    Totally useful. I wish someone told me this right when I started playing.
    Also, I find the following tricks very useful, especially in the beginning of the game:
    - Learn to garrison units with control-click, and use garrison instead of making the units walk around a building, especially a civic center, then set a rally point where you want them to go and unload. All units of a single type can be unloaded with shift-click, and all units with pressing U. E.g. very useful when the initial women are standing on the opposite side from the berries.
    - Hotkeys for queueing units correspond to the buttons you see when a building or group is selected in the ZXCV row of the keyboard. Click on CC and Shift-Z for the first 5 women to be created, etc.

      Very many thanks. I specifically picked these three tips because like you, these would have been so handy to know right when I first picked up the game. And absolutely, all of your suggestions are on my list for future tutorials, particularly the little intricacies for garrisoning and unloading :)

    As a long time AOE 2 player and more broad, RTS fan, good to see so far nothing to extreme, mostly the batch mechanic from the tips which takes some time to get used to.

    • @0ADNewbieRush
      @0ADNewbieRush  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate, welcome to the 0AD party! Broadly speaking the game shares many features that will probably be familiar to you as a player of other RTS games, especially AOE2, but it has its own style and feel of gameplay too. Glad you found the tips useful, hope you continue to enjoy the game.

    • @stevencolor3389
      @stevencolor3389 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0ADNewbieRush Yeah, I found about this game a few days ago and have been messing around with it. Has very much the same base game but with enough changes to put it in its own subset.
      similarly to the star wars version of ages, Galactic Battlegrounds where the base game is there and excluding reskin/theme change there were enough gameplay tweaks (like shield generators, infinite food wildlife farms, early relic capture and aircraft such as the tie fighter, x-wing and y-wing)
      Figured I would watch the tips videos you had because that was what came up when I looked for gameplay after I heard of it and was curious how general vs specific you were getting with tips.

      @@0ADNewbieRush I also do have a question for you, which faction would you say plays more similarly to the byzantines from AOE2? Me and my dad both played Byzantines as they were best able to weather the storm until something happened that made an opening for a counter attack with that sweet sweet building hp bonus and the pretty strong calvary.

    I am a compettive AoE 2 player and I might give 0AD a try. I played 0AD a year ago on single player. I like some of its features of 0 AD. All those tricks seem somewhat familiar to me. The only issue is that I don´t know if 0AD gives great gameplay, but I hope to find out where playing 0AD is about.

    • @0ADNewbieRush

      Hello. Thanks for watching and your comment, much appreciated. I only came to 0AD as I was short of cash and was looking for a free alternative to AOE, having liked playing it way back in the day. About 4 years on I'm still playing! I actually got AOE 2 DE just before Christmas, but I really struggled with it - I kept finding that I'd rather be playing 0AD. The games are much more varied I find, whereas with AOE2 you kind of always know how the first 5 minutes of a game will go. With 0AD you have to take into account the civ, the map, the terrain and the biome as to how you're going to build out and expand your economy. In truth they've become very different playing experiences, but I feel there is much more scope for expression in 0AD. Give it another go, I'm sure you'll get into it, and have a look at some of my other replays to get an idea of how differently some of the top players approach their tactics. :)

      @Letswaveabook I’m glad you moved to 0AD. I see you online fairly often! I hope you’re enjoying 0AD - can you let us know how you’ve liked it so far compared to AoE2 and such? I have been trying to spread the word of 0AD on youtube to AoE fans and I hope some people will try 0AD. Is 0AD gaining popularity? Sorry for all these questions at once but I hope you can answer when you’re ready!

      @@tbone8358 A game of Age of Empires 2 has always had different sub-communities in the online community, mostly based on maps. So you had arabia players, arena players, Nomad (TG) players, Black forrest TG players, Custom scenario players(search on youtube for example to Age of Empires II CBA for an explaination) and the land nomad FFA community. So even though it is all the same game, everybody finds something different there. That probably will be the same for 0ad and I can only judge for the way I like to play the game. I am not a big fan of team games, but others are. We can't say that one person has better taste than the other.
      Personally, I dislike the build order focused play and that is what arabia brings you on AoE2. For 0ad there is more variation in opening situations and that is good. Also I think it is kind of unrealistic if winning requires to destroy all buildings and units of your opponent and in 0ad we can capture buildings. Also the citizen soldier is something unique to 0ad. A rotating camera is also a very nice, since in AoE2 there is not way of selecting a palisade that is right behind a castle, and that has serious consequences. So 0ad has its merits, but AoE2 is a still legend. It also needs to be said that wine2.0 used to run AoE2 on voobly excellently, but later versions had trouble.
      For AoE 2, I felt that I reached a point where if I wanted to get better at AoE2, I had to invest a lot of time in things that I didn't enjoy, like practicing archer micro and build orders. Currently there are 36 players on voobly rated above 2k who play regulary. When I peaked I was 1900 rated as an arena player. I reached 1950 once, but that was a lucky strike. So I guess that if I were commited to playing AoE2 at voobly, I could be somewhere in the top 100 on that platform. At this very moment, there are 1100 AoE2 players oline at voobly.
      Wether 0ad is gaining popularity is something I am not sure of. It is not as if there is a lot of change within the top 100 leaderboard. MisticJim has reached 500 subs on youtube, but Tom0AD has 2.2k and is currently inactive. I would say 0ADs popularity hasn't noticably improved.

      No hostility felt, dude. I didn't come to 0AD from an RTS background, as such, it's purely the things I found out later - some by accident, some by other tutorials. All of the tips were not intuitive to me, and quite a few others have expressed their gratitude for presenting them in this order and manner. It's all subjective, ultimately, but no-one unaware of these tips is going to even remotely compete with anyone that does know about them, so it's going to be useful to someone 😊

      @@sean-michaelconroy7686 That's cool, dude. My whole channel, although I do sometimes focus on some top players, will always have a slant towards newer players. As such, there may well be a series of tutorials further down the line going into these little details like buildings or certain units, but there probably will be more emphasis on these things that a lot of people assume everyone knows, but in reality, quite a few people simply don't. I'd completely recommend the Tom 0AD channel for much more detailed and technical guides to economy, civs and units.

      @@0ADNewbieRush Ya, I am good mean the opposite of I am evil. I am well is the opposite of I am sick. It's a good day. Is not the same as It's a well day (not that anyone says that. LOL) . Or I feel well is like I don't feel sick but I feel good is that I don't feel evil. They are not the same word. It is odd, I know. Look them up a good online dictionary.
      I did well, as in,, I did well on a test. I did good is like I didn't do any evil. I did good on a test just doesn't make any sense at all.

    • @0ADNewbieRush
      @0ADNewbieRush  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude, the English language, in its true dictionary form has these foibles. Yes, if I were writing a formal declaration, a business letter or academic essay, I'd totally conform to them. But that kind of writing or speaking is extremely dry and purely functional. But the spoken language evolves, most often locally through regional dialect, and increasingly through modern online communication. Words strict meanings often get changed by mass adoption. I'd also argue that good is more likely to mean the opposite of bad, not evil. As in I did good in a test as opposed to doing 'badly.' And well can be used interchangeablely - 'well done' is a common congratulation for someone who has done something good or something very well. It's also a superlative, 'I like my steak well done' as in cooked thoroughly. Or ' I smoked some good s**t and I got well hammered' - as in I was extremely inebriated!
