Agreed, great tips! Tried the wreck cheese and didn't work so went back to just grinding it. Not gonna lie took me about 4 or 5 hours but finally. Slowly kept improving and takes awhile to get a feel for the car, when to break and when to use ram etc. There are also certain spots like the grass you suggested where its great to pass or make up time and others where I just played it safe. But I digress, thanks for the great insights!

I think the reason the race is so difficult in the original game is that they designed it using a racing wheel completely forgetting many at that time didn't have that (And even today many don't have that). I think I spent like 7-8 hours the first time before managing to win the race lol

It took me about five. Before this video I was well over fifty and couldn't win. After watching it, I still kept getting screwed by the most ridiculous random things. Even the time I won, I almost got screwed because a SIDEWAYS AI car just popped onto the track, right in front of me, after the last big banking turn before the finish.

Omg thank you I just beat it on Classic difficulty, took me about 25 tries but I got it. I didn’t even use the ram button. Big thing is when you come to a turn don’t be afraid to slow way down by tapping the breaks, I feel like the ram button would just mess me up, and cutting through the grass is a huge plus, helps you pass a lot of people each lap, and oh finally if you’re not in at least 6th place after the first lap just restart cause you’re not catching up
It works! Just follow exactly what he says, and you'll be able to manage. I was doing everything wrong before, just pressing buttons and expecting to win. Then I found this video, watched it, and started applying the tips. After a few races, I noticed I was getting better and better. From there, it was just a matter of putting everything together, and I managed to win the race. Thanks a lot, man! I'm going for that platinum!
PSA The other racers are RNG based, meaning they can sometimes all bunch up after the first turn and you basically start the race in third or you'll be lucky to be in 12th. ALSO. If you are in first place they will skip the death animations and all drivers will stay in the race! However if you get passed then the next available death spot will trigger. The race I got the trophy only one driver wrecked, and it was where the third crash normally happens on the third lap, on lap 1. Pretty interesting info that might come in handy! If youre neck and neck coming into the end maybe let him pass and die at the big speed boost wall turn. Good luck! Like I said it's RNG based basically so it'll seem impossible then you'll have what seems like a god - run.
I actually absolutely love this mission. It is hard, but once you finish it it feels so good. I also like the diversity of things you have to do in the game. This racing / driving part is just another part of that. The original one was MUCH more brutal.

I have just finished the race after 84 years... This mission drove me crazy but i got it done. I have some tips for you guys adding to this video. 1. Yes use the ram button but not too often. I used the ram button to push the second guy out in order to take second place(similar to the situation at 3:12) . And ram button can keep you car straighten out when it starts spinning. Make sure to slow down (tap tap tap the brake) before hit the ram to turn. 2. if you are on the 5th or 6th place. Keep driving. Maybe there's a chance that the second scripted car crash accidently stops other cars in front of you. 3. If you are on the last lap, you should be at 2-3 place. Otherwise, it's gonna be tough. But if you drive through the grass, it might increase the chance of getting to 3-4 place. 4. The first turn is CRUCIAL. Especially, on the last lap. On the last lap, I was at 4th place, I managed to slow down (keep tapping the brake or slightly long holding down the brake. NOT TOO LONG, depends on the speed to you are on) and turned and cut through the grass which led me to 3rd place. 5. If you are at second place on the last lap, you ARE WINNING, the win is in your hand. ALL you have to do is calm down and focus. DO NOT LOOK BACK (It';s gonna distract you and give you more anxiety). Drive carefully and the third scripted car crash will eliminate itself and you ll be at the 1st place. 6. Learning the tracks will give you the "feel" of the race without thinking too much because following exactly what the video showing might reduce your flexibility. Each time you restart might be different. Feel the track, feel the turns, feel the car. 7. Easy on gas. You might be angry at some point and press the gas HARRDDDDDDD which leads to crash and spinning. Yes I was like that. So stay calm and cool. At some turns, tap on the brake and tap on the gas. You might be able to gliding through the grass. I hope this help you guys, I know it's long but you will make it.

