btw I'm legitimately terrified of the play line MH dolls. I don't see how much quality they are willing to provide for let's say $25-$35. To me the collector dolls set the bar quite low for quality and if they start taking away things to make them more affordable and mass produced then what are we going to be left with? I hope people at Mattel have been taking a closer look at the community these days and really absorbing all of the feedback.
Re: the profit margins, that's what I always have assumed. MGA is a privately owned company (Isaac owns 82%, Larian family owns the other 18%) which means they don't have shareholders to answer to as to why their dolls don't make more money, as compared to Mattel which is a public company and therefore needs to increase profitability by any means necessary.
I hope it stays that way!!! I’m living for this quality lols one of my fav doll lines I’d be so sad if their quality started dropping drastically… I feel like the fact that they’re privately owned also plays into how diverse their lines are. So many skin tones and hairstyles and they just keep getting better! When I explained to some of my classmates that all four of the first series of omg fashion dolls where non white they were all genuinely surprised because stuff like that never happens with mainstream doll lines, it’s so great!
My roommate who doesn’t know a ton about dolls got Gracie for me for Christmas and was shocked about how good of quality she is, especially on that scale. I think they said even the coworker they went to the store with was impressed... I hope we get to see more tweens, they’re so cute👏🏻
these and Rh series 3 are some of the best dolls to have come out in recent years. After the dark age of dolls with the reboots low quality Barbies etc, mga is stepping up their game and releasing dolls that are so worth buying

I LOVE these dolls! And it's not like you're getting less in quality or items than the OMGs other than for some an extra outfit and the size, which I enjoy because they take up less space. When I hold these dolls they don't feel cheap. Nothing about them makes me question their value vs their quality. This MH release has made me really see the true colors of some of the people especially on this platform. Just condescending off-hand comments and such. Thank you for being awesome.
AUSTRALIA has made the tweens $40 which is. More expensive than some regular OMGS who retail for around $35, some OMGS even go up to $60 :/ including rh too
Cherry BB sits closest to me on the shelf by my bed. I kept glancing over at her during this review. I was into MH and the new dolls are nice, but I will not pay that much for any of them. It makes me want to put my original dolls back on display more than anything, and I can admire them for free.
I think the tweens line is great especially series 2. I too am deeply upset they aren't btw. I also think it would be cool for display purposes that they would look good with the omg dolls but they are shorter so they don't fully block the other dolls As for price and quality I think MGA is trying to straddle the line between collector and high end play line market. You can see it in choices like the articulation, details, and doll stands. But then with the lol line specifically the packaging is always some kind of play set so I see the value as a parent. I feel like their decisions as a company are made around having a a broader market. Which is honestly a difficult way to run a business. I feel Mattel is the opposite. It's very this is your play barbie and this is your designer barbie. I feel like it tries to leverage the brand name as much as possible for its dolls. People also pointed out the fact that Mattel is public and MGA is not so there is a share holder thing. I'd also not put it past the pettiness of rich people. If barbie is being known for low quality at its price I'd much sooner belive MGA's profit margin is about bad blood than an honest desire from the goodness of their heart to give quality.
Your so right about the lol OMG tweens. They are PHENOMENAL dolls! I bought one the other week, gracie skates, and she is super duper adorable and incredibly well made and the price is spot on for a average collector budget. I want all 8 dolls. They have that exaggerated, cartoonish highly stylized look that I find irresistible! It's almost magical for me. The aesthetics of these dolls is like a spell! Like ritualistic voo doo, but with a pop culture flavor and style! Thank's for reviewing these dolls they deserve a focus and feature about them. They are so AMAZING!!! Thanks again!
I agree these are so precious...especially for someone short on space. I really love this size of doll. The failfix ones are slightly bigger than these and they are a favorite of mine also. Love the review!
cherry bb actually also has a purse that comes in a compartment in her bed, so I think you missed that. also, in my area they’ve been doing really well. around launch there were SO MANY and now some of the characters are gone, and that was happening with the first series too. I’m hoping that means good things for this brand. I love them so much!
Last year my daughter & I made a top 5 dolls for 2021 (our other picks were Dreamseekers, B kind dolls, Lalaloopsy littles and series 3 RH - - Daphne) and we actually picked Tweens Lexi Gurl over any omg dolls. Now of course in 2022 I do really love Skatepark QT. I’m bummed Junior High RH is $25 a doll. I was lucky enough to buy Tweens at Target when it was buy 2 get 1 free we have all 8. 👍👍👍 I’m so ready for sales or Target toy coupons with all these new releases- I haven’t bought any series 2 glam Na Na Na only bought 1 Sweetest Hearts. Still need rainbow high Rockstars, Pacific Coast and Lily. Omg Trendsetter & Queens. I just can’t keep up anymore. I’ve actually just be hunting for sales on dolls I don’t have that aren’t new like I got series 2 teen Parker for only $12 on Target.
These tweens are freaking amazing...the quality is superior and the price point is amazing. From my prospective every person I have seen unbox these are blown away and obsessed. These dolls always sell out at my local Target so I think that says something. I dont know why it hurts me to say this but I think the quality in these dolls is better than the MH dolls that were just released. I still want to get the MH dolls but yeah I just didnt see the justification for the price point and have come to terms that they are banking on people buying them for nostalgic reasons. Anyhoo I think the tweens have breathed new life into the OMG line and I hope MGA continue to do more. I would love to see a tween candylicious and I would love to see an OMG Aya Cherry.
They fit so perfectly in the kitty cat camper! The tweenz have some of the most detailed outfits of any smaller doll out there. I even find the faces adorable in a way that I don’t with the larger OMGs. Definitely get what you mean that you have to hold them in your own hands to get the full experience. They’re honestly my favorite out of all the OMG line. I’ve been trying to buy extras whenever I find one on a steep clearance because the. I can make customs of them so I have even more of the tweenz! For the clothes for the customs, I found that some Bratz pieces fit on them, and also looked for other miniature sized clothes for smaller BJD dolls or Obitsu 12 figurines. Both of those tend to be pricy for the clothes if you’re buying things from more official companies, but I’ve been able to source a lot of great, detailed pieces hunting on Etsy and Amazon from smaller sellers.
I adore these Tweens. But then I'm crazy about the OMGs. I don't really care for RH! I've only gotten 2, Daphne Minton and Robin Sterling. Cherry is definitely 1950s through and through. Her bedroom has a "mid century modern" design vibe. In the 1950s, boys would let their gfs wear their varsity jackets. High ponytails were the fashion for kids and teens, with shorter curled bangs.
I don't like the LOL OMG faces, but for some reason it works soooo well on the Tweens. They're super cute! I wish I had more money to throw at dolls, there's so many I want so badly!
I'm with you there. I realized that I don't like the weird pout/smirk thing that occurs with the OMG face mold but it isn't a thing on the BTW face which makes me like them so much more. I think the little teeth on the BTWs are also a cute touch.

