When Vince first pitch his idea for a Valiant Defense game, I have to admit I was a bit hesitant. Valiant Defense is my baby, and I wanted to make sure it was treated with the utmost care. I’ve been blown away by Vince’s design, though. Now there’s no person I’m more comfortable sharing Valiant Defense with than Vince!
I wonder if the designer was inspired by the recent book on the subject. The book if you are interested is called "The Longest Winter", by Alex Kershaw. Read it last year and it not only covers this engagement but what happened to all these guys afterward.
It was one of the sources I used. It’s great for providing an overall narrative, though it gets a few of the specific details during the battle wrong. Still, highly recommended for a quick, entertaining read.
@@davidthompson7233 Definitely a vivid book. Not normally my style as I am a facts only, details guy and not the biggest fan of personal "Narrative History" but some of the descriptions in the book stuck with me. The Veteran Fallschirmjager screaming about the kids getting mowed down, the results of carpet bombing and POW camps come to mind.
That is definitely not what this game is. This series has tons of choices about what actions you have to take, how you will keep your troops fresh and fighting and what objectives or optional goals you will go for. But if you haven't played the system, I guess I can see what you are saying.
@The Last Motel, given the popularity of both the Valiant Defense Series and the States of Siege Series, I would have to say, Yes ... We do need another "Cardboard Space Invaders" game ... and another ... and another ! 😉
The art on this really is stunning, even on the counters
The Master has done it again!!! :) :) :)Thanks for the mention about Valiant Defense #5 :) :)

Nice unboxing and run through of the game. Look forwards to watching the play through.

@@MichaelCorryFilms, yea, agreed. I’m more of a research history reader, but it is a quick, engaging read for sure.
Great video Grant!
Such nicely done productions in this series, but unfortunately they never hit the table at my house.
Nils Johansson is a beast. David Thompson's ok too... :)
Cos we needed another Cardboard Space Invaders game...
