- Feeding :
A wide variety of feed ingredients is used to prepare supplemental/artificial feeds. The simplest fish feeds are prepared at the tanks site using locally available raw materials like rice or corn bran, copra meal and rice mill sweepings as sources of carbohydrates. These are usually mixed with animal protein like trash fish / fish meal, shrimp heads and snail meat. Supplemental feeds for fish are prepared using 85% rice bran and 30% fish meal. Commercial feed preparations are also available now in a wide range of brandnames mostly for semi intensive and intensive fish culture.
Commercial feeds usually come in various formulations to match the protein requirement of the culture organism which as a rule decreases with age. Starter feeds are usually given on the first month of culture finisher feeds on the last month and grower feeds in between. The daily feed rations are given in equal portions during the course of a day. Freshwater fish are usually fed twice a day early morning and late afternoon.
Catfish are fed more frequently from three to four to as often as six to seven times a day. Feeds are broadcast into the water and or supplied on feeding trays. The feeding tray is lifted two to three hours after the feed was supplied to check how much of it has been consumed and to see if the catfish are healthy and feeding. Empty feeding trays may indicate that the quantity given is inadequate and may have to be increased. The feeding ration is subsequently adjusted accordingly to optimize feed utilization.

I'm stunned to see so very many fish in such crammed conditions - I would prefer to eat the shrimp heads with rice myself before it gets processed for catfish fodder ... but then again the shrimp are possibly raised on mass in equally unhealthy conditions... how many of us would stop eating certain foods if we knew how it is raised or prepared.

Es una de las ventajas de esta especie pangasius, mientras tengan buen oxígeno y algo de agua adelantan bien, el tema es como se llegó a esa densidad sin afectar el cultivo, imagina di esa saturación despierta alguna enfermedad .... tremendo problema para toda la vecindad acuicola y para los clientes que no hagan trazabilidad en profundidad a su productor o proveedor....
