Kyle, you can go ahead and give up your futile quest for Sakurai-style efficiency. We're here for your inane long-winded ramblings and, of course, those delicious bonus bits baybeeeee
Sitting through the credits after a movie is your decompression time before you go back out into the real world. I've never understood the people who just leave immediately. Great to know that Kyle gets it.
It’s dads that want to “beat the traffic” even if there is no traffic and the parking lot is basically empty. Like leaving the house is always an obligation, and the faster you can rush home (for no reason in particular) the better.
A decompression, absolutely. 👍 I like to drag the experience out. I’ll go to a restaurant or truck stop diner after the movie and discuss it over a meal (or read a book while eating, if solo).
@@mrshmuga9 Yeah, the "beat traffic" explanation never made sense to me. Even with post-credits scenes becoming a common thing there are still fewer people staying to the end than leaving when the credits start, so the crowd tends to clear out if you wait. In my experience anyway. Oh, but what actually annoys me are the people who start shuffling towards the door when they've decided the movie feels like it's about to end.
I didn't believe in the car horn joke when you were initially setting it up, but now you've conditioned me to expect it and lose my shit laughing every time you use it. Goddamn it, Kyle.
As a dad, I love watching the credits. Also, I'm probably paying hourly for a babysitter, so leaving early might be financially the best option available.
I thought about Nier Automata's end credits as a good example where the game respects the people who worked on the game while also giving the player something to do. More than that, the credits sequence is also technically part of the story.
A Delayed Input featuring Masahiro Sakurai... talks about End Credits in Video Games... mentions interactivity....somehow misses the GOAT EC screen created by aforementioned developer... Super Smash Bros. Melee is RIGHT THERE!

I agree, this is always the first one I think of. Nintendo in recent years has really done well with interactive credits. New Horizons implemented them in a smart place. And Nier: Automata is special for a narrative reason

Every time Kyle brings up Bustafellows, I wonder where that Bosman bit is originally from. Eventually I look it up and realize it's real. Five minutes later, Bustafellows has breached containment from the Real Things sector of my brain, and the cycle repeats. Well, time's almost up. So long, Bustafellows the real actual video game. Maybe I'll remember you again if Kyle informs us of a Season 3.
Alright, I gotta say, I know TH-camrs like to pull this card all the time, and I mostly don't believe them - I have watched all of your videos to completion (whose completion is a secret for me to know), and I NEVER get recommended your videos. Ever. I've watched every Delayed Input since the first one, but TH-cam doesn't think I want to watch it. I have to go through my subscriptions to find when you've uploaded something.
I love credits, and something I don't like about Spotify but do like about vinyl, cassettes and to a lesser extent CDs, is the sound you hear when the album finishes. The needle resetting, the play button popping back up, or the laser resetting.
Woah Kyle. You can't talk about Best Game Credits Scenes without mentioning Super Smash Bros Melee!! The mechanic of flying through space blowing up names of creators was so far out of left field that it single handedly convinced me that I'd probably enjoy a Starfox game 😂 It had nothing to do with the SSB mechanics and even included a score counter making it oddly replayable. It was a true gift to their fellow Smash developers and the players alike 🏆
I always stay for the entire credits when I see a movie in the theater. It's part "getting my money's worth", part "how many hundreds of people did the CGI for this one?", part "what were the filming locations?", part respecting the people who worked on it, and part "maybe something cute happens after the credits". Shaun The Sheep Movie is a great example of the latter.
Good episode!, regarding to the credits talk, It's nice to see someone who also likes to watch the credits to the end, yeah I also like to watch until the end, mostly if has a good speed, good size in the letters and a good song along with Also, maybe it's sounds stupid but sometimes I play a little game that I made up by watching the credits which is how many times I find someone that shares either my first name or second last name, funnily enough with my first name: various times (but not commonly), meanwhile with my second last name: never (lol!), not even one single time, looks like my last name is not very common (but I know someday I will find one).
That’s me. I’m the dad that pops up and walks out the door. I don’t rush anyone else with me though, but I just want to get the fuck outta there. Wanting a cigarette usually plays a big part in that though.
I missed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 at the cinema. I finally got to watch it at a friend's house, and when it ended (and I'm talking the very second the credits started to roll...) he turned the TV off. I've never gotten over it. It made the whole thing feel total unceremonious, destroyed all sense of closure ...it just blinked out of existence. So, yeah, I agree: credits are important.
Alright, so if we don't count the intro as part of the 'body' of the episode, it was 5 minutes and 58 seconds, meaning the credits sequence is longer than the episode.

