Back in 1988 i did an electronics course at college, and built my own KITT scanner including the electronic circuit which was speed adjustable, together with the light unit and fitted it to the front of my black Ford Cortina :) 8x 12v bulbs which had slow discharge capacitors for the proper sweeping effect. Still have it safely stored away. Very few units actually have the correct sweeping motion.

Yes. The J.C. Whitney boxes had a constant common HOT and switched ground to light them. The reason why the bulb isn’t lighting up on the end is probably due to the black switching transistor on that channel. Take it off the other box and put on this one, it might fix the bad channel. The black switching transistor has the three legs on it going to the output. I hope this helps.

I hope the engine can be fixed. It sounded like the connecting rods when you drove it. Seafoam the shit out of the intake and breakbooster. Pour 3 large bottles of engine restore, a little but of Lucas and a synthetic blend oil change . Cross your fingers and pray. Make sure to subtract the amount of oil for each can of engine restore.
... you can program any lighting effects you want, including the fade effects like the old bulbs,.. with a uno board, or raspberry pi for LED. But you should really use bulbs in this project, cause that's what was in them!! Also here is a tip working with bulbs: Use gloves, (or wipe off the bulbs after installing) because the natural grease from your hands getting on the glass, will make the bulbs burn out quicker over time, because it will make them overheat. Something interesting I noticed when rebuilding my 84 s-10. The lights under the dash have power running out both light socket wires when the door is closed. When the door switch is open (door open) the switch grounds out allowing the light socket to get one leg grounded causing the light to turn on. Might be a common thing, but I was surprised
Low capacity capacitors could provide the fade effect with an LED. The capacity of capacitors needs to be low enough the led can drain it in a similar time to a tungsten bulb cool down. A resistor may be in parallel to increase capacitor-discharge rate if required, the resistor, capacitor and LED should be in parallel.
Yeah, I think you almost have to "re-create" the on screen cockpit in the hero car for the first time. Let's be honest you are kind of crafting the official Knight 4000. The one and only true Knight 4000. One guy has the half car, another guy has the boat car, and a third guy has the stunt car. You have the hero car and it's not really complete until its COMPLETE.
Regarding the Delorean, have you ever done a part 3 conversion with the circuits in the Pepsi crate strapped to the hood with white wall tires mounted on baby moons?
Are you going to add turbo and intercoolers? I mean, make it as fast as it looks! The original K.I.T.T. also had a stock engine. I never understood why. If it's a hero car (a car for show to the public), why not trick out the engine as well as have it look cool?
Probably to keep up the reliability for the screen used cars. Not like anything back then was particularly powerful either, plus the just had the rest of the traffic cars drive under the limit for the roads they filmed on so it looked like KITT was really moving.
It's quite easy to turn KITT into KARR if you add some silver vynil wrap, and a yellow scanner lens. With ZA electronics you can even switch the Voicebox display to KARR mode.
the history of the car makes it cool, but its good its the back burner cause out of the cars in the series its the worst even goliath was better. i remember as a kid going front wheel drive kitt nooooo!! a lot of older cars switch the grounds i know its wierd but i was fixing wiring for a house and the owners went cheap before me and got a car mechanic to wire his house lol, and he switched all the grounds. i love your work its so professional and needed you are amazing. Bob do you have any thoughts/info on whether to use bulbs vs LEDS in a KR scanner? I've read something about them not having the right "fade" effect or something? I see you even reference the reaction to using LEDs? :D
keep the key components, like the controller and scanner bar mounting, but replace the wiring and electrical stuff, last thing you need is a piece of 30 year old wiring shorting out against something

@@vk3hau I don't know how in the USA, but alcohol-based paint stripper is available in Europe. It doesn't affect the plastic, and you can remove the paint without any damage
On the Scooby Dooh Dteam Machine, the license plate is on the bumper, and on the 1974, van it*s on the left hand door, are you going to put the left rear door from the 1973 to the 1974,,.are you going to replace it.
The head gasket is gone on that car but to check first do a compression test and then a leakdown test that will tell you for sure what is wrong with it running a cam down the plug hole will not tell you much you got to do a compression and leakdown test trust me that will show you where your problem is 100%
Which version? There's identical, lower grey, updated speech led, orange scanner, orange speech led, and I believe it is based on series 1 and 2, so single TVs and quad lower lights instead of series 3 and 4 with twin TVs and 6 lower lights.

You are correct. Michael Knight was so furious about KITT being dismantled that he put the CPU into the new car body.

It looks like you have the light on the left side jumpered to the one next to it. That bulb is double-pulsing.

It's weird that it uses regulate 12v bulbs. The original used quartz bulbs so they would be bright enough for the tv cameras.

LEDs pop on and off and don't give you the tail effect, unless they are connected to a controller that fades them up and down. They use less power.

why not try using paint stripper and remove the layers of paint that is on the scanner glass ?
becouse its not glass, its perspex ( plastic ) , paint stripper will eat into perspex and discolour it.