These are cute: Cherry BB is my favourite. They are $30 in Canada, vs $45 for the new Queens line, so that is the same proportional price difference. The OMGs seem to be more plentiful, though, and actually get marked down. I absolutely don’t need more dolls, but I might get one because i would like to have a representation from the line.
I have a feeling that the reason at first edition in first release as BTW is being limited edition - the “rare version”. I have noticed both BTW and Tweens …in my collection that there is the differences they have is letter BTW on composition notebook, the boxes with BTW on it including on the clothing on their shirt or jacket. They are rare. I managed to buy complete BTW first series being keep inbox-unopened as part of my collection. You know every first time ever released dolls usually came out with tiny variations just like I have in my Bratz collection with no details and details clothing. Same with these BTW dolls that has rare BTW logo. Happy collecting!

I just bought Lexi Gurl the other day to complete my series 2 making me have i have 8 tween dolls, I wonder if series 3 will make me go out and buy all four againnnn, they’re just awesome at in my opinion
There are still tons of Series 1 on the shelves at Walmart Canada at full price but series 2 has clearanced! So shocked. They started stocking series 2 late Dec 2021 and early Jan 2022 and now in April 2022 series 2 is clearanced but series 1 is still stocked. I feel they just have a lot of series 1 product from Christmas that didn’t sell. I think series 2 just had their initial stock in Canada and that’s it. No restock. :( I don’t own any of series 1 not really a fan. I like series 2. I got Aya Cherry, Lexi Gurl, and Gracie Skates for $15 CAD each, so like ~ $12 usd.

I recently got Aya Cherry and after looking at her and all her clothes and acessories, I can see your point. For a mini doll, she is seriously impressive for only $20. And with the Monster High pricing problem, I am definately scared for what their idea of $25 doll quality is if even their overpriced, $80 collector dolls cannot measure up to Rainbow High or LOL OMG in clothing quality. And I started my collection with Monster High, but I have been unable to continue that part of my collection due to how overpriced and difficult they are to find in person on the secondhand market and how insanely overpriced they are becoming. I love Monster High and it is very nostalgic for me, but I refuse to pay scalper prices for dolls that don't deliver on the quality you expect from their price point.
Personally I’m like a monster high Stan that’s all I really like but yes the prices are high and does not give us the best idea for the play line but no one has even mentioned that maybe these collector dolls are to help put more funding into the brand as don’t know if it’s just me but barbie is getting better quality slowly so that may be the reason for the price increase and really this is the last chance for the brand to comeback otherwise it’s gone it’s on a thin slice of ice
Also the price increases that we are seeing now have more to do wuth covid delays and stuff then the products that were released during the beginning of covid, if you think of the timeline alot of the products released during the start to mid of covid wouldve been in production before there were any issues, now that people are being vaxxed and govs are getting a handle on covid the products releasing now wouldve started manufacturing at the height of delays and high manufacturing costs. TL:DR the stuff thats releasing now his higher price cos they were being made in the height of covid mess which probably means that the profit margins are the same
Shipping is more expensive than ever currently. That doesn’t explain the price discrepancies we’re seeing now that we didn’t see at all one year ago or even two years ago at the start unfortunately.
The Tweens are higher quality than MH Haunt Couture, at a fraction of the price, and accessible to people of all financial demographics and countries. Yeah.

