This is great! Now that we are on the music topic. What about setting up a home recording studio or how to write a song to score a short film. Like what do we need to know? I've made some songs using my accoustic and Adobe audition but I could never make it sound dramatic or epic lol. Hope that helps for a future video maybe.
Currently I'm in preproduction of my first feature film as a director. It's a indie, microbudget and small film with a really cool script and we're planning to shoot in the first months of 2019. I'm used to recording and mixing (stereo) sound for internet and television, but I could really use some tips for theater releases. Especially creating surround sound. Do you have any tips for recording on set and mixing in post?
On the next video I would like for you to announced that I won a mic and you tell me that I can stop commenting on every videos lol. On a serious note, I would like to learn more cheap diy tricks / must haves etc. Thanks for the vid!
I would like to see more Sound 101 videos like this one i learned alot and the this guy kind of reminds of Tech By Matt 😊 also i havr a Tascam Dr 40 and want to learn how to Record Foley Sound
Hey guys. I would love to see a tutorial on basic audio editing. I find myself recording audio into an audio recorder in .wav and as i have no knowlidge on how to do it, i don't process it in any way so it is like using a non edited log video. Please consider doing an Audio 101 chapter on this topic!☺
This is the topic I've been looking for. Can the next video be about how to go about doing ADR and how to train actors/best way to go about it(I can't Count how many times I wished I could do ADR, but it's too intimidating... oh great another Count pun, you should be ashamed of yourself...yeah you're right, I'm Sorin...goddamnit...)? Thank you!
Hey guys , nice little should make post sound more fun taking these ideas on board. Personally I’d like to see how you guys approach recording room tone what type of pattern microphone you’d use and if when filming outdoors on set and camera points towards actor with cars going by and then switches reverse to other actor and he’s in front of building or fountain do you take ambience facing both ways and mix in post or do you just leave in between both to cover both traffic and water or passers by footsteps etc. Capturing of clean dialogue best practices would also be nice for people to go through, using tapes, rubbers and acoustic foams, sound deadening techniques for set use, best practices for booming, cabling, best quality for longevity, maybe some tutorials on kit maintenance, how correctly coil a cable, I’ve seen some disasters out there ;) Maybe do some how to on the basics of data wrangling and the programs to use for both Mac and pc as this is an art in itself and one or two productions I’ve seen here in Ireland just used copy and paste :/ I know..... Maybe some nice tutorials on maximising and getting best results from your own products, which accessories you’d recommend from feedback you’ve receive etc. You could do some videos just On answering questions you get in on this channel and perhaps have a day dedicated to them so like every Thursday you have questions and answer day every Tuesday you have tutorial day etc etc. You could also do live steaming for this and go to events and do some interviews about new tech. Yes a new gear and gadget day :) all the best from around the world for sound industry from carts, bags, lavs etc this would I’d imagine be popular. See if you can organise group discounts for viewers obviously with a little kick back for yourselves. Adding another body in the videos is always good to keep momentum going, adding a woman always increase viewers ;) keep up the progress and good luck with channel.

Deity Microphones site looks nice, love the yellow. The vLav looks interesting, the holder for it looks decent quality reminds me of the case off my Maudio mixtrack pro portable recorder and that’s lasted me about eight years or so and still looks brand new. I actually have one of your deity VS1 microphone with its hard-case sponge and fluffy ;) it’s built to last too which is good. Innovation, consistent improvement on products coupled with excellent customer service is something I don’t see often these days however having just one of these traits great customer service in my opinion puts a company out in front, interactions with customers, helping solve problems putting out tutorials on how to use and maintain or fix problems with products would be awesome. All this takes time and effort and most wont bother the fact you guys have videos is great. As a sound recordist and boom Op and having mostly worked on zero to low film budgets I’ve worked with many types of gear, having the most expensive doesn’t make you better than someone else it’s knowing how to use them is what’s important . I can give you some nice acrylic paint but it won’t make you a painter :) there is far too much snobbery with regards equipment and in this day and age it’s a joke. Zoom introduced the F8 and stirred up a storm for many manufacturers because they had quality with certain restraints and decent solid, reliable preamps. Bluetooth built in, usb, twin Sd card slots and far more than anything in its price range all with hi-rose powering option. Nearly three years in and they still haven’t got a rival in the exact same price range for the same offerings like for like. Yes did devices started to innovate and make the premix but it’s still more expensive however they realised that there is a market for pro summer and semi and professionals who will use less expensive equipment if it’s reliable. Lighter, newer chips, faster hardware and more options to upgrade via software. Having to lay to unlock features to me is not really nice, Gh5 had that for unlocking LOG or cinelog one of them perhaps it was raw anyway it doesn’t matter, canon crippled most of their cameras when it came to video recording because the had a cine range so they made crap codecs for their dslr range, magic lantern unlocked and helped turn the 5Dmkii and iii in to a beast :). Here’s a though perhaps when you design your software you could make it open source to allow faster updates, new features, have a community who can extract everything out of whatever device you allow them too. Maybe you could make interchangeable parts or have replacement parts it’s a win win you sell more stock customer can learn new skills and fix some minor issues they may if cAused, batteries are dirt cheap li-ion is great perhaps make backs hot swappable for you mic packs. The lav you have perhaps use lithium ion instead of button cells and have a USB port to charge as you guys state on the site it’s only to figure out what’s needed and then bias from tranny will power lav. Think of Bluetooth headphones and how little power they need and they charge fine over usb. It’s common it’s cheap it’s reliable and it’s handier than buttoncells if your on set. That’s all for now as it’s sleep time for Ireland 1:07am
Your idea for lithium power in the V.Lav was considered but adding the USB port actually added to much bulk to the size of the micro-processor housing. Right now we don't actually know the battery life of the 2 button cells because well... they are only used for less than a flash. We think we can get 1500+ "power-ons" out of the 2 cells. And because of that, dedicating that much bulk to a USB port that you'd use... maybe once a year didn't seem worth it. But we did consider that which is why we did choose USB-C for our wireless kit.
