brown was absolutely giving it in Greedy. A lot of people say the lipsync was bad just cuz Valentina didn't know the words... It was bad for Valentina. Nina killed it and I strongly believe even if Valentina knew the words. Nina's performance would have sent Valentina home just like she did Aja
@@UtterQueerNightmareIf I remember correctly, Trinity gave it all in that lip sync because she thought Charlie would eat her up since the others were shouting at Charlie. Trinity was too focused to realise what she was actually performing on stage...or rather wasn't.
100% agreed on the plus-sized queens point. I don’t remember who it was, but someone once said they felt they needed to fill their runways with more details and elements because of their size, which I find to be very representative of the show: the skinnier and slimmer contestants could get away with having less detail because there’s less to look at. This whole thing about bigger queens being told to do “more” is just stupid to me. Whatever size they are, they’re still a drag artist and they should all be treated equally.
I think of Mik's little black dress look. Like it was clever but I can't help but think that had a big girl worn it they wouldn't have ignored her discomentary performance
This is why with time I'm siding more with Daya when she rightfully called out Jorgeous' win, which was really because of body type. I love Jorgeous a lot, but I can't deny that skinny preference is veeery much at the core of Drag Race.
i'm glad the impossibly high standards drag race has set for local performers is being addressed, especially regarding aesthetic. this is something that has frustrated me forever because the standards keep raising every single year, and something that would've been considered conceptual on the runway on an earlier season is now deemed as sloppy. it has discouraged me from performing with what little resources i have, to the point where i'm afraid of getting clocked for repeating (comparatively pedestrian) outfits. because fuck my talent.
THISSSS I’m always telling my friends at the club like pls don’t compare the budget our queens at our bars have to the ones you see on drag race. I literally had a person at a bar refuse to tip a girl at bar who was singing LIVE and doing very well because her outfit was “messy” so gross
@@lawrencefosterjenkins8216 Aw I’m sorry to hear that. Yea it’s honestly so fucked up like drag isn’t all about the DESIGNER looks you get made for when you’re on drag race. Like that’s not at all how drag started so it’s a shame there’s bitches like that
These videos can be very hit or miss for me because the whole point of having an unpopular opinion means that little to no one will actually agree with you. So it was very refreshing to see that this video consisted of takes that you really don’t see often in in the fandom, and I found myself enjoying it quite a lot.
My unpopular opinion: Charlie Hides was one of the most mistreated queens in the franchise. Her bottom 2 placement was well deserved, but the reaction to her lipsync was too much. She had to go through one of the most dangerous and ridiculous challenges in the show's history, who injured many. She's also only 4 years younger than Ru and has a decades long career in drag like her, so I found it incredibly disrespectful and ageist. And then everyone attacking her for "making up excuses" and "giving up" in the reunion, in a season where several queens algo gave up? And by RuPaul, especially? Who then goes on to lipsync, uninjured, and moves pretty much as little as Charlie? C'mon!
YES! I love older queens and they almost never get the respect and recognition they deserve on the show. So grateful for CDR4 for giving Kitten Kaboodle her flowers because she’s my favorite 🥹
In regards to the point made at 15:50, that's a huge part of why I really appreciate Spankie Jackzon's win. Out of the past few years of winners, Spankie's drag is the most accurate representation of real life local drag and I'm so happy to see her being celebrated despite not looking like the US winners
The moment I saw spankie walk into the werkeoom I knew she’d be my favourite but I was almost sure she would go home first and I’m so so so glad she didnt
Ok but she was heavily favoured, from Ru calling specifically her to give her a slap on the first episode to the way they almost always* overestimated her on their critiques. I believe it was to make up for the mistreatment another busted queen got on the previous season🤷🏾♂️
im perpetually mad at the mistreatment of "quiet" queens. not everyone has to be an extravert and there will be plenty of people who can relate more to those more introverted and calmer queens
I'm reminded of an interview Lady Bunny gave some years ago in which she pointed out that "Drag Race" and "drag" are two different things. Drag Race is a reality show. It's not the end all/be all of the drag world. People need to remember that.
Probably not "controversial" but something that feels like it needs saying. NONE of the queens are responsible for the shenanigans that arguably derailed AS7. The producers are at fault. Jaida and Yvie's gift stars. Yvie's lack of wins. Shea's triple stars. The editing that cut out Monet's final lipsync gags. Jaida and Yvie losing their finale lipsyncs. None of the queens OR the queen's fans deserve flack for that, and especially Shea, Raja and Jinkx don't deserve to have their talents played down because of producer/editor nonsense.
I completely agree. Getting mad at queens for the way footage of them is frankensteined together to fit production's storyline is completely wrong. Like folks getting upset saying Jaida didn't deserve to win her season because we barely saw her, that isn't her fault!
Big facts! I found myself frustrated for the queens throughout the season, and I’m always happy to see them perform. I consider everything else from the show background noise, if that makes sense.
Thank you for calling out the "points per episode" type of track records. All of those are completely arbitrary, and not to mention you cannot complain about how the judging is rigged while also saying that a queen should have won the season because they got the most wins/high placements. Applying points like that really doesn't do justice to the actual performances of the queens.
