    Irish Rail/Iarnród Eireann and Malayan Railways/KTM of Malaysia has many things in common when it comes to railway standards. The most apparent similarity is the rolling stock. Both IE and KTM uses Hyundai Rotem for Intercity services. However ours in Malaysia are EMU which is called the 92 Class while in Ireland it's the DMU version called the 22000 Class. Also both can only operate up to 160 km/h due to certain limitations. While Ireland has a larger gauge of 1,600 mm (Irish broad gauge), the Hyundais cannot speed up to 200 km/h or more due to the terrain and the way the tracks are layed down during the British colonial era with tight curves. In Malaysia it's the same except our tracks are even smaller with a gauge of only 1,000 mm (meter gauge) and trains also cannot exceed 160 km/h due to the same reasons as Ireland.
    Another similarity is the signaling in which both Irish and Malaysian rail signals are identical to each other (perhaps due to the colonial British rule in the past).
    One minor difference is the identifier underneath the signal. For IE the identifier is marked on a small white sign with the abbreviation of the station followed by the signal code (example CL 153, DH 132, etc) while for Malaysia its the same except KTM adds an N or T followed by the signal code. N or T are the Malay initials for Up or Down line (example KL T3, IP N64).
    Okay just my 2 euro cents.

    Great Video , semaphores in Cork have been replaced with colour light signals and Limerick Junction has a new down platform. At 03:12 that's myself arriving with an up Cork to Dublin service. It's could be the 13:20 or 15:20 ex Cork.

      Yes the same but almost unique to Ireland, Irish gauge 5ft 3 ins is used on both Iarnrod Eireann/ Irish Rail and, up north on Translink- NI Railways. But nb on the Dublin LUAS (tram) service, standard gauge (4ft 8 1/2 ins,) is used. No need to re- bogie these since no where do the two rail systems actually intersect (tho of course LUAS red tram line links both Dublin Connolly and Dublin Heuston, outside each of those main line stations).

    Simple question: Will Ireland ever electrify its railways?

    • @shanehughes3511
      @shanehughes3511 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. There is plans for the Dart to be fully electrified in the Dublin Metro area by the early 2030s and for all national routes to be upgraded and expanded as well as totally electrified before 2040.

      @@adammaher6601 😂🤣😅 That doubling down seemed a bit desperate but okay. I actually cannot really judge on this issue. I'm just wondering why one of the richest nations in the world is obviously unable to electrify even one railway line. But maybe you are on to something here. Do they simply not want to electrify?

    Port Arlington Station - Wrong, It is Portarlington.
    Limerick Jct Station - Correct (abbreviation added?)
    Cork Station - Correct
    Cobh Station - Correct
    Glounthaune Station - Correct

    anyone notice the quick signal change at portarlington

    • @capnskiddies
      @capnskiddies 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the way they usually work. First wheel to hit the next track circuit replaces the signal to danger. The shot in Athlone is because it is/was used in shunting moves and is Last wheel replacement.

    The trains appear to have very few passengers, I guess that they must be state subsidised.

    • @fiverZ
      @fiverZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, Irish Rail is entirely state owned. About the few passengers, it depends on the time of day. At busy times people will be crammed into the carriages.
