    Another story for your listeners, if you don't mind. In 1996 I earned my living playing at various Motels in the Monterey area. One night I was doing my laundry on Del Monte Ave., and I walked across the street to a small hotel and offered to Play the Pipes for the Guest. The manager accepted and the guest filled the lobby and I played for half an hour. I will forever remember that night. I made enough in tips to pay for my laundry and have food for a couple days. Imagine getting paid for Expressing Your Soul Thru an Instrument. It was Heaven.

    Can you get and test the Henderson heritage bagpipes with a Bb flat Hardie infinity Bb flat chanter with Melvin Bb flat chanter reeds and Bb flat drone reeds ? I've been playing Henderson 120 year old set for 45 years in Bb before it was popular to. Played for president Obama twice and Clint Eastwood and many other stars in Las Vegas Nevada. I'm thinking about retiring the old Hendersons to a scottish community museum in the Smoky Mountains in Georgia and buying the Henderson heritage Celtic bagpipes with the engraved wood and set it up like I listed to you. If you could one day ,I'd really appreciate it. I listened to all your videos. Great job. Thanks, Thomas

    The Hendersons sounds incredible. The Hendersons bass cannot be beaten by any other bass. I had a set of 1916 P. Hendersons ,stamped in all of the cord guides. I've played them for 3 presidents. Mainly because I used to be a class 3 machine gun dealer and have been checked ✔️ out by local police , ATF, CIA and anyone else who has no trust in everyone. Played for president Obama and was transmitted to 163 satellites, in front of 15,000 people to boot. So 6.5 billion people saw me and I was playing a Carbony carbon fiber chanter and a Malcolm Mclaren synthetic chanter reed along with older Omega drone reeds with set screws to adjust the body and not the fiber tongue. My cousins in Scotland saw me and commented and asked how I got the drone reeds that every piper hated except me tuned. Patience! Plus having a father that was a nuclear scientist helped along with a korge tuner helped. That was the top of my piping career. I've been playing for 55 years. Grandfather's was a WWII Scottish piper. Your videos have re-inspired my piping thank you so much. BTW Mclaren synthetic reeds are expensive at $70 dollars but requires no break in time and no tuning ,I've been playing it for 10 years, just think how much money have you spent on cane reeds in 10 years ? Thank for your videos, I'm actually looking at buying a set of the R. G. Hardie twist trap practice smallpipes so I can play with a small Celtics group and not drown them out. Thanks again for your videos and I'll make a contribution to your site as soon as the government decides to pay me. Oh I'm located in Las Vegas Nevada the land with no humidity problems ever. I'm a professional piper by trade passing up a 6 figure so I can do what I love.

    Matt, have you ever tried the Original Crozier Omega Drone Reeds ? They were carbon fiber tongue and plastic body. Reed adjustments were made by grub screws on the frame at the bottom of the body and also on the top by adjustments to the tongue tension Ala grub screws also. No rubber bridles to adjust. Some pipers love 'em and some hate'em. I find that they are incredible sounding in Henderson and Robertson pipes. And some older pipes. The Pipers that hate the reeds are the ones that can't get them adjusted correctly. Grubs are great. I've had my set 12 years and adjusted them once and never again. I'm amassing a collection of them. Buying them from Pipers all over the globe, mainly ones that can't adjust them properly. Have you ever tried them ? Like 'em or hate 'em ? Oh thanks for the information on the tuner and software to download, perfect.

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a set or two come through way back in the day. They could sound quite good, but you really needed to make sure they were seated strongly into the reed seats or they'd fall out. Those suckers are HEAVY! I ultimately preferred the sound of plastic tongued tenor reeds, so I went with my Ezeedrone tenor/Balance Tone a long time ago and haven't looked back. Glad you are so passionate about these old Omegas!

    Matt. What notebook and software do you use to tune your pipes. I play a 120 year old Henderson Ebony set tuned in Bb flat with Original Omega drone reeds and a Carbony Celtic Winds Bb flat Carbon fiber chanter with Malcolm Mclaren synthetic chanter reed. Professional piper in Las Vegas Nevada. Played in the Bb flat for 15 years. Rob at Carbony Celtic Winds made the chanter as a prototype Bb flat and Malcolm Mclaren made a reed prototype to my specifications to play in the chanter. I can tune them up in the morning in 100 degree weather and play them all day long and never even touch the drones to retune them. But I am going to retire great grandfather's WWI pipes and get a set of Henderson heritage Celtic bagpipes and I really would appreciate it if you could tell me what you are using to tune your pipes on. The notebook and software looks great and precise and I really would appreciate it if you could tell me your set-up. BTW, I'm getting the Hendersons from Jeremy Downs at Lone Star Pipes. I'm at odds about my chanter too, I'm going to try the R. G. Hardie infinity Bb flat chanter but with the Maclaren synthetic reed. I'd like to see if that holds up as good as my Carbony chanter does. I have some Melvin Bb flat reeds, gonna try those. My Maclaren reed is 18 years old, but still sounds like it's new. Try that with a cane reed ! Love your videos. Really informative. Please if you can let me know what your equipment is for tuning your pipes. Email me at: weidnerthomas556@gmail.com thanks and keep on keepin on. Pipe away

    Matt, I'm wondering how a weak reed would compliment a Poly Infinity chanter against a B/W Infinity for tone.
    Also, just HOW much difference does the Infinity hole size and spacing feel against regular chanters, especially regards executing birls?
    Please share your thoughts. Thank you.

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weak reeds don't tend to sound good in any chanter, unfortunately... I think the poly and blackwood would sound great together, though I find chanters tend to sound best when the reeds are of comparable strength. As for hole size, I show the differences in my review video on the chanter here: th-cam.com/video/o6NPkWvYn14/w-d-xo.html

    • @maxwellfan55

      @@MattWillisBagpiper Thanks, I'll check out your video.
      For the record I actually use Irish made synthetic chanter reeds (fairly weak) that sound amazing in both poly and b/w pipe chanters (I know, horror-upon-horror for the traditionalists!), but that's not just my opinion.
      How they's sound in the Infinity I'll have to try, but I do like the idea of slightly smaller/closer spaced holes.
