Hi thanks for the video! You said when they pair up.. I have 2 (I think adult?) angel fish and they definitely are a duo. I can’t see any nubs on either and it’s hard to tell by the dorsal fins if they are male or female...do they tend to pair off if they are mates/a couple?lol

thanks for the info. I had to do some research because one of my 2 angelfish has become too aggressive and chases the other around the tank alot. The other can give back too but is not that aggressive. When I first checked into whether I should get 2 the info said they do better in pairs, but it looks like I'll have to rehome one of them.

Question. I have an adult tricolor angelfish in a 55g denison barb tank with praecox rainbows. It mated with one of my blue zebra angelfish. Do you think the eggs are viable? Both of them are protecting the eggs and occasionally eating one, but there's a ton left. I left the light on last night because I heard if you don't they'll eat the eggs. I'm wondering if they're viable and what colors I'll get. The tricolor only has a small patch of gold on its head. The blue zebras, which are much smaller/younger are gorgeous. I wasn't prepared for this and being a community tank with a hillstream loach, golden zebra loach, lots of different types of corys and platys. I didn't think fry were possible at all. It's exciting but I'll have to give any surviving fry to my lfs.

I’m not sure if I have a male and a female, I have two carp angle fish in a 55 gal tank by themselves. Their whole life is a repeated process. First the joust for a week or two, then start cleaning their desired egg laying area for a week or two. Then it appears they both lay eggs at the same time. I can’t tell if one is laying eggs and one is fertilizing or what! They both have the tube on their underside. One is bigger than the other but the bigger one seems to be laying the eggs. I picked them because out of a very large group they were buddies, that was clear.
Is it possible I have two females? And is it possible they both lay eggs at the same time? They guard the eggs for about a week then eat them. Again their alone in a 55 gallon tank. I had two other gold type fish in there but they both died after about 4 months and I’m not sure why. One just died and then a couple weeks later the other one got dropsy, blew up like a ballon. I went and got the medicine and it started to help but then it died. Any ideas about my Angles? Thank you.

Awesome vid man. I remem the first one on this. I actually recently got 4 angels from a friend. They are all about the same size. I was wondering when do they start to form pairs? Not sure if they are adults yet. But I have noticed 1 of them seems to be rather active and fairly agressive, posibly a male? Actually removed it and put it aside for a while as he was bullying the others.

    • @MasterAquatics

Elton Veux from juvenile it can take anywhere from 6 to 10 months for a pair to form but i would get 6 to 10 angels for a good chance to get a pair.

Hi, I've taken in an angel fish from a friend, unfortunately it had killed the other angelfish that was in the tank before I got to them. I wasn't sure of the sex but she randomly laid eggs a few days ago!
Shes in an 19 gallon tank I was planning just a simple planted set up with 2 angels, I don't necessary want to bread but I'd prefer her not to attack another one I put in..should I be looking for a male?
She's very aggressive and attacking her own reflection Tbh so I'm very reserved about putting anything in with her!

the other angelfish are not aggressive, just swimming and living their lifes.
When its feeding time, they all get along,
think at some point i will see some eggs from the two aggressive ones? hope not, because i have no space for breeding

Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to figure out if my angelfish is a Male or female because I don't want fry, but I want to get my angel a friend to hang out with. I believe it's a he, but he is so lonely in my 38 gallon tank. I don't like to over crowd my tanks, and he was my first one to keep, so I wasn't 100% how big he would get. I do have 1 guppy in there with him. My guppy is a Male and tries to fight my angel, but my angel is so sweet and just ignores him. (I do plan to get more guppies but put them all in a smaller tank.) I am planning to get a 55 gallon tank soon, so my Angel's can have fun and my place is getting big, can't wait for him to get 2 feet long. :D I'm getting a pool then for him. But I want my Angel's to be the biggest in my 55 gallon because I know they are slower and more relaxed fish, I plan to had some faster moving fish in the 55 gallon with them, and then change my 38 gallon into a simple saltwater tank. (I got a lot of plans.)

@@ozzie2612 I got 2 more before he got fully grown. I upgraded everything to live plants and had a sorority of bettas in my 38 gallon. Then had like 3, 5 gallons with a betta in each one then a 10 gallon for a small school of neons. I had a room in my house just for first. Now that I’m not even 2 weeks ready to pop out my son I had to give all my fish way. They all went to very good homes. I kept 2 of my small tanks if I wanted to get back into it when my son gets older but I’m sorry, my kids come first. But I get get 8 ghost shrimp and after I gave my fish away I SWEAR I had over 500 of them. They breed like crazy! My algae was always down tho. Lol!

@@ozzie2612 the best thing I ever did was get a sorority betta fish and a fast swimming school plus the ghost shrimp. I put the shrimp in there first for them to get into place then I added the school of Harlequin Rasboras then I added my females. I had all the colors and different types of female bettas. I had to keep a close on on them for a few hours and make sure they don’t beat up on a female. They did for one so I put that one is a breeder net so they couldn’t hurt her but they got used to her and I let her out with the rest after about 3 days. She became soooo beautiful! I waited 24 hours to add a different breed of fish so everything could go right. Tried to get all my females about the same size. Then I started to feed frozen thawed food then I started my own hatchery of food. I LOVED my floated plants and found an amazing sponge filters. I went deep into the hobby. After the first pair is taken from the tank, you can notice that there can be actually more males in the tank which were acting like females...

I ordered a new one, but had to move the angelfish in a way too small tank for the time being. new stand arrived after 6 weeks- it was broken. store had to re-order it. there goes another 6 weeks. I am contemplating to get another 3 angelfishes, but I have an only 350 l fishtank (120cmx40cmx80cm), so it's only enough for 2, I think. (from what I read).

why do you call them platinum silvers? they are silvers carrying the Philippine blue gene, for them to be platinum silvers they would need to have 2 doses of the blue genes and since they are a cross between a platinum and a silver they only have 1 dose of the blue gene that they got from the platinum, now if you breed 2 of what you are calling platinum silver together (brother to sister) you will get 56.25% silver,18.75%blue silver,18.75% gold and 6.25 platinum

Ovipositor is the egg laying tube showing and females have a 90 degree lower fin and are plumper when mature, slanted diagonal lower fin male with slender body and point showing beneath when mature. Angels usually pair up when you keep a group, that's the best way to have compatible pairs. I'm amazed you call yourself a "master" and yet you say you can't tell until you see them breed and it's "pot luck"... really amateur video.

MasterAquatics has it correct marion. The methods you're stating are "theories" or at best "clues" that are not considered to be very reliable. They came about years ago when people tried to obtain a male/female pair without buying a group and letting them pair off naturally. You really don't know for sure, just as MasterAquatics has very aptly shown, until they've paired off and reproduced.

Also we wouldn't be watching the video if we knew what you mean.
Just because it's TH-cam doesn't mean you can't be professional about it.