Exactly, especially in group acting challenges or girl groups, you can literally give an amazing performance but if you're on the losing team you don't get rewarded, like Viñas, Baby, Cheryl, Kitty
@@gothorama Yeah i know, But i try to not listen to those people cause most of the time they are hypocrites. Acording to the same system Shea lost to Miz Cracker by A LOT but nobody bats an eye about that. People want to support their fave and its fine, just don't be biased and try to invalidate other queens.
I don't know how unpopular this opinion is but I miss weird challenges like the soup can or the boat decorating challenge because their out of the box nature makes for a lot of fun!
@@cigimon4 same but I understand why they don't anymore since Drag Race is huge now so if they go out and are recognised people can spoil who'll be on the season
@@str4yk1dsw0rldd0minati0n i know! and now with the pandemic they don't even have public maybe they could do build sets in the future or do like the s2 strip club on the runway but with more than just boxes as scenography
This may be a bit rude, but I do not think queens should be praised for getting cosmetic surgery. This creates unrealistic standards within the community. Local queens are now expected to have expensive high fashion looks, flawless makeup, smooth skin and a tiny nose.
A lot of queens say that their drag honours the women in their lives, and I think it's kinda sad that this seems to involve - increasingly - only honouring one form of beauty (giant lips, tonnes of cheek filler, Botox). Beauty isn't homogenous! It comes in all forms.
The fact that it took a 6-way win for the greater drag community to go "huh, maybe track record doesn't work" is so insane to me. It's always been wonky at best. And don't get me started on using PPE to compare queens on different seasons...
Something I really miss from the early seasons is the art elements in the challenges, like the design a soup can & boat challenge & the Hello Kitty challenge Wish they had more art & design challenges
I really miss the DIY element on the show because it is a huge part of drag. But of course now that the queens are expected to bring 200 designer dresses and wigs, that fun crafty side has been lost, but I suppose queens like Yvie and Crystal Methyd do still have a bit of that arts and crafts element.
As a sanrio fan I am begging internally for another hello kitty challenge, or something similar, because sanrio has a huge fan base in the lgbt community (I've met so many "Melody and Kuromi" lesbians). That could be a good duo challenge, the sweet one and the shady one (kinda like that season 4 better than you challenge). If they bring hello kitty back I wanna see her on a drag king season, because she is one in some aspects (she cross dresses/plays male roles in a lot of the official crossover art, such as all might or naruto or goku)
One thing that I think we as viewers would be able to understand more is when the judges complain about something not being original and being repeated is if the judges weren't flip flopping about what it is all the time. They'll complain about bodysuits, leotards and other outfits yet they'll keep reward blanket dresses, not asking blonde and white queens to change their wigs all the time compared to 'niche' hair colours which is the most frustrating part. The judges will complain about this and on the same episode they'll reward something we've seen 1,000 times already and it's just afdgvrbvdc.
I absolutely loved LaLa Ri and definitely think she deserved Miss Congeniality BUT a huge part of me wishes she would’ve been eliminated by on principal for the *bag incident*… especially considering how many other queens have gone home after a corset plus heels runway look
Honestly Spankie Jackson winning DRDU2 was a huge leap forward in terms of representation for more “rough around the edges” drag. It wasn’t about her looks at all, just her pure talent
Agreed! And Alexis is very good, but there's something just missing from her lipsyncs. It's like it's almost there and then something so small takes me out of it.
Your last opinion about the big girls were really perfect for me! I think that fascinator look from Kandy was one of my favorites from her, she looked so incredibly good
@@RNCHFND Honestly i really like Aquaria and feel like she deserved her win, Eureka was way too pushed to win and i feel like Ginger is really a snake so I'm pretty glad she lost but we have so many more big girls who deserved better
@@thorn6324 I agree. I would've been okay with Eureka winning had it happened, but I'm glad that Aquaria ended up winning. But with Ginger... I can't get over the way she will be all smiles and encouraging to her "friends" faces, but completely turn on them behind their back like she did with Jiggly. Like I get the choice that she made with choosing Jiggly. But if that was her decision, she shouldn't have made it out to Jiggly's face that she was going to play nice and give her hope of being saved because they were friends. She should've told Jiggly straight up "look, I love you. But you did the worst and I don't think or I can't promise you that I can save you." And Jiggly isn't the only one. She constantly went with the "Katya's my best friend" storyline even though Katya has said multiple times that they very rarely even talked or hung out prior to that. She was just generating that storyline because she knew that Katya was a fan favorite and was hoping it would give producers a reason to keep her in the competition longer. And I've heard so many other things about Ginger and how she is very two-faced with her "friends." I used to love Ginger, and she always seemed so genuine and nice. But I can't stand someone who is two-faced. Don't get me wrong, I love a villan. But at least most villains have the decency to have that same energy the whole time. I'm sorry for my word-vomiting 🤣 I hope this makes sense.
@@thorn6324 But to comment on your original comment, I also agree. It's sad that Lawrence Chaney was the first big girl winner, and she isn't even from a regular season. It took way too long for it to happen.
I definitely agree with the excessive lip syncing point and I think it should be restricted to LSFYL (that includes stopping Rusicals and lip syncs as a talent for the talent shows). We know that drag queens can lip sync and it's hard to entertain without gimmicks, although having less songs to lip sync to leaves a lot more room for something entertaining.
