The fret buzz and fret slapping noise coming from what otherwise is an excellent choice for a bass is very distracting and makes it hard to properly EQ the bass. First of all, the bass needs to be set up properly for the player using it to eliminate the fret buzz, unless that's a desired characteristic now. I agree with the high pass filter (you call it a low-cut filter) and the high shelving above around 1.1K but there's way too much compression and almost no sustain. A compressor is traditionally used to level out the high peaks, like you get with slap bass, and help give the bass a consistent level and bit of sustain for those long whole notes that happen in certain songs, not to squash the overall output of the bass. If you want less bass in the mix then reduce the level post EQ. Overall, after your tweaks, the bass seems to disappear in your mix with the whole band. In the full mix, the bass should be "present" and articulate. I hope this helps!

Yeah, that finger noise is really tough to mix. Shows you how much the player themselves can make a good instrument and setup just sound bad.

I get what your saying. Our bass player actually really knows her way around a bass. Every single Music Man I've heard has that string noise characteristic from the factory. Hardly ever hear one played without that grungy fret noise. Even seen some videos of pros playing them and getting that sound.
I'm sure you can get a setup that would mitigate, but I'm pretty certain that the sound was Earnie Balls intention. It's part of the basses intended character, love it or hate it. -Dillon

The MusicMan is such a "character" instrument. I would have preferred to hear this demonstration with a different bass/player combination@@collabworship

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you have to turn "AUTO ENV" to "OFF" in order for the attack, hold, and release times to take effect.

Correct. Kade actually talks about that further into the full video, and also in this video: th-cam.com/video/6NdqyPrlMZk/w-d-xo.html

Putting a low cut on the primary instrument responsible for the low end of your track is not just counter intuitive; it's counter productive. At this point I feel like people just put low cut on everything by default.

In this case, the low cut is simply to clean up any rogue frequencies generated that don't matter. The last thing I want is for my speakers to waster energy on trying to produce something it is not capable of.

@@collabworship I understand, but the Lowest frequency on a 5 string bass is 31 Hz. If your bass is only four strings, which is not common anymore unless you're playing funk of punk rock, I think that may be too aggressive of a cut for a bass guitar.

You don't hear picks used a lot in worship music these days! They def give a cool tone though.
