Loved this… I find all these stories very inspirational. Until last year I smoked pot everyday for 20 years and it was really messing with my mind… a few weeks ago I did my first Super Sprint triathlon and came 5th and have got another one lined up this coming weekend then another in September. When you’re in the midst of a negative addiction it can feel like there’s no escape but if you can channel that addictive personality into something positive then you can change your life for the better. Big respect to Matt & everyone else on their own journeys ✌️
Makes me think of John Joseph, a punk rock icon. Similar story of how he uses triathlon to stay physically and mentally healthy. You should interview him too.
Yeah, follow this up with a report on how he gets on with his x10 long course.
Great lad, love to see someone turn their life around.
*former alcoholic here*
I had no idea there was so many people like me who were “abusers” of their bodies and who turned to endurance, marathon or triathlon as a way to bust themselves. I found have so much in common with him on how he stated this journey if not identical
I just did my first 70.3 last week, got 2 more next year + the 2XU series. My goal in 2 years is to do a Full Ironman.
I’m still off the drink and loving endurance competition. It saved my life
Really enjoyed that …been watching Sanchez lately and seeing what those boys got up too I’m amazed they’re still here ! 😂…Pritch has given me the inspiration to get the trainers out and start running again
Pritchard is a hero
I rode 2000kms in a month for kids cancer. He was kind enough to reply and give me encouragement! Legend
Love to see a follow up. Maybe follow through training to event. Matt Pritchard was a hero to me in my younger days, looks like he is again.
Great video guys. Matt's a very similar case to John Joseph, covered by London Real. These are top-class examples, source of motivation and overcoming.
Without having the same story as Matt, i went through a similar path, and me too, triathlon (although modest) probably saved me, and it started in the middle of the lockdown, exactly a year ago.Matt's recovery is inspirational to say the least, well done man!! Thanks for the GTN team for this story 👍🤩
as a former skateboarder and drug user ( and now triathlete )i can seriously relate to his story
im happy some1 thats famous is willing to come out and share this and make it "cool" and ok to talk about the darkside that life throws at us and mold us to who we will become and overcome life hurdles i salute you sir and thnx for making such a video @global triathlon network much love and keep up the great content
Thanks for the kind feedback - we're glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Ive just found this video but if my memory serves me correct i watched this guy in dirty sanchez when i was about 10, that voice is one of a kind.
Matt is a class act. Looking forward to watching him in action at the Deca whilst I oversee the timing
Awesome!
You don't need drugs kids. It's OK to not win sports. Compete against yourself, see how you get on, and have fun. The alternative robs you of your health in the long run, and good health is your most valuable asset. Plus you'll look better on Insta 😆
@Ryan Brown lose some weight
Great video! Haven't been watching many of the GTN videos lately, but when i saw that one it was an immediate watch! Great work!
Thanks and welcome back 🙂
Great, absolutely great! You know that here in the Netherlands we have his "Dirty Vegan" show on tv for the coming weeks. And it wasn't untill today that I saw your video. Brilliantly done! What a guy!
Would love to see a follow up about how Matt is getting on in the future
He's just done a podcast with James English
He also has his YT channel, search for Matt Pritchard SWYD
Touching story. Love you, Matt!
Great story. Look forward to seeing the follow-up when he does the deca!
Btw why would anyone not like this story?? Isn't triathlon about overcoming ourselves. Being better each day?? That's exactly what Matt is doing❗
Anyway personal rant over about the 3 people who down-voted this.
We totally agree with you TheDomLouis 👍
Brilliant video, thanks for sharing, hopefully it will help anyone else who may be in a similar position.
Two years ago I woke up on the sofa after yet another night of drinking myself into oblivion in front of the telly. I felt absolutely dreadful and to make it even more shameful, I'd pissed myself. That was on the Friday. On the Saturday I attended my local Parkrun and it changed my life. Running gave me something to focus on and strive for. I'm not teetotal, but I now drink about five times a year, opposed to five times a week.
Great to see an interview with this guy. Rich Roll next ?
Great stuff. Didn't recognise him at first! How about a follow up video in a few months?
Really cool video !!
There was a full length documentary on bbc Wales a year or so ago that covered his circumnavigation of Wales, well worth a watch if you can find it.
Agreed, very good watch 🙂
Great. Triathlon is the best change maker!
100% 🙌
KING PRITCH! 👑
Top man. An inspirstion
I am only a addicted on triathlon
Its inspiered story and its similar to Polish Man who won Iron Man in USA in 1996.
He was addicted to drugs, his wife died beacuse she took too much drugs. Then a car hit him and he could't walk for months .
Then he got to center for addicts and he start to train running, swimming nad cicling .
On The end he went to America and won a Triple Ironman at '96.
It's real story

I realy recomended.💪
based on facts
The dog(?) really wanted to be in the video around 04:00
That's Lemmy.
Matt didn’t turn his life around after being shot. He got shot back in 2005.
He looks like David Beckham.
I suppose that's a better addiction. Not sure 10 is healthy though.
When it says ‘celebrity’ who is it exactly, thanks 🤷🏽♀️