I heard rumors that this race kicked a lot of people's asses. Once I got here, I was pulling my hair out trying to beat this damn thing. I couldn't even get to first place, much less stay there. But after this video and the tips provided, beat it on classic first try! Thank you so much!
I cut the grass as soon as I saw it! it helped me gaining places in the first lap and time in the others, same for using other vehicles to slow down at turn 1, you also can cut a little bit the chicane but there is only one line to use and if you miss her your car will go airplane I think many of us would like a video about getting rid of the turret cuz there is no easy way to achieve that! it took me a good amount of time the first time I tried it in the definitive edition
Within half an hour of watching this video, I finished the race. Some key tips: no need to use A all that much and tapping the break button is what really helped me out. THANK YOU!
I was wondering why the other cars was faster than mine until I randomly switch the transmission from manual to automatic and now I suddenly zoom past everyone and won the race LMAO
Took me a few tries in classic difficulty. Maybe 1hr and a half or so. I just knew that mafia 2 has different car mechanics than what i’m used to (GTA V) and so i had i to expect Mafia 1 is too, maybe much harder so i did. Tip: 1. Don’t speed up in curves, try to think realistically. Would you speed up in real life when there’s a hard turn? Brake as hard as you can if you’re approaching a curve and you’re on full speed. 2. Do not rush, even if you’re second, if it’s still second lap heck maybe last lap, the first place will crash. Eventually, one of the cars ahead of you will crash, one way or another. 3. Remember to ram them ahead of you. 4. Try to take advantage of em. In the finish line, there is a very hard turn to the left ahead right? After that, try to surpass atleast one or two maybe three cars by going to the grass making a little shortcut. Grass don’t make you slower, just be careful when turning. USE BRAKES! Or just don’t accelerate and just turn.. Lastly, Repeat and get used to the mechanics of the game! 😊

THIS VIDEO ABSOLUTELY WORKS. In case you want a short summary, I suggest treating this race like a legit racing video game where you have to compensate for turns coming up by slowing down as much as you can, not making contact with other cars and treating the RAM button like a stabilizer while your tap/press the brake button at the same time so you drift into corners. Doing all that made me go from always last to just taking three tries.
Thanks for guide man, I recently got into Mafia since it released on game pass. Your tips about the ramming and cutting through the grass were the best ones. Suffered a few hours but got it done. I’m on 1st play through on classic so I was thrown to the sharks with this race. Can’t wait to continue the rest of the story. To anyone struggling with this persistence is key. You honestly have to get lucky. I’m glad I stuck with it.
I beat that race mission on classic difficulty, had to restart 5 times, but i manage to beat it and the whole game in classic plus got all achievements, am glad i played the whole game and enjoyed every minute of it.

I just finally finished the race in 1st after a 4 year hiatus. I was one of those who deleted the game after multiple attempts at trying to win the race, but after your tips, I finally won it. Thanx.
Side note, DO NOT PRESS RAM while you’re steering. Only do it when your left stick is centered. If you do it while steering, at least on classic difficulty, the physics take a high dive into a flaming dumpster and you’ll somehow end up going sideways flat into a wall.
I got bored so i decided to do the platinum and oh my god this got me so frustrated on classic mode. I swear at some points i was just disassociating during my probably 50+ attempts lmao. The ramming method really helped a lot too I wouldn’t have done it if i didn’t watch this guide. Thank you !!! It took me about 7-8 hours total for just this so i’m glad i’m over it now 😭
so fun fact the game was a antique racing game and the publishers said it wouldn't sell, so they went back and made it into the Mafia we all know and love, but wanted to at least keep one race in it .... why it feels so out of place

When you mess up and restart checkpoint that takes forever giving you more time to pull your hair out while you put the controller down. Ive played and beaten very hard games in my time but this is on another level.

When I was going for the platinum I was horrified for this race as most trophy guides made it seem like it was going to be a chore to come in first. When I finally made it to the race mission I just used the ram mechanic to perform tighter turns and I won after only one try and finished way before the person in second place

It's the way the car unpredictably spins out on the simple corners, then the straight up AUDACITY of the AI to call you an amateur as the drive past.
That shit was pissing me off lmao. I just won the race after a couple hrs of attempting.

I remember playing mafia 20 years ago, there was a shortcut within the first thirds of the Lap and was very helpfull...
They patched that in the original though.

I have just finished the race after 84 years... This mission drove me crazy but i got it done. I have some tips for you guys adding to this video.
1. Yes use the ram button but not too often. I used the ram button to push the second guy out in order to take second place(similar to the situation at 3:12) . And ram button can keep you car straighten out when it starts spinning. Make sure to slow down (tap tap tap the brake) before hit the ram to turn.
2. if you are on the 5th or 6th place. Keep driving. Maybe there's a chance that the second scripted car crash accidently stops other cars in front of you.
3. If you are on the last lap, you should be at 2-3 place. Otherwise, it's gonna be tough. But if you drive through the grass, it might increase the chance of getting to 3-4 place.
4. The first turn is CRUCIAL. Especially, on the last lap. On the last lap, I was at 4th place, I managed to slow down (keep tapping the brake or slightly long holding down the brake. NOT TOO LONG, depends on the speed to you are on) and turned and cut through the grass which led me to 3rd place.
5. If you are at second place on the last lap, you ARE WINNING, the win is in your hand. ALL you have to do is calm down and focus. DO NOT LOOK BACK (It';s gonna distract you and give you more anxiety). Drive carefully and the third scripted car crash will eliminate itself and you ll be at the 1st place.
6. Learning the tracks will give you the "feel" of the race without thinking too much because following exactly what the video showing might reduce your flexibility. Each time you restart might be different. Feel the track, feel the turns, feel the car.
7. Easy on gas. You might be angry at some point and press the gas HARRDDDDDDD which leads to crash and spinning. Yes I was like that. So stay calm and cool. At some turns, tap on the brake and tap on the gas. You might be able to gliding through the grass.