Is good that thanks t Kyle implementing the Sakurai efficiency on this episode, the bonus bit was longer than usual.
I like to sit to the end of the credits of any movie I see in theaters. It's just nice to decompress and talk about with someone to the backdrop of cool music.
I love it whenever they approach Pokemon as actual animals and showcase them as such. I thought that 24 hour wildlife cam they did for Sword/Shield was genius and I always wished they did more cool stuff like that
The thing they're doing right now for Pokemon GO with the Ultra Beasts is also pretty cool, treating their appearances like found footage, some of them are pretty elaborate
Speaking of long credits, Spider-man PS4's credits are over half an hour long. Longest credits I've ever seen. It's unbelievable. And if you play all the DLC, it plays 4 times!
I do love how half minute hero used credits for comedic effect. Also I like how Asuras Wrath uses credits each episode mimicking an anime episode. I love video game credits.
As Bradley Ellis often says “Sakurai is a gem.” That new Pokémon doesn’t even look like a Pokémon to me. Something about it’s design is off-putting. My favorite credits are the ones where the team members actually get to write their own thank you notes. The most recent example of this for me was Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Sure, it makes the credits longer but it gives the actual devs a voice, even if just for a few seconds. ❤️
Kind of appropriate that the pokemon is off-putting since it is based off the aye aye, one of the ugliest real creatures mother nature has birthed. Zefrank has a great vid on it.
I don’t know if a developing studio has already done it but incorporating a “making of” into the credits would increase the likeliness of people remembering and cherishing the work and also educates people which roles have what responsibilities. While, yes, it would increase the length of the credits but you could also split the “making of” credits into different parts so the player can either enjoy them while finishing the game multiple times or watch the whole thing after their first clear (because then they unlocked it). At least that would be very interesting from my POV but it’s difficult to say if this would give people enough of an incentive to engage with the credits.
I don't know about like a whole mini doc going on the side. but to just have BTS footage going on on the side would be interesting. Out of the things games take from the movie industry I'm surprised a majority of games don't have bonus features in terms of Behind the Scenes stuff. I only recall specific games like some Valve games having audio commentary or a BTS easter egg in Jackie Chan Stuntmaster and collections. Otherwise it would be outside the game itself like Magazines, Demo Disks and collectors items. Recently it would be "making of" docs made by fans or the studio themselves uploaded to TH-cam.
I've suffered through half-hour long game end credits because I'm afraid I might miss something. I think at one point in the Halo Infinite end credits I started believing the thing was going on a loop. It almost broke my mind.
No mention of Smash Bros credits in the same episode you talked about Sakurai? They were always fun mini games. I liked shooting the names and trying to get a high score. I almost never skipped the Melee credits as a kid because I tried to shoot all the names.
The line "happening upon some freaky thing"..."oh my god what is -what is this?" at 4:26 brought forth unbidden flashbacks to the Naked Mole Rap from Kim Possible... "What is that, that freaky thing? Yes that's right it's a naked mole rat"
That pokemon is based on the aye aye, not a lemur. The aye aye has a freakishly long middle finger that it taps on trees to detect insects in trees. Digs a hole in said tree with its beaver-like teeth, then fishes out bugs with its witch finger. It's a hideous looking creature but I kinda love it.
You do raise a good point about the Fortnite credits, honestly. A thought just occurred to me that maybe multiplayer games like that which don't have traditional game ends could slot their credits into something like the loading screen before a match. Not all of the credits, obviously - just like three names chosen at random, with their job title. Could be a neat little way to give these devs some attention, since they'd be shown at a time when the players typically wouldn't be doing anything else anyway.
I think I had to pee during game credits more than not. Usually very urgently cuz I was holding it in during a boss fight or long ending cut scene. But then I still can't leave. What if something happens after the credits? So I sit there on my couch, bladder filled to the max, looking at Names of Managers from Sony Interactive Entertainment Nicaragua.
Video game credits and movie credits in general are long enough that you can pee and come back and they wont be over. Games don't have mid credits scenes as far as I know.

LittleBigPlanet 2 had an acheivement you get if you sit through and watch the whole credits, and dont skip. While it can incentivise players to not skip the credit sequence, if you just have to sit there, it kinda feels like homework.

On credits. Might and Magic 6, there was a hidden room in the hardest area of the game where you could find random NPC's named after the developers. Amazing.
I feel like credits don't exist for the audience, they're more of a record so the people involved (or people hiring the people involved) have a firm record of their role. As a player I'm only really gonna take note of the voice actors and directors, not because I don't respect about the others' work but because credits are essentially just long lists of names and my brain can only hold so much information. They exist for the IMDBs and Wikipedias of the world, ya know? Like you said, I take the credits as a period of reflection - to take in the music and think about what I just experienced.
the best credits are in the smash bros series. You shoot the names, it gives you something to do and you actually end up reading the names that you are shooting!
The Ubisoft Prince of Persia reboot had an impactful playable credits scene Also s/o to Super Smash and Nier where you actively destroy the credits, so satisfying
It’s not quite the same, but a really cool credit thing was Diablo 3 having a dungeon where all the monsters had staffs’ names, so you’d see everyone who made the game by fighting through the dungeon and the boss at the end was the lead designer.