This is why I am so disappointed by the jr rainbow high. Their outfit is so much simpler then this line yet they cost $26. We don’t get any accessories. (Beside the one bag which this line does have) and clothing are really simple. I feel like rainbow high in general is more expensive then lol line but we get less. (this is just an opinion)

L.O.L. have such amazing designs, but the same old face is getting boring, for me atleast. Like with Bratz they could do so many different faceups on the same 2 molds, L.O.L. have the same eyeshap and lips..

The Tweens have been sooo tempting tho and feel a little more expressive? I don't know if there's actually that much of a difference in the face molds since I don't have one to compare...?

The tweens have a marginally different face and more blushing which makes them way cuter

These are cute: Cherry BB is my favourite. They are $30 in Canada, vs $45 for the new Queens line, so that is the same proportional price difference. The OMGs seem to be more plentiful, though, and actually get marked down. I absolutely don’t need more dolls, but I might get one because i would like to have a representation from the line.
Series 2 is weirdly $25 on Amazon right now.

I have a feeling that the reason at first edition in first release as BTW is being limited edition - the “rare version”. I have noticed both BTW and Tweens …in my collection that there is the differences they have is letter BTW on composition notebook, the boxes with BTW on it including on the clothing on their shirt or jacket. They are rare. I managed to buy complete BTW first series being keep inbox-unopened as part of my collection. You know every first time ever released dolls usually came out with tiny variations just like I have in my Bratz collection with no details and details clothing. Same with these BTW dolls that has rare BTW logo. Happy collecting!

I just bought Lexi Gurl the other day to complete my series 2 making me have i have 8 tween dolls, I wonder if series 3 will make me go out and buy all four againnnn, they’re just awesome at in my opinion

There are still tons of Series 1 on the shelves at Walmart Canada at full price but series 2 has clearanced! So shocked. They started stocking series 2 late Dec 2021 and early Jan 2022 and now in April 2022 series 2 is clearanced but series 1 is still stocked. I feel they just have a lot of series 1 product from Christmas that didn’t sell. I think series 2 just had their initial stock in Canada and that’s it. No restock. :( I don’t own any of series 1 not really a fan. I like series 2. I got Aya Cherry, Lexi Gurl, and Gracie Skates for $15 CAD each, so like ~ $12 usd.

I recently got Aya Cherry and after looking at her and all her clothes and acessories, I can see your point. For a mini doll, she is seriously impressive for only $20. And with the Monster High pricing problem, I am definately scared for what their idea of $25 doll quality is if even their overpriced, $80 collector dolls cannot measure up to Rainbow High or LOL OMG in clothing quality. And I started my collection with Monster High, but I have been unable to continue that part of my collection due to how overpriced and difficult they are to find in person on the secondhand market and how insanely overpriced they are becoming. I love Monster High and it is very nostalgic for me, but I refuse to pay scalper prices for dolls that don't deliver on the quality you expect from their price point.

Personally I’m like a monster high Stan that’s all I really like but yes the prices are high and does not give us the best idea for the play line but no one has even mentioned that maybe these collector dolls are to help put more funding into the brand as don’t know if it’s just me but barbie is getting better quality slowly so that may be the reason for the price increase and really this is the last chance for the brand to comeback otherwise it’s gone it’s on a thin slice of ice
Also the price increases that we are seeing now have more to do wuth covid delays and stuff then the products that were released during the beginning of covid, if you think of the timeline alot of the products released during the start to mid of covid wouldve been in production before there were any issues, now that people are being vaxxed and govs are getting a handle on covid the products releasing now wouldve started manufacturing at the height of delays and high manufacturing costs. TL:DR the stuff thats releasing now his higher price cos they were being made in the height of covid mess which probably means that the profit margins are the same
Shipping is more expensive than ever currently. That doesn’t explain the price discrepancies we’re seeing now that we didn’t see at all one year ago or even two years ago at the start unfortunately.

This is why I am so disappointed by the jr rainbow high. Their outfit is so much simpler then this line yet they cost $26. We don’t get any accessories. (Beside the one bag which this line does have) and clothing are really simple. I feel like rainbow high in general is more expensive then lol line but we get less. (this is just an opinion)

L.O.L. have such amazing designs, but the same old face is getting boring, for me atleast. Like with Bratz they could do so many different faceups on the same 2 molds, L.O.L. have the same eyeshap and lips..
