      @joelweidenmark 8 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      I don't think it's a big deal when you're doing a 2 min solve. It's most likely not the turning that is slowing you down the most, but the thought process.

    • @nwimpney
      @nwimpney 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      When learning, I don't think the time to turn them is all that large compared to the time looking and figuring out what to do.
      As Mike says in the video, the trick to being fast is to learn some patterns and algorithms to solve the first two layers more quickly. After that, the algorithms don't take too long.
      Also, judging by how he's flicking it with his fingers this isn't at all like the super stiff old cubes. I noticed last time a saw one at the store, that they had changed considerably since last time I bought a rubik's brand.

    Im a cuber im speedcubing for 1 year already! Cool that you learned how to solve a 3x3. That method what you learned is called CFOP (Cross, First 2 layers, OLL, PLL) Thats the best method ever but as a begginer you better needed to learn the Layer by layer method or others call it Begginers method with that method you would be able to learn the rubiks cube in more than a hour, but you were trying to be faster so that was a smart choice to learn advanced method first!

    • @emeryshurpit8656
      @emeryshurpit8656 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You cant say that CFOP is the best... just because its the 1 method that everyone uses doesnt mean its the best. Take the Octane from Rocket League, a shit ton of pros use it, yet it cant be called the best car.

    • @Superficialt
      @Superficialt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, this is a fair comment. I was inspired by Mike's video to give it a go, having never tried to solve a Rubik's cube before. I ordered a cube, it arrived yesterday. I watched the video below and just got my first sub-2 minute solve. It took probably 2 hours of practice, if that. I can see that it would be harder to go much faster (there seem to be a lot of inefficient moves), so I may learn some other methods to complement this, but I was surprised how easy it was. Kinda wish I'd tried to work it out by myself. th-cam.com/video/7Ron6MN45LY/w-d-xo.html

    There is actually 4096 possible combinations of a solved Rubik’s cube, not 1, as the centre pieces can all rotate 4 different ways. So 4x4x4x4x4x4=4096.
    I discovered this after solving a cube with peoples face’s on each of the 6 sides, and on that cube the centre pieces have to be rotated correctly, this is way harder than a standard Rubik’s cube. Love this video! 🙂

      Wesley Or Nysm Honestly with practice it becomes intuitive like I can recognize a pattern for a algorithm so fast and you just move the cube you don't think of the actual algorithm you just do it. I am not sure how to put it in specific words. When I first started I would try an algorithm from a finished cube solve it from there so I don't have to do f2l and the cross.

    dude, this is so cool, Love it. The editing and everyhing, well done, sir. :) It's cool that you learnt 2 look oll, you could have done it with just 2x sune with holding the cube correctly. I remember I stuck at about 1min 10 sec for years, until i picked the cube up again. Most people give up at 3-5 min, glad you didn't. And.. Hype, first time my comment is in a youtube video, :P. Thanks man.

    • @MikeBoyd

      +herrreinsch thanks for the comment inspiring me to make this video! You got a link for 2x sune technique?

    • @herrreinsch
      @herrreinsch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I just figured it out by myself. If you know sune and antisune (or sune with the left hand) you can try around until one corner is oriented, and then remember that position. And with 2x sune I mean: sune rotate, and another sune, so basically 3 lock oll. I did that before learning 2 lock. And before that I just guesst, like: sune, no, rotate, sune, no, rotate.. until 1 corner was oriented. :) But 2 look oll is better anyways. I've been speedcubing for 2 years now, and I'm around 14-15 seconds average. Yep, speedcubing is quite fun, and very addicting. :)
      And if you look for tutorials, I suggest crazybadcubers F2L(really easy to follow), and paradox cubing tutorials. And badmephisto's tutorials are also old but gold.(feliks learnt from them). So, i think that was a little bit to long now, but whatever. thanks for reading.
