    they leak multiple gasket changes because the egr valves get clogged and it builds pressure and starts leaking from everywhere. took me years to figure it out but that is the secret to the valve cover leak issues and half moon chain tensioner gaskets. good vid thanks

      So what causes the EGR valves to clog? I found some valves were clogged so i ran a cycle of diesel fuel thru the system to clean it out. It worked pretty good.

    Thanks for video. I'm about to replace my 99 A6 timing belt and the cam tensioner gaskets also.
    I purchased the tool from sears and now see how to connect it to the tensioner.

    Yes this engine did have some sludge build up but I also had an engine fire which is why you see the burnt sections. The engine/car were totaled which is why I had an extra head and parts to shoot this video.

    A year late but this is an AKB engine from a 2000 A8. I just did the pass side on my D3, basically the same engine. You can do that one by just removing the top camshaft, not both.

    Is it typical for the cams to look so scorched with burnt oil on them? If you have them out is it worth the time to brush them down and clean them up? Also is that and indication that there is an engine sludge problem?

    Thank you for your usefull advice I installed the cam chain tensiner and after installation the chian is very thight. I think too tight. I just released the tool and the chain became tight. I don't want to run it like this and I am considering to take it out again. Any thoughts why? The car ran fine before (no noise etc).

    Do you have to prime the new tensioner like put it in oil and pump all the air out ? The reason I ask is I just did a head gasket and when I had my tensioner out I accidentally compressed it and now it seems like my markes are a hair off but it runs fine and I'm getting a code for the cam alignment

    I got the camshaft sprocket off and got the crankshaft locking tool in. Can I go ahead to do the valve kit , taking cam cap off ? As long I put them back the same, everything should be ok?

    hi,tnx for posting this video..i think im struggeling with the same issue..i recently received my car from the shop and suddenly the red oil light went on, and when i stopped,there was a quite loud rattle noise coming from engine room, i checked the oil level and it was fine and no oil leak was found either. So its probably the tensioner or what do you think?

    so I have a report from my dealer ship telling me I have an oil leak at valve cover gaskets and cam tensioner seals. I already changed the valve cover gaskets. Now for the cam tensioner seals Im assuming they're refering to the half moon gasket and the other gasket under the tensioner. now inorder to get to those (correct me if im wrong) I'll need to mess with the timing belts and dislocate the whole part. how do i lock the timing. or can I replace them while haveing the part still instaled

    Is it possible to remove the tensioner on the driver side head with out disturbing the timing belt cam if i take the other cam completely out? or is it too tight to get it out? I just had the timing belt done and would rather not tear it all apart again to reset the timing belt.

    I owned a 99 vw passat v6, & my camshaft chain broke on the driverside it also broke the valve cover., is it possible that my motor is still good? and if it is how would i know? what would b the best thing to do?

    • @sergiesavonik750
      @sergiesavonik750 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      you have to do a engine compression check on the driver side. if you are getting less then 90-100ps pressure, your engine is bad. also do that to the other side.

    No matter where I read or watch, no one mentions the timing, any timing marks or whatever. Locking your crank is nice and all, but you can't just put the camshafts in there however you like relative to the crank OR each other. The timing down to one tooth must be right.

    • @everyladiesfantasy1730
      @everyladiesfantasy1730 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry for my dumb question but if I mark the chain with the cams do I still gotta set it to time before removing the timing chain? as long as I put everything back the same should be good no?

    • @GERntleMAN
      @GERntleMAN ปีที่แล้ว

      @@everyladiesfantasy1730 If you use the same chain, it is likely to be okay. Still your chain lengthens over time and your timing will be off, if you don't set up all your timings.