Thailand actually does a point scoring system and it's wonderful. There are some episodes where the judges will directly talk about how a contestant scoring low in one portion of the week put them in the bottom even though they did well otherwise
idk if this is unpopular but i actually love the makeover challenge especially when they would bring celebs in, it's just so fun and i love to see queens' faces on other people
unpopular opinion AS1 had one of my favorite challenge ideas: taking the queens out of the set and actually having their charisma/comedy/fashion skills tested in real scenarios i'd love to see more challenges (stand up, makeovers, interviews, balls) being done in the real world
That wouldn’t work in this day and age unless you confiscate everyone’s cell phone and make them sign ironclad NDA’s where they are sued for everything they own, not just their dusty wig, so no tea is spilt!
She was also quick to give praise and talk about how amazing the other queens were. She was blunt and called out what other people should have been calling out. She was also a super supportive sister.
Not a controversial opinion, but I still stand by lip syncing not being a “special talent” on a Drag Race competition, when one of the main parts of the comp is already to lipsync.
Unpopular opinion Lip Syncs need more drama and stakes in RPDR. somehow a majority of this fandom sees the lip syncs as boring or unnecessary in some cases, when Drag is 90% about lip syncing in the real world. Just because some queens fail to make it entertaining just goes to show the importance of it, since when they tour or go to clubs that's what they will be doing. Not just walking around or telling random jokes.
THANK YOU. I was about to say this. Down Under Season 2 did an excellent job. Was a LOT better than the first season (even when RDDU1 is one of my favorite seasons)
@@sxbino DRDU season 1 is one of your favs? That's definitely the first time I've ever heard that. I guess I agree with the majority in thinking that season was a complete disaster. But even so, it had some of my favorite queens like Coco, Jojo, Elektra, Anita, Kita, Maxi, and Art. So basically most of the cast lol. If they would've had a better production, I definitely think it could've been one of the best. Up there with Espana, even. But it was just filled with too many crazy decisions, production riggoey, and dark clouds.
@@keastonz yeah, production was doing some crazy stuff without a good reason, but overall I put that season so high in my list because of the Cast, very talented people and for a first season? Just WOW for me. I know many people hated it because of how cheap it looked, but I had a lot of fun watching it honestly. At the end of the day that's what matters 🥰
idk if this is an opinion ppl really think about but mine is that the 2018 DR fandom wasn't ready for DR Thailand. the 2021 fandom has welcomed all the international seasons where as in 2018 I remember Thailand getting payed dust and idk if it was bc it was the first international season but my opinion is that Thailand not being in English/not western made ppl not care for it bc westerns can't handle subtitles and etc. tbh I could talk about DR Thailand forever lol
agreed and it doesn't help that on a lot of these channels that cover drag race they dont watch non english seasons either which just encourages fans not to watch. Bit of a shout out to Mera Mangles channel cause she always watches everything so she accurately covers stuff.
Unpopular (?) Opinion: People complain about winners like Willow Pill and Kylie Sonique Love being forgettable after the show, but these viewers don't stop watching every single new Drag Race franchise that comes up instead of following their favorite queens to know what they're up to.
I love that you popped the track record bubble. That point system is for us number crazy fans for ourselves. Doesn't mean anything at the end for the show.
not necessarily about drag race but by proxy: u. or formerly “Uckey Lee” has a racial bias and has warped the perception of so many drag race viewers with the “PPE” score evidence for racial bias in one of their now deleted AS7 videos where they claim they like Jaida bc they can be unapologetically Black without being “aggressive” about it
Imo, u. is a twink with loads of opinions about something they've had little experience in. Just because you watch drag race and follow a couple local queen's, doesn't mean you have all the knowledge possible about drag. Also agree about how PPE has warped people's perception about what a winner should be.
Unpopular opinion: If you are going to make queens lipsync in ball gowns, give them a ballad like they've done with Canada seasons 2 and 3, and Espana season 1. When they get thrown a high energy song in a gown, it results in a subpar lipsync like Season 14 Telephone lipsync or forces the queens have to basically de-drag to pull out an entertaining performance like Down Under season 2 where Hannah and Kween had to take off part of their look because the song required it. I think ballads more or less even the playing field when it comes to lipsyncs, especially in the finale, because you can't hide behind tricks and stunts. If the producers want stunts, dips and tricks, let them do the final lipsync in a performance look and THEN change into their coronation looks. Making them lipsync in what will end up being their crowning looks I feel takes away from the entire point of the Lipsync for the Crown/Finale lipsync. Imagine if Cracker actually got crowned in a pickle swimsuit? No shade but I want someone to look as glamourous as possible when winning a giant crown and scepter. Thats just me tho.
I have a controversial opinion: Aquaria's performance in the lipsync smackdown for the crown was incredible. She did a fully realized choreography in both lipsyncs.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for talking about plus size queens and fashion !! I'm tired of the show and the fans underlining their talent and fashion just because of their size !
Its one of the biggest contradictions of the show: on one hand the judges tell contestants drag doesn't have to be expensive, instead its all about your creativity and making something unique ( i.e Joe Black buying a cheap dress and not customizing it, Mo Heart on her original season making every outfit) but then on the other hand the high standard set by previous seasons pushes the queens to drop big $$ to be competitive especially if they can't sew. Not everyone has the same resources so it would be nice if they started returning to the roots of the show and casting more queens who are thrifty and less polished.
