Bertram weather! But definitely a rough day!

Fair comment and probably a little unfair of me. I have always owned commercial vessels, where the requirements of MCA coding calls for far more substantial hatches, windows, doors etc. I am slightly sceptical of the amount of glazed areas that are exposed to potentially hazardous breaking waves on some of the vessels I have seen at sea. All said and done, its horses for courses and I would much rather spend nights sleeping on your boat than mine!
    Best wishes
    Steve

I didn’t mean to be rude saying it wasn’t rough. I would suggest choppy and uncomfortable in a planning hull vessel. Rough would require a substantial reduction of speed into a head sea.

steve hawkins Hi Steve, as you can see we were not planing, we had to significantly reduce to a speed of 6-9kts, a lot less than our cruising speed of 22kts. Bearing in mind this is a 50ft yacht I think most will agree that is enough to class it as rough.

That’s not rough! In any case these sort of boats are built for those that are more interested in appearance rather than sea keeping capabilities.

It doesn't look that rough on camera but in real life it is actually pretty rough

Video always makes the waves smaller. I had a 2007 Fairline Targa GT 47 many years ago, and it sure could take a beating in heavy seas. Went from west-coast of Norway to Shetland, also did a few trips from the west-coast of Norway to northern Norway. Inclement weather is common north of the arctic circle, even in summer. No worries with the boat. Yes, it made slamming noise, and you could hear the cuttlery rattling, but no damage occured. IMHO Fariline yatchs are built for being used, others in the same price range are just for the looks.

Considering its a near 50ft yacht and its pitching to those angles whilst going head on into the waves at 10 kts yes, yes it is rough!
