    One thing I learned was don’t force a pass. If you find someone who is close to you in pace but only slightly slower, don’t try to pass. Stay on his tail, but don’t ride his bumper. Now you are gaining rating for close racing without risking much. If he makes a mistake you can capitalize, just don’t be too close to get caught up in it. On the flip side if someone is faster than you, when it’s safe, let them past. A position is not worth a 4x and time in the pits.

    Remember, the purpose of iRacing is to have fun. I personally hate using these techniques because I find it hard to have fun if you are just sitting behind people and being extremely cautious. I understand completely if you are just trying to get up a class because you want to do a certain series. Remember, classes aren’t everything, just go out there, race people hard, and have fun.

      well youre right and also wrong, because personally I find it really fun to air on the side of caution and then overtake people who pushed that tiny bit too hard. if I was racing really hard right behind someone, then avoiding a collision is not possible

    I just started about a month ago, so thanks for the video. I had no idea what week 13 was. Having said that, I think it’s STUPID!!! Why can’t there be a normal schedule of races? I’m waiting to get promoted from D to C but there are ZERO ranked open wheel races except for the really slow rookie class ones. If they want to wait a week before starting up the official schedule, fine but there is no reason not to have access to the same races . Why are there no Formula 4 or USF 2000 races this week? It makes no sense. I might as well play another game for a week.

    iRacing allows drivers with a higher class to race with lower class drivers? I assume that a higher class driver would have a higher IRating, so how does that matchmaking work? Isn't the whole point of classes and IRating is to groups similar drivers?

    • @willborland7137
      @willborland7137 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matchmaking (or splits as I will refer to it) are not decided on what class you are in or your safety rating, but rather your iRating. Say you are in a rookie class race, and you are B class, and have 2k iRating. You will not be out with other people that are in or around B Class, but rather people that are closest to your iRating. So you could theoretically be racing someone in Rookies while you are in A Class. You can tell where your iRating ranks in your split by which number you are. #1 has the highest iRating and #20 has the lowest. If you are #8 in a race, you should aim for that position. Obviously if you are in a C Class minimum race, you won’t be seeing any Rookies or people in D Class. I’ve seen people in A Class with 500 iRating. To sum it all up, iRacing puts you in a split with people that have similar iRating to you, not what class they are in. I’ve found it to be the best out of any sim for matchmaking.

    I’m currently in d class and trying to drop back to rookies, what the best way to do that without destroying stats? @@swolabear Might be making it up but I think in SRS for the original AC they had an incident detection system that worked pretty well. If it was flat out not your fault then you got no penalty. But sometimes you both got penalised. In the heat of the moment in those times sometimes I thought "bullshit, it was their fault" but watching replay often it turned out I could have given more room etc. Actually that might not have been SRS but just a server side app they had on most servers.
      Recently started iRacing after racing AC and ACC in the past and have been gutted by a terrible run of dirty races. Like needing a tow to pits after being caught up in a formation lap problem. Both times because someone was wiggling side to side, went on the grass and caused a pileup. You stop and wait for it to clear but people just drive into the back of you. After spending money on this bag of wank I was ready to go back to ACC, where even the worst public races aren't this bad. Glad I came across your video as I'll start from the back or the pits for a while and restore my lost safety rating. Shame you have to do this but I guess once I get out of D class hopefully things get to be as good as ACC public. And might even be better with an A licence.

    I cant get proper races. I mean, i started Iracing 3 weeks ago, im 1950 irating C class, and weither i start front or back, front i'm going to fight for positions and get incidents, on the back, stupid people do not practice and have 3/4 sec slower a lap, even when i start on IMSA from back, let 10 seconds or even start FROM PITS, i end top 7/5 BUT with more than 10 incidents most of the time. I cant resign myself to wait behind and drive like a fucking IA.
    I am very disapointed about this system because i end with only 2.9 SR on C class and i struggle to reach 4.
    I LITTERALY shot only 2 people in 60 races on braking zone, im sooo clean, i do some off tracks, depends on track(COTA atm is horrible for off tracks). I should be B class minimum atm but people are nuts. Fight like retards on 2nd lap of 45mins race, defend while they have 1 lap late...
    For me, IRacing should set up Pre Qualifying related to practice. Meaning your best time on practice is associated to your IRating to determine with who you race.
    Take my example(i dont feel im a big boss driver but i am very decent for a 3 weeks iracer):
    Last week, IMSA Road Atlanta. Pro and 6/7+k iracers where qualifying(no bmw racers, bm was so ahead) around 1.15.5. I practiced around 200 laps before my ever first race on IMSA, i was qualifiying on corvette with laps around 1.16.3/1.16.6 and doing race laps between 1.16.5 and 1.17.2. And still i was racing with RETARDS, crashing me with 1 lap late ending on 3 DNF over 8 races and 3 podiums. But on 8 races i lost 0.5 SR.
    With PRE QUALIFYING laps, it would force people to PRACTICE if they dont want to race with retards. Like in Real life, people that dont have the level, does not race at all or here, would not race with faster ones.
    If pre qualifying was associated to IR to set the splits, i feel i would have maybe a little less Irating over 3 weeks only, and i dont care about this, but i would be with FAST racers, which means alot more people that have practiced, and dont spin every 5 laps. There would be crazy people, but less than on 1500/2000 irating
