I saw her sing this live. Not at the grammys, but om her UK tour. My non-Mariah fan friend came and was blown away by Fly Like a Bird. She actually ran around the stage whilst singing it :)

If you notice at the beginning she sounds shaky at the beginning it's because she was nervous and yes THE Mariah Carey get nervous, even to this day but if you notice at 4:26 she kinda takes a moment to take a breath and get her shit together and then proceeds to slay the rest of the performance

She’s always suffered from stage fright and with the vocal nodules it’s soo much worse because she can’t always predict what her voice can do
If look at videos behind stage Mary j blige was sang sister , Mariah was the only got standing ovation that night . Several other artist when they accepted their awards said how Mariah took them to church .

Yall know before mariah performed she didn't know what song to do after we belong together so karen clark sheard helped her make and arrange the song fly like a bird that's why it's so chuchy
I would respect the performance more if it was 100% Live! She used backing tracks and a lot of the high notes were pulled straight from the recording. Then to try and prove she is really singing, she is doing all this running around the stage, punching the air, and it all just looks so forced and painful. I love both the songs though, but this was not a LIVE performance, at least not on the parts where it mattered. I've always said Whitney Houston was the effortless performer and Mariah looked like the struggle live. At least we know ONE of them was a 100% LIVE VOCALIST on stage!

You know only a portion of the fly like a bird climax here is lipped, right? It is so obvious that most of it is live and youre tryna make it seem like way more is lipped than it actually is. Always the delusional Whitney stans in every mariah video putting mariah down but praising Whitney, as if she’s better.