I think my potentially unpopular opinion would be that the show doesn’t actually treat plus sized queens that well and expects them to make jokes out of their size. I think this is particularly apparent in s9 when discussing body image issues. Eureka received serious backlash for making an eating disorder joke (as she should have been) when contestants like Sasha and Valentina had struggled with anorexia in the past. However, when the script is flipped and alexis tells the other queens she’s not comfortable with all the fat jokes she’s getting due to previous body image issues, she’s told by the others and even ru herself that she can dish it out but not take it and needs to learn how to take it and embrace her issues even tho she’s highlighted how to her it’s extremely harmful. Of course neither of these instances are ok but the show only treats these disorders seriously when it makes you skinnier rather than larger
I think the conversation about local drag in the show could change: Spankie winning Down Under being a representative of a small town drag queen, and UK4 eliminating the young, fashion girls very early could be proof of that. Now, for that to be applied to the US, we would have to wait but storylines like Yvie's or Crystal Methyd's are some peeks into that type of consideration for local performers. But I think, a big part of it is them to be open to more seasoned performers. For example, Adore said in the most recent Roscoe's viewing party, that on S14 the oldest queen was one year younger than her. Yes, they casted Tamisha the season before, but you can see that the casts for the US are younger and younger, leaving no room for local, seasoned performers.
I feel you, but imagine a queen like Naomi Smalls padding…it would look so unusual in terms of how she brands herself. Don’t get me wrong, I love when a queen pads and gives themselves an amazing figure. But sometimes I don’t mind it.
@@thirdeyyye naomi is literally one of my favorite queens ever! i was talking more about the recent and current seasons. i’m definitely not saying all queens should pad.
THANK YOU for talking abt PPE! I’m a stat NERD, like I can sometimes like sports bc I like the stats part of it so much. But damn PPE! Some fans act as if it’s an end-all-be-all and if you don’t have the *best* possible PPE, you’re worthless. GoodBYE! Ru doesn’t let ANYONE else make the decision for him, but y’all think he’s gonna let a few NUMBERS run his szns?!?!?
@@callumfootitt5366 I feel like it’s a lot of places, but that channel is definitely v bad abt it. But I stopped watching them after they were rude to Kornbread
your point about more rough around the edges queens is why im so happy that spankie jackzon won drag race down under because shes an ABSOLUTE star who really just is the embodiment of a local drag performer, and the fact she did so well is just a testament to how well they can do if judged on the same playing field.
I think scoring on the runway might be hard because it's not just the clothes but also the illusion, the mug, the walk, the character, etc. Ru should produce a new show about local and edgy drag. Like a documentary series etc. I like the older seasons where the costumes weren't so expensive and over the top.
idk if it’s controversial, but jasmine masters was right - rupaul’s drag race has ruined drag it has also improved it in so many ways, but the way rpdr runs is inherently transphobic and misogynistic in a way that is infectious to the community as a whole. as a queer femme presenting person i am treated like trash by a lot of straight and queer people who think they can speak for the entire community because they watch drag race edit: i’m rewatching this video lol i think the fact that drag race values straight women more than queer women as guests and judges just speaks to the exclusion queer women constantly face from cis queer men in the community. like, let’s talk about queer herstory, but don’t forget the role lesbians play in it all! one or two makeover challenges over the years does not account for the labor queer women constantly do!
Aquaria was maybe the first "Fashion-Queen" that won the Ball and Snatch Game, but ... on the other hand, here's a Fun Fact: DeLa and Bianca won in Season 6 the first Challenge (the season was splitted in the beginning, so two groups), which was a design-challenge. DeLa later won the Snatch Game and Bianca won the comedy stand-up challenge. Both were never considered as the "Fashion-Queen", maybe the "Old-Fashion-Queen" (what I totally adore). Back then it was never a thing, that a "Comedy-Queen" could also win a "Design-Challenge".
Here's my controversial comment: I never really got/understood the major Pandora Boxx hype. Like even in her original season. I don't hate her at all she's just alright but I see a lot of people always get hyped especially when the AS6 cast was announced. I genuinely want to understand how come she's so beloved.
My unpopular opinion is that Phi Phi was completely right in All Stars 2, every comment she made that the edit played as shady was absolutely fair (Seriously, go through the episodes and tell me where she was wrong about something) ESPECIALLY when it came to what Alyssa could get away with just because she was Alyssa. Sure, that final episode had her clearly being the angry queen stereotype we think of her as and who wouldn't be since it was pretty obvious that they were set up to be turned into a villain.
i think this is your best video so far!!! i love the editing and i love how confident you've gotten throughout this year!!! i would pay to see you as a judge on drag race
I would actually love a longer break between regular DR us seasons but in between like 6epb mini seasons with 'local'/newer/rough around the edges queens. That way they aren't being compared to polished performers and the short season means it won't cost as much
The PPE system is such a stupid concept that drag race stans use. Its even worse when one fan gives points for being in the bottom, while another deducts points for being in the bottom. It’s so stupid, because it’s so arbitrary.