I heard rumors that this race kicked a lot of people's asses. Once I got here, I was pulling my hair out trying to beat this damn thing. I couldn't even get to first place, much less stay there. But after this video and the tips provided, beat it on classic first try! Thank you so much!

I cut the grass as soon as I saw it! it helped me gaining places in the first lap and time in the others, same for using other vehicles to slow down at turn 1, you also can cut a little bit the chicane but there is only one line to use and if you miss her your car will go airplane
I think many of us would like a video about getting rid of the turret cuz there is no easy way to achieve that! it took me a good amount of time the first time I tried it in the definitive edition

Was trying for like 6 hours, even quit for a few hours, first vid I found and omg it worked, thankyou so much
Took me a few tries in classic difficulty. Maybe 1hr and a half or so. I just knew that mafia 2 has different car mechanics than what i’m used to (GTA V) and so i had i to expect Mafia 1 is too, maybe much harder so i did.
Tip: 1. Don’t speed up in curves, try to think realistically. Would you speed up in real life when there’s a hard turn? Brake as hard as you can if you’re approaching a curve and you’re on full speed.
2. Do not rush, even if you’re second, if it’s still second lap heck maybe last lap, the first place will crash. Eventually, one of the cars ahead of you will crash, one way or another.
3. Remember to ram them ahead of you.
4. Try to take advantage of em. In the finish line, there is a very hard turn to the left ahead right? After that, try to surpass atleast one or two maybe three cars by going to the grass making a little shortcut. Grass don’t make you slower, just be careful when turning. USE BRAKES! Or just don’t accelerate and just turn..
Lastly, Repeat and get used to the mechanics of the game! 😊

THIS VIDEO ABSOLUTELY WORKS. In case you want a short summary, I suggest treating this race like a legit racing video game where you have to compensate for turns coming up by slowing down as much as you can, not making contact with other cars and treating the RAM button like a stabilizer while your tap/press the brake button at the same time so you drift into corners. Doing all that made me go from always last to just taking three tries.

Thanks for guide man, I recently got into Mafia since it released on game pass. Your tips about the ramming and cutting through the grass were the best ones. Suffered a few hours but got it done. I’m on 1st play through on classic so I was thrown to the sharks with this race. Can’t wait to continue the rest of the story. To anyone struggling with this persistence is key. You honestly have to get lucky. I’m glad I stuck with it.

I beat that race mission on classic difficulty, had to restart 5 times, but i manage to beat it and the whole game in classic plus got all achievements, am glad i played the whole game and enjoyed every minute of it.

I just finally finished the race in 1st after a 4 year hiatus. I was one of those who deleted the game after multiple attempts at trying to win the race, but after your tips, I finally won it. Thanx.

Side note, DO NOT PRESS RAM while you’re steering. Only do it when your left stick is centered. If you do it while steering, at least on classic difficulty, the physics take a high dive into a flaming dumpster and you’ll somehow end up going sideways flat into a wall.
I got bored so i decided to do the platinum and oh my god this got me so frustrated on classic mode. I swear at some points i was just disassociating during my probably 50+ attempts lmao. The ramming method really helped a lot too I wouldn’t have done it if i didn’t watch this guide. Thank you !!! It took me about 7-8 hours total for just this so i’m glad i’m over it now 😭
Whoever had the idea of putting racing missions in essentially, what is a third person shooter must have been on something
so fun fact the game was a antique racing game and the publishers said it wouldn't sell, so they went back and made it into the Mafia we all know and love, but wanted to at least keep one race in it .... why it feels so out of place

Nice tips and thanks but im finding this impossible lol. Need to beat the classic playthrough for the platinum but no platinum is worth this shit! When you mess up and restart checkpoint that takes forever giving you more time to pull your hair out while you put the controller down. Ive played and beaten very hard games in my time but this is on another level.

I always turn on the limiter before the first turn, so I can easily slow down myself and make the turn without spinning

When I was going for the platinum I was horrified for this race as most trophy guides made it seem like it was going to be a chore to come in first. When I finally made it to the race mission I just used the ram mechanic to perform tighter turns and I won after only one try and finished way before the person in second place
