Elliott's music is a gift that keeps on giving. I hope his family know how much he is adored and find a way to release all of this music - it can even be done "on demand" and mail discs out direct, without a label...I'm hoping. Miss you Elliott
Hes really just singing to himself and we were lucky enough somebody captured it. This truly feels more than personal. It almost feels criminal that we get to hear it. Imagine how many songs he may have kept to himself. The sovereignty of being able to sing yourself sick, sad and happy

Elliott Smith, and his music is a faithful companion, in moments where you cannot even tell your best friend the deepest decadences and sadnesses of your soul, but there is the legacy of this artist to channel souls towards inner peace in the midst of the shit
I know your comment is from years ago but I just happened to come across this reconstruction of Misery Let Me Down! I had always hoped a full version of this would surface... but this reconstruction sounds amazing! I couldn’t even tell it was edited 🖤 m.th-cam.com/video/L-WUCpWeCSw/w-d-xo.html
It's not on any bootlegs or compilations- Elliott was recording a radio show and recorded this as a warm-up before Division Day. The DJ misplaced this part of the tape recording and came across it years later in November '11 (I think?), and uploaded it online.

He's sincerely the gift that keeps on giving, and the fact that he was so incredibly gifted and prolific musically has ensured that you will be finding more and more treasures as the years shall pass. I'm being serious about that you'll be finding gems and live recordings that you've never had the pleasure of hearing before well into your late 30's to this I promise you, friend. So rejoice brothers and sisters!!!
You can hear him kinda chuckle in the background after he ends. That’s the sound of a mess up, I know it too well but it almost feels like a chuckle of “I know they want more but I won’t give it to them”

Alot of us wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Elliott he truly sacrificed himself so that future generations of lost souls could have someone to relate to
@SuperEustress Yeah man I think about that alot it's crazy isn't it weird how ever since Elliott has gone the world just seems to have fallen on its ass in every way possible I know you could say about every person who has died in the last 8 years but it's just kind of like we lost someone so special the balance kind of shifted
I think all of our faces when the song abruptly ended goes like... DDDDDD: and then a big nooooooooo. Amazing song. Amazing artist. Amazing no. Immortal!

Oh my god! One of my all time favs. Thank you again, great slideshow too. Where did you find the recording? For awhile you could buy it, I have it on an old android that ran "zune" or some shit and this radio appearance was for sale. Can't find it anymore tho....
For the guy who asked for the lyrics and then suddenly removed the comment I've listed them as best as I can tell there's a couple of words I couldn't quite pick up so if anyone wants to correct then just let me know
Melody reminds a lot of Honey Pie (and the kind of early sXX swing the fab four based a bunch of songs in turn -in this case, McCa), only slowed down, though the song is a lot deeper and melancholy, of course. In case sb. thinks this otherwise, I must say I'm sayin this because I love the way Elliott let the influence into some his music. Too much interwined with his own personality and style for anyone to completely separate elements form either side, even if you can feel the influence. Of course, I must insist, this is only true for some tracks. Many other have other influences, or even none recognizable at all.
Well, opinions will be just opinions, and mine isn't none the worthier than yours. Anyway, you're -unintentionally, I guess- agreeing with me in some small measure, since Honey Pie IS very much a ragtime tune.
I just have that impresion on a global impression kind of way... Maybe you're a musician, and I'm unable to speak in technical music terms, since I'm not one so I'll probably have no option but shutting up (?). Anyway, if you could give a detailed explanation of your vision, I´d appreciate it, and many other people reading these comments would, too. Makes a lot of sense, since a lot of people -like me- don't quite master musical terminology, but make some sense of it when they read a description in such terms. No irony here, I do want to receive opinions and learn. Hope my English is not too bad.
So I took it upon myself to imagine the lyrics that Elliott might have written to end the song... *I'm a shell, in a cell Looking my self in the face Won't you do me a favor and come invade my space** I sit and wait for a call will i ever hear that sound, never seemed to make sense at all, that...misery let me down *Don't know when...to begin and try to join the human race . Wont you do me a favor and come and take my place..* Where did the happiness go? Maybe in the lost and found. But I probably couldn't tell at all, because...misery let me down. **Fade out**
@wepmajoe I know, I know I was just looking at it from a weird prespective it just feel likes the world has gone down hill so quickly in the last 5 or so years but I guess that was cause of stupidity put in place 10/15 years ago that is only catching up with us all now
The keeper falls asleep in the hole I become what he won't allow Because happy never hurt me at all But, misery let me down The man the floor above isn't home I go out painting the town I promise not to have a ball But, misery let me down If you see, misery Going through the things in my place Won't you do me a favor and Come invade my space I've been pretending to care Crying in the tears of a clown I promise not to put on airs But, misery let me down I'm a shell, in a cell Looking myself in the face

Me his best friend forever.

Such a cool ironic lyric. Misery let me down, as if I was expecting it not to. God he was so brilliant in the most understated and modest way.

@Billy The Kid Billy thought wrong.
this is as raw and innocent and beautiful and as authentic as music gets. it's been done before, but it's rare.
as elliott smith said himself, he is "embedded in tradition"

What a gem. But kinda like his life, it ends abruptly and long before it should have.
he suffered long enough for us

Jamming this all night during winter blues. Thanks for making me feel a lot less alone, Elliott. I wish someone had done that for you. 😥
What an insanely beautiful melody.
another hidden gem!! I hope these continue to be discovered!
Happy never hurt me at all but misery let me down
One thing i like about Smith is how i dont associate him with a genre. He's just Elliott. I like Elliott
im so happy i listened to this song within the first 24 hours of it being discovered, i had to revisit it though, its beautiful :)
Hey
👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Elliott Smith changed my life. You never let me down. :)
I love this song in so many ways. Wish there was a full track of it. =(
i don't think i'll ever hear all the Elliott Smith songs recorded. This is so good. Wish he got to finish this one.
thanks for uploading this, I was able to get the music for my own TH-cam cover of it!
A nice Lennon blade being swung. Devious
Wow, can't believe I haven't heard this. Thank you.