Honestlty one thing I don't like about the show anymore is how high fashion it is now. Back in the older seasons they were never afraid to show off the campy side of drag, especially with those low quality backgrounds and just the editing in general. Nowadays the quality is so high that the show has lost its camp style which is quintessential to drag culture
Unpopular Opinion: As much as I love Kylie Sonique Love, and think she was deserving of the AS6 crown, I do think production helped push her to win (favoritism) in order to have their first Trans winner, and therefore bandaid Rupaul's rocky reputation with the trans community.
Mine is that I get a deep, visceral cringe reaction when a queen describes themselves as 'kooky'. I don't know why.. it just feels so try-hard and 'look at me'. I get like your aunt on Facebook posting minion memes energy from queens who act like that.
Here's my unpopular opinion: when a big girl does good she doesn't get praise, but her thin counterparts gets it in spades. I just pray that the big queens will get treated fairly asap.
Agreed. I also don't think she was robbed as track record REALLY mattered back then and Ru adored Tyra. My unpopular opinion on it is that S2 as a whole is a hard watch. It just felt so tense, especially right after S1 which had a COMPLETELY different vibe, it was a drastic change. Raven's attitude was horrible and she's still so problematic. Addressing the elephant in the room, Tyra's mental health was VISIBLY declining (imo, tho I've had bad breakdowns, idk if everyone else can notice) during the show which explains her behaviour and adds to the whole hard watch thing imo❤️🩹 I don't hate her but I wish she hadn't participated, I know she 100% had the right to but maybe it wasn't her time yet or there was too much going on outside of the show...I feel awful because it's easy to tell she never quite recovered. The constant hatred from the fandom is ABSOLUTELY to blame and has caused a lot of damage, but I think her mental health wasn't at its best to begin with and she was still really young for the early seasons. I heard she performs locally, I hope she's better now
For those that think story shouldn't matter, I present to you Drag Race Australia, season 1. Would you have been happy if a racist, a person who dressed up in black face with blacked out teeth on Australia's Invasion Day (single digit years ago) had won? No? Yeah, I didn't think so. Storyline matters sometimes for very important reasons.
On the vein of wanting the accessibility for more types of drag: I wish there was a way to cap the amount of money spent on a season. I know this is absolutely impossible with items that had already been purchased/loaned/made vs bought/etc., but I hate hearing about people spending more money on looks for a season than they would a car or a home in some places. I have a hard time watching eliminations for the first half of the season because it seems so much more heartbreaking. Then you have Rupaul yelling at Joe Black about a dress from H&M (even though I thought the look was actually adorable). These contestants shouldn’t have to gamble with that high of stakes.
Another unpopular opinion what's the point in bringing on Queens like Dahlia sin and kimora hall who only care about looks and literally have nothing else going for them?
What bothers me about the track record argument is that people try to have it both ways. They'll say the judging for a particular season is biased then use THOSE SAME judgements to decide if a queen "deserves" to win
Unpopular Opinion : Trinity The Tuck is a superstar and even after winning 11 challenges, the fans don't give her enough love. She deserved to win atleast 1/2 lipsyncs against Jinkx. ( Trinity lost the wig in one and Jinkx fell in the second)
I think my biggest hot take is that I wasn’t mad about Denali’s elimination. I think even if Rosé looked bad, she looked just like Tina so she did the challenge correctly. And Denali just put Liv in her entrance outfit. Plus I thought she looked great in Liv’s drag. That’s my biggest one 😅
My unpopular opinion is that I never laugh at Snatch game. Not once have I even smiled at it. Most of the times, I don’t get the references, nor do I know the person the Queens are impersonating. And even when I know the person, I just don’t understand any of the jokes. Or I think they’re really tired. Like that one “Maria the Robot” snatch game, that a lot of people really liked. I actually cringed at the jokes, because having a robot say weird things is a joke that’s really old. The only time I laughed at Snatch game was when I read a comment that said: “Brita gave more Wario than Jennifer.” Ugh I don’t know, I don’t think Snatch game really works for me. I just don’t understand its appeal. Sometimes I do know who they’re impersonating and what they’re referencing with their jokes. Yet I still don’t get it. Whenever I see a snatch game clip, I sit there watching it with this face: •_•
Unpopular opinion: Trixie Mattel has the POTENTIAL to have been a lip sync assassin. Make sense? Because I really don’t think she had any BAD lip syncs. She just happened to be against… well… front runners 😊 And Pearl. I still hate that Pearl won that lip sync .-. Slightly less unpopular opinion: Katya should’ve won more lip syncs .-.
Finally someone speaking up on the fashion of plus sized queens, I’m a huge fan of Eureka and most of Kandy’s fashion so it’s nice to finally see people not dunking on them like they never turned any good looks 😩
Really? Kandy just did the same thing every week on All Stars. I felt like the judges didn't say anything to compensate for the fact that bigger queens have historically recieved harsher critiques for ill-fitting or outfits otherwise innappropriate to the runway theme
I have a few. 1) I get mad when the judges are uber shocked EVERYTIME a big girl does a stunt. Like if you're shocked the first time I get it but when they cut to a judge with their mouth on the floor after EVERY time a big girl does a split, jump etc etc. 2) Canada season 2 is one of the worst seasons ever. 3) AS6 did a better hotel room challenge. 4) Dia Betty is a carbon copy of Krystal Method. 5) I get so annoyed that dance queens are so praised and I often find them dull and DEFINITELY don't get the hype. 6) I never want snatch game to go away. 7) I loved Milk on season 6 but not AS3. 8)I'm happy they changed it from "woman" to "drag queen". 9) BeBe should not have been on AS3. I think that's it. Once again all my opinions, no you won't change them.
