  • Adding another DIY video to the library, this time another Apple CarPlay installation into a Porsche CDR-31 unit. My previous videos have focused on the PCM 3.1 / 4.0. This job is overall very similar, but the work you have to do on the PCM unit itself is very different. In this video I take you STEP-BY-STEP through the job, with an added bonus - a DIY Back-Up Camera segment too.

    Very well made tutorial! One enhancement suggestion: you might want to consider using something like Tessa tape (a fabric tape used for wiring harnesses) on the long camera wire, so it doesn’t vibrate or rattle against the plastic body panels on its labyrinthine journey between the back of the car and the head unit.

    Hi and hello from Germany,
    again a nice made video and easy to understand.
    I have an 997/2 Carrera S from Sept./2009.
    I would also like to install the module for Android Auto/Apple Carplay.
    I heard somewhere, I need additionally an AUX in module ???
    Is the system you offer complete, or is more needed?
    Are there any error messages in the car's ECU? In the German Porsche forum you read something like this.
    Thanks for a short feedback.

    I have a 981 Boxster, and like what you have shown and sell. My question is routing the cable from the backup cam, is that as seemless as in the 991? Obviously I don't have a backseat and have a convertible top in the way, have you done a Boxster (Cayman would be a piece of cake). I understand how the rear camera works ie when you select reverse, however if I decided to select a 2 camera option having a front camera how does that work ie when does it come on and when does it shut off. Obviously I only want it for parking maneuvers

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Yes, there are a couple of ways to run the cable into the cabin in a Boxster or Cayman. I can help you virtually when you do the job, no worries.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The front camera gets triggered only when you come out of the reverse shifter position. It automatically comes on for 10 seconds and then shuts off again. It's all automated by the JoyeAuto box.

    How is the audio quality of this option coupled to a CDR31 without Bose? As a new owner i am appalled at the crappy sound quality of the FM, however when playing a CD it is ok; when playing from my iphone via stereo Aux port it is also pretty crappy. Surprised that Porsche put in such a sub standard entertainment unit. Was looking to put in a PCM (some for sale on Ebay) but I think that will pose lots of challenges as it is not as simple as plug and play as the ports are different

    Is it impossible to run the camera without removing the rear bumper?
    Can the top engine covers not be removed then using a snake try and run the wire down or up behind the bumper? I haven't really looked or attempted mine yet but I'd love to avoid taking off the rear bumper if I didn't absolutely have to. Thanks

  • @Unnus
    @Unnus ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great! For these Natika cameras, do you need to do anything with the + or ground wires near the molex connector that connects to the camera? Or just hook the trigger wire up to the JoyeAuto and thats it?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  ปีที่แล้ว

      No ground wire needed. Just hook it up to the JoyeAuto and you’re good!

    Great video!
    What is the audio quality with the bluetooth audio?
    Is there a wired CarPlay option and would that give better sound quality?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  ปีที่แล้ว

      The bluetooth audio is actually really good. It's not as crisp as the PCM bluetooth, but to the untrained ear I don't think anyone would notice. You do have the ability to connect your iPhone or Android phone via a provided USB cable. The quality is a little better via that route though, yes.

    Does the 991.2 come with CarPlay and a back up camera? I know it comes with CarPlay but idk about a backup camera. I’ve been thinking about getting a 991.1 turbo but I want all the looks like the rear end/ tail lights and the steering wheel. And convenience of the 991.2. Just weighing all the options but thinking it might be better to just go 991.2

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The 991.2 comes with wired CarPlay. You need to buy a USB adapter to make it wireless (I sell them!). In the U.S., all cars after 2015/16 must come with a back up camera by law so yes, in the U.S. all 991.2s should have back up cams. I don’t know about the rest of the world though.

      @@AutoAmateur The CDR-31 already has an external box that goes behind (with the display flex cable), so there was no space for the larger box with the computes module.
      Thanks for the relply.
      I ended up placing mine double-side taped above the driver’s footwell on the inside of the dash space between the steering column column and division for the CDR unit / center part of the dash). The compromise is that it didn’t have enough clearance to connect the USB cable.

  • @dale2thman200
    @dale2thman200 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does this unit stay in CarPlay mode when the ignition is switched of and on again, or does it default to standard CDR31 mode each time the ignition is switched off and on?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  ปีที่แล้ว

      It works just like the PCM. Whatever mode is on when you turn off the ignition will return automatically when you turn the car back on. The only snag is that it can sometimes take up to 30 seconds for CarPlay to come back, so just be patient.

      I can’t take it back there since I moved out of state. :(
      It gets to that JoyEAuto screen and everything is greyed out (CarPlay, Android Auto, USB) except Setup. But Setup is not clickable with a finger and even the knob on the PCM doesn’t work to select it.

      @@AutoAmateur I'm in same boat as @lemurtails with regard to greyed out buttons except Setup but I can access the setup page. You'd previously pointed me in the direction of calibrating the touchscreen so now it's just about why are the buttons greyed out.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-wd6ep8oy4x the buttons being greyed out on the home screen of the JoyeAuto menu means your CarPlay connection is not currently active, but it doesn't mean your phone isn't connected. If you can get into settings, go to Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned on, checked Paired Devices to make sure your phone is listed there and if it isn't, go back a menu level to select the option to connect a new device. As you're doing that, go to your phone's Bluetooth menu and make sure you're connected to the JoyeAuto bluetooth network connection. You should be taken through the typical pairing prompts... 1. Do you want to pair with this device? 2. Do you want to sync your favorite lists? 3. Do you want to use JoyeAuto / idCore as wireless Apple CarPlay...? You need to select yes for all of these prompts on your phone.
