    I did one of these cars a few years ago and still have it. It has already been a great toy to own. Maybe I missed you explaining why you are building an ST replica on a targa body? Inside the front the floor pan normally rusts out and you end up replacing the two piece suspension mounts. This gives you the chance to fit the correct long nose bonnet valance sections and that would make the front wing repairs very easy while it was all out.

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi David. We are making it out of a tagra as it's a customers car and that's what he wants :)
      Yes we have most of them sections coming to us and will be covered thank you :) 👍

      I recently saw a video where a chap, allegedly a professional body guy, explained he wasn't going to cut out the rust on the bottom of a VW T3 sliding door but instead stick a repair panel right over it. Yes, stick on, he explicitly mentioned adhesive rather than welding.

    Hi. I had good success with the jp dansk panels. But that green rear number plate panel you have was a really bad fit (not anything like the original shape) ended up using a genuine porsche one. Looking forward to watching the project progress. 👍👍

  • @christopherwright1795
    @christopherwright1795 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have a little experience of Porsches this era and although they were mostly galvanised by the early 80’s , they do rust eventually , some early 80-81-82 Porsche 924’s the galvanise treatment was so strong they are very rust resistant and would probably survive the apocalypse along with cockroaches 😂 , steel is very thick too , my 1992 944 had a dent and the dent master guy said the metal was to thick for pdr , good to see full panels replacing patches , looking forward to watching this

  • @drumtochtyglen
    @drumtochtyglen ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My wild guess of costs!
    Bodywork including panels fitting and painting. At least £25,000.
    Engine and Gearbox strip, repair and rebuild and install at least £15,000.
    Interior say £4,000.
    Total at least £44k.
    At the end you get a car that looks like an 911ST but the chassis number is a Carrera some years younger.
    I guess this will take some 4 months to get everything sorted!!!
    You are being brave to do that job when there are so many bodges in the cars history!

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Eddie we don’t know about costs only our own as the car and panels are all supplied by the customer as this is not our car , we are only doing the bodywork and welding :)

    RUST has Lightened this car too make it faster 🤣🤣 the early 70s 911s were known as 'widow makers' because they would swap ends on you lightning fast next thing you are around a tree or buried in a hedge 🤣I sort of understand spending big money on a car that is a bit special, but an MX5 is almost they are everywhere and the ones i,ve seen on here have their owner a Fortune!!!!!!!!
    I hope the New parts are Good Quality, well made NOT el cheapo Taiwanese rubbish!!!!!