Can we talk about how seasons 1-10 have been taken off uk Netflix and put onto wowpresents+…. So frustrating and this limits access and interest so much more. I jsut listened to Brenda Call Me wkth Courtney and she said how important it was when drag race came on Netflix in the UK and it provided a new wave of interest for the season 6 queens.
as a an alt queen/drag demon... THANK YOU! I feel like so many people have a view of drag that is limited to drag race - like no! queens aren't gonna pop out of the wazoo with custom bodysuits and human hair wigs. And (shocker) some people do have different styles of drag than the one presented on drag race! I just hope those performers can get their flowers as well because there is so much deserving talent that may not fit into a particular box.

I really hate when they tell Alternative Drag Preformers to do Glamor and never tell the Glamor Girls to try to do things differently.
This!! This 100%!
I agree but I feel like we have def heard the judges before being like “don’t rely on body / pretty “
@@bobixx6965 I think they used to say this, now it's just that you cannot rely only our Looks.
This is just objectively a truth, like nobody could even argue with this imo
Recent season girls: "I'm having a difficult time getting along with Miss Thing"
Season 2-6 girls: "Miss Thing is rotted, she's a mess, she's bitter and shady, I can't wait to see her go home!"

Except Mistress and Lux did not care how shady they were on this past season lol

"You're a liar, and this is why Derrick don't like you" lives in my head rent-free.
Agreed, to me Lawrence is a fashion queen, every outfit hugged her body just right and she always looked immaculate 💖💖💖
To be fair, It's like that outside of drag too. Sometimes It's not a look, It's just skinny
yeah i believe eureka and lawrence are def fashion queens and never treated as such
That part. Eureka slays a look and is so detailed with her makeup she can paint with the best and she doesn’t half step
Same with Trinity and Charlie. Everyone remembers it as really shit and lackluster, but Trinity was GIVING

The case of “Is it fashion, or is a skinny person just wearing it?”
i'm glad the impossibly high standards drag race has set for local performers is being addressed, especially regarding aesthetic. this is something that has frustrated me forever because the standards keep raising every single year, and something that would've been considered conceptual on the runway on an earlier season is now deemed as sloppy. it has discouraged me from performing with what little resources i have, to the point where i'm afraid of getting clocked for repeating (comparatively pedestrian) outfits. because fuck my talent.
This needs to be talked about more!!!
Kennedy Davenport put it best: "fuck my drag, right?"
THISSSS I’m always telling my friends at the club like pls don’t compare the budget our queens at our bars have to the ones you see on drag race. I literally had a person at a bar refuse to tip a girl at bar who was singing LIVE and doing very well because her outfit was “messy” so gross
@@Mendejito that's so depressing, but i believe you because as a live singer i've also been there :(
@@lawrencefosterjenkins8216 Aw I’m sorry to hear that.
And you are getting the most likes in the comments, so your unpopular opinion about unpopular opinion videos is getting popular 🤣❤️
Is that rose from sword and shield in your pfp?

OMG A FASHION QUEEN???? THANK YOU SO MUCH!! AND THANK YOU FOR STATING THAT WE DRESS FOR US AND IT WORKS FOR US. LOVE U
LOVE U DEJA
We love you dejaaaa❤❤
C'mon!
I felt exactly the same over Joe Black’s treatment on the UK season. She had an incredible legacy and was treated like garbage.
No older queen has ever made it far! Mrs. Kasha Davis made it the furthest!
@@erikstone2321 Kitten seems like the one that could change that
YES! I love older queens and they almost never get the respect and recognition they deserve on the show. So grateful for CDR4 for giving Kitten Kaboodle her flowers because she’s my favorite 🥹
Girl, she was caught doing blackface and got read down by all her black castmates. She doesn’t deserve a pity party lol.
In regards to the point made at 15:50, that's a huge part of why I really appreciate Spankie Jackzon's win. Out of the past few years of winners, Spankie's drag is the most accurate representation of real life local drag and I'm so happy to see her being celebrated despite not looking like the US winners
Spankie’s win is right on so many levels, I’m so thankful they crowned her
Was just about to say this! Love Spankie!
@@andre.andrade91 lmao she won every episode fairly and quite honestly should've won the Snatch Game. the Liza was sub par at best
im perpetually mad at the mistreatment of "quiet" queens. not everyone has to be an extravert and there will be plenty of people who can relate more to those more introverted and calmer queens
HAVING AN AESTHETIC WAS ONE OF MY MAIN GOALS GOING ONTO THE SHOW SO THANK U ❤
Thank you for calling out the "points per episode" type of track records. All of those are completely arbitrary, and not to mention you cannot complain about how the judging is rigged while also saying that a queen should have won the season because they got the most wins/high placements. Applying points like that really doesn't do justice to the actual performances of the queens.
@@gothorama i agree with the OP's comment but acording to that system Sasha Velour just had 0.2 points less than Shea.
@@goleon7671 : That still invalidates her, according to some parts of the fandom.
