the little lick at 2:25 with the dissonant chromatic buildup and that last note @ 2:31 really just does it for me. Having lost my mother, this sequence really accurately depicts how it feels to miss her for some reason. It's like the clarinet is asking a question it don't wanna know the answer to, then the pain realizing that what it feared is the actual truth.
dude?! yes! and through some rhapsody in blue in there to boot! Thank you! killer ending. my group plays this tune, and i love how you caught me off gaurd several times through your solo and a few other well arranged/planned nuances
Yeah … when I read that, it made me go back to that weird “bubbly part” at 1:40 … I had no idea where he was going with it but was so well nuanced and it fits his airy, bubbly style. This French stuff is fun to play but hard to improv on clarinet for me. Like the whole musical language is improv energy. A great ending too.
Sydney Bechet’s autobiography (“Treat It Gentle”j speaks fondly of Paris. He described playing a series of sets working and then go home with some family and play well into the morning.
Oh man. How wonderful. Bechet led me to this video, and for sure, my fav list just added one more outstanding clarinetist, among Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, Doreen Ketchens...
I just laid down, closed my eyes and submerge myself into this celestial sounds.
One of the best clarinet sounds I've ever heard in my life!
I am glad for you, but it is also a somewhat sad statement 😉

As a clarinetist myself, how good is this? Nicest version out there.
very few can play this well as a player
Not quite in the same class but a nice effort from young kids: th-cam.com/video/uEQmP5w92pE/w-d-xo.html
