Organizedc, I was also present for this race back in 1983 at age 14 with my brother - but up in the stands!
What a day it was and what a treat to see it again (but first time on TV) after all these years. Coghlan was always a hero to me.
    Thanks for again for posting.

This run was incredible in that he was 31 and bear in mind that he did it on an 10+ lap track... El G's WR 3:48.5 and later the Ethiopian Kejelcha WR 3:47.01 were run on a 200 m track.

Doing the math that's an average speed of just over 15.7 miles an hour. It's hard to understand for us mortals how it's possible to maintain that speed over the course of a mile. Eamonn made it looks effortless. There was no wasted motion. His form was as near perfection as one can get.

В залах, за всю историю, его превзошли только эфиоп Кежелча 3.47.01( 2019) и марокканец Эль Герруж 348.45( 1997), но они бежали на 200м дорожках с современным покрытием. In the 5000 meter Olympic Final the leader an Ethopian Runner stepped out of the way and allowed the winner Miurts Yifter another Ethopian through on the inside from a very boxed position and that had a big bearing on the race because it left Yifter through past Coghlan on the inside

Where did the tradition of Irish indoor runners go like Coughlan, Flynn, O' Sullivan and runners like O'Mara, and O'Donavan they were the Golden days of Irish indoor athletics. I suppose the smame could be said of The Britsih 800m and 1500m outdoor athletes. Is it because the Africans (Morrocons, Kenyans and Etheopians have taken over that mantle ?
There has been the odd athlete through like Sonia O' Sullivan and C. Mc Kiernan