This may be a bit rude, but I do not think queens should be praised for getting cosmetic surgery. This creates unrealistic standards within the community. Local queens are now expected to have expensive high fashion looks, flawless makeup, smooth skin and a tiny nose.
Agree
I really like in season 15 Ru telling one of the queens that she shouldn't over contour her nose because her nose was big and beautiful
When was there a 6 way win?! I've been missing so much
@@nevaehonrefni a few weeks ago on UK4 Episode 2
Something I really miss from the early seasons is the art elements in the challenges, like the design a soup can & boat challenge & the Hello Kitty challenge
Wish they had more art & design challenges
calling as3 an “early season” 😭😭😭
Yep and that's why my unpopular opinion is that ru and Michelle need to retire. We need new opinions.
I absolutely loved LaLa Ri and definitely think she deserved Miss Congeniality BUT a huge part of me wishes she would’ve been eliminated by on principal for the *bag incident*… especially considering how many other queens have gone home after a corset plus heels runway look
Not to mention it was falling apart as she walked the runway. Even for a corset look, it wasn't a well executed one.
Honestly Spankie Jackson winning DRDU2 was a huge leap forward in terms of representation for more “rough around the edges” drag. It wasn’t about her looks at all, just her pure talent
finally some love for macho man!! peppermint really is one of THE lip synchers ever
Agreed! And Alexis is very good, but there's something just missing from her lipsyncs. It's like it's almost there and then something so small takes me out of it.
Not only that. Everyone was having fun and singing along. All of these combined make it the best lipsync for me. Second is shut up and drive

Your last opinion about the big girls were really perfect for me! I think that fascinator look from Kandy was one of my favorites from her, she looked so incredibly good
The fact that Ginger and Eureka BOTH lost TWICE to white fashion girls is so wrong to me
@@RNCHFND Honestly i really like Aquaria and feel like she deserved her win, Eureka was way too pushed to win and i feel like Ginger is really a snake so I'm pretty glad she lost but we have so many more big girls who deserved better
Runways should have a score from 1/10 since the show loves to reference Paris is Burning any chance it gets!
Yes! Especially because some looks are SO good but then everyone forgets about them right after
I definitely agree with the excessive lip syncing point and I think it should be restricted to LSFYL (that includes stopping Rusicals and lip syncs as a talent for the talent shows).
Yeah but you can win the main challenge and still get eliminated.. what’s wonderful about that.. seems convoluted to me
Kinda iconic tbh
idk if this is unpopular but i actually love the makeover challenge especially when they would bring celebs in, it's just so fun and i love to see queens' faces on other people
unpopular opinion
AS1 had one of my favorite challenge ideas: taking the queens out of the set and actually having their charisma/comedy/fashion skills tested in real scenarios
i'd love to see more challenges (stand up, makeovers, interviews, balls) being done in the real world
That wouldn’t work in this day and age unless you confiscate everyone’s cell phone and make them sign ironclad NDA’s where they are sued for everything they own, not just their dusty wig, so no tea is spilt!
Unpopular opinion I would have added: Daya Betty was right on all counts and I do not understand how people disagreed/thought she was a villain.
I think the big reason that the stakes have declined is because we know what the result's going to be. Ru can't ignore her bias anymore.
I think drag race down under season 2 did an impeccable job at representing what australian local drag is like, especially with spankie
Your pfp is amazing 😂
THANK YOU. I was about to say this. Down Under Season 2 did an excellent job. Was a LOT better than the first season (even when RDDU1 is one of my favorite seasons)
@@sxbino DRDU season 1 is one of your favs? That's definitely the first time I've ever heard that. I guess I agree with the majority in thinking that season was a complete disaster. idk if this is an opinion ppl really think about but mine is that the 2018 DR fandom wasn't ready for DR Thailand. the 2021 fandom has welcomed all the international seasons where as in 2018 I remember Thailand getting payed dust and idk if it was bc it was the first international season but my opinion is that Thailand not being in English/not western made ppl not care for it bc westerns can't handle subtitles and etc. tbh I could talk about DR Thailand forever lol
agreed and it doesn't help that on a lot of these channels that cover drag race they dont watch non english seasons either which just encourages fans not to watch.
Doesn't mean anything at the end for the show.
not necessarily about drag race but by proxy:
u. or formerly “Uckey Lee” has a racial bias and has warped the perception of so many drag race viewers with the “PPE” score
evidence for racial bias in one of their now deleted AS7 videos where they claim they like Jaida bc they can be unapologetically Black without being “aggressive” about it
Imo, u. is a twink with loads of opinions about something they've had little experience in.
Well it was filmed twice I would hope she got it right the second time
👀
I shall always describe her as Bambi on Ice 🤷♂️😂
Kandy’s alien runway is unironically my favourite of hers. It’s so stupid and camp I love it
Mandy Kuse😫
That thing? really?
Of course neither of these instances are ok but the show only treats these disorders seriously when it makes you skinnier rather than larger
i think the point was that alexis made those kinds of jokes as well but couldn't receive them, that's the difference
My unpopular option: Ru and Michelle are my least favorite part of the show.

your point about more rough around the edges queens is why im so happy that spankie jackzon won drag race down under because shes an ABSOLUTE star who really just is the embodiment of a local drag performer, and the fact she did so well is just a testament to how well they can do if judged on the same playing field.
