We spent two weeks on the Nieuw Statendam this summer and thoroughly enjoyed the ship and the crew. We aren't interested in the crazy shows and antics on many cruise lines but find HAL's mix of entertainment, great food and excellent service fit our preferences perfectly.
nicely shot video. Things I noticed: I think it's LEE-do. I've never heard it pronounced 'LYE-do'. And you needn't get a drink to get the complimentary food at Grand Dutch Cafe. As a sidenote, HAL ended their official relationship with Lincoln Center Stage and it's unclear to what extent they still feature the classical musicians. I think that certain ships don't have them at all. Some may still have them--but it's no longer called 'Lincoln Center Stage'. I enjoyed watching them, but I guess that as HAL tries to connect moreso with people under 60, LCS was deemed expendable. It's a shame. The musicians are incredible and it is probably thrilling for them to get to have this contract-based career playing music. We have two teens and we all like HAL. Their food is top-notch, the ships are attractive, people are well behaved. We do quite a bit of afternoon trivia, also did a nice marguerita-mixing type class. And sometimes we just relax--but we don't have to have the slides/rockwalls and similar things.
@@deekang6244 they ended that contractual 'branding' relationship. So there is no official Lincoln Stage. But I'm not sure if those musicians were all let go or not (or maybe they finished out their contracts?). My next Hal is in late April, I'm going to pay attention for this..

I love HAL, the relaxing atmosphere is exactly what I crave to balance my hectic life. There are places to dance and party at home. But days of relaxing on the ocean? Nothing like it. Love the MDR, expansive and with enough variety. I found the quality to be quite good. I thought the Nieuw Statendam was just the right size.
You're in for a treat. The one, small thing we hated blurs into insignificance when we weigh up how amazing everything else was. Very excited to get married aboard her next year :)

What an exciting 2024 you have in store guys, congratulations. We’re looking at HAL for an Alaska cruise and this vlog has just re-emphasised why. Yet another superb video. 🙏
I went on this ship for an 7 night Norwegian fjord cruise. The cabin was excellent. The ship was very nice, and maybe because of the older crowd it was always easy to get in the pool and hot tub. Everything in the buffet and main dining room was not at all fresh but long stored mass produced junk. Only the Dutch cafe and the hot dog/burger stand seemed fresh and to have any flavor. If you've ever been to Jason's Deli, and had their free ice cream... its kinda icy and sorta sucks but, hey, you didn't have to pay for it? That was ALL of the food on this ship. Really was bummed about that. Even my Tamarid dining experience was just meh. Staff were always running ragged with the buffet constantly filled with dirty tables and the MDR was a throw luke warm food at you as quick as possible and here's a mostly micro air pockets and xanthum gum cheesecake with 1/8th a strawberry on it for your dessert, now get out of here already experience. Will not be back anytime soon.
Hey, great stuff on this, really well put together. I know how much you love Holland America so glowing review was not a surprise, shame the most expensive restaurant was such a let down. Your best ship ever! Looks like at some point I need to get on!
You don't have to purchase a drink at the Dutch cafe to get the food. I love the Statendam and Koningsdam. While I prefer the smaller ships ofHolland, these two ships are the pinnacle of their fleet.
