Thanks for the great work but... Why do the uniforms change? Why is the Orange Bowl in Fort Lauderdale? And 1960 really deserved an 8 team playoffs. Missouri was 9-1 and had the loss forfeited back to them due to an ineligible player. they beat Navy in the orange Bowl. Iowa was 8-1 and Big ten co-champs with Minnesota while Washington was 9-1 and beat Minnesota in the Rose Bowl.
Hold the phone! Navy in the wishbone in 1960? The wishbone didn't exist in college football until 1968, and Navy did not know what the triple option was, as it was basically only being run by Ft. Thomas High School (KY) under Coach Homer Rice. All four of these teams were predominantly wing-t teams. That's all Iowa ran then, as their coach was to the wing-t what Mike Leach is to the air raid. That Minnesota team relied on QB Sandy Stephens rolling out on run/pass options with some buck sweeps, traps, and the other major wing-t plays. Ole Miss would have easily won the real national championship in a playoff that year. Their defense gave up less than 170 yards per game against one of the toughest schedules. They probably would have shut Navy out and kept Joe Bellino contained.
thanks I requested this
How about 1970 that wasa great season thanks