Thank you for shouting out Peppermint, because my gosh mama was a fun time on tv! I especially enjoyed her drag daughter Wintergreen!!!!!
I think scoring on the runway might be hard because it's not just the clothes but also the illusion, the mug, the walk, the character, etc.
Ru should produce a new show about local and edgy drag. Like a documentary series etc. I like the older seasons where the costumes weren't so expensive and over the top.
idk if it’s controversial, but jasmine masters was right - rupaul’s drag race has ruined drag
it has also improved it in so many ways, but the way rpdr runs is inherently transphobic and misogynistic in a way that is infectious to the community as a whole. as a queer femme presenting person i am treated like trash by a lot of straight and queer people who think they can speak for the entire community because they watch drag race
edit: i’m rewatching this video lol
i think the fact that drag race values straight women more than queer women as guests and judges just speaks to the exclusion queer women constantly face from cis queer men in the community. like, let’s talk about queer herstory, but don’t forget the role lesbians play in it all! one or two makeover challenges over the years does not account for the labor queer women constantly do!
Here's my controversial comment:
I never really got/understood the major Pandora Boxx hype. Like even in her original season. I don't hate her at all she's just alright but I see a lot of people always get hyped especially when the AS6 cast was announced. I genuinely want to understand how come she's so beloved.
18:26
This is kinda happening with that one all stars 10 contestant.
I really love how bouncy Pep’s wig during the reveal
My unpopular opinion is that Phi Phi was completely right in All Stars 2, every comment she made that the edit played as shady was absolutely fair (Seriously, go through the episodes and tell me where she was wrong about something) ESPECIALLY when it came to what Alyssa could get away with just because she was Alyssa. Sure, that final episode had her clearly being the angry queen stereotype we think of her as and who wouldn't be since it was pretty obvious that they were set up to be turned into a villain.
The 6 way lip sync was fucking hilarious lol. Top tier entertainment
i think this is your best video so far!!! i love the editing and i love how confident you've gotten throughout this year!!! i would pay to see you as a judge on drag race
My controversial opinion is that Utica and Jaidynn Diore Fierce should've won the Two Girls One Cup Acting Challenge on All Fan Favorites 29
Mine is that I get a deep, visceral cringe reaction when a queen describes themselves as 'kooky'. I don't know why.. it just feels so try-hard and 'look at me'. I get like your aunt on Facebook posting minion memes energy from queens who act like that.
Agreed. Any queen that has to point out that they’re a comedy queen generally are not that funny.
Here's my unpopular opinion: when a big girl does good she doesn't get praise, but her thin counterparts gets it in spades. I just pray that the big queens will get treated fairly asap.
Unpopular opinion: Raven is the real evil villain of season two.
Just rewatch Untucked! from season 2 and you’ll see what I mean!
I heard she performs locally, I hope she's better now
I’m sorry to be that person, but I don’t think ginger Minj’s season seven snatch game of Adele was that great, and I don’t think it deserved to win
Great video as usual Jack!
“Having huge bajoinkers” this is HILARIOUS
For those that think story shouldn't matter, I present to you Drag Race Australia, season 1. Would you have been happy if a racist, a person who dressed up in black face with blacked out teeth on Australia's Invasion Day (single digit years ago) had won? No? Yeah, I didn't think so. Storyline matters sometimes for very important reasons.
You forgot Widow, she had fantastic looks and she wasn't ever appreciated for her aestheric on her season.
Unpopular opinion: US franchise has lost its sparkle and became just plastic. All the magic is lost behind "drama" and "good TV".
I only liked like half of Aquaria’s runways, I, personally thought the rest were bad. I personally don’t really see her as a fashion queen.
they will NEVER do that fixed score concept because it'd leave less room for riggory
Another unpopular opinion what's the point in bringing on Queens like Dahlia sin and kimora hall who only care about looks and literally have nothing else going for them?
the ball is the best challenge and should never be removed from any season/franchise
My unpopular opinion is that on the uk series, they need to stop using panto dame as an insult.
2:43 nina bonia brown killed alllllllll her lipsynces I think there was a lot of good lip syncs in this season
I hate track record arguments. There are MANY times i disagree with the judges, so many times the wins and bottom 2 placements mean nothing to me
What bothers me about the track record argument is that people try to have it both ways. They'll say the judging for a particular season is biased then use THOSE SAME judgements to decide if a queen "deserves" to win
Drag Race UK season 4 tarnished itself by having one of the most fashionable cast but not changing the challenges to be more fashion oriented.
When you said about plus sized queens...I was like.....yessssss....but as soon as you said Kandy, I am like...nope!!
One thing I'll say. Kandy as a fashion queen? Sure, she hit a couple times but with half of her looks, her angel needed an angel
The only time I laughed at Snatch game was when I read a comment that said: “Brita gave more Wario than Jennifer.”
Ugh I don’t know, I don’t think Snatch game really works for me.
I just don’t understand its appeal.
Sometimes I do know who they’re impersonating and what they’re referencing with their jokes.
Yet I still don’t get it.
Whenever I see a snatch game clip, I sit there watching it with this face: •_•
huge bajoinkers is a new one lmao loved this video!!
Rebecca Glasscock was in the right to clap back at Jade during the Season 1 reunion.
As soon as I got this notification
Literally 😭😭
as a an alt queen/drag demon...
