It seems odd that they didn't use the same analog stick and C-stick as the Duelist. They obviously had the parts and they better match the design of the original controller.
You don't have to feel shameful for being "Bad" at playing video games. It is a SKILL and I think being a god at hand eye coordination and object permanence is normalized way too much in the gaming community play at your own speed and learn if you want and don't if you don't. Video games are a fun interaction with art! enjoy it!
All it needs is a receiver with a VMU slot. I don't think a wireless version will work because... How will I see my cards in Sonic Shuffle? I need a visible VMU nearby to look at them.

This is probably my favorite RF controller to date. Looks like they nailed the dpad down as well (pray for the 6axis defender). The minor criticisms I have are, the button feels like cheap plastic. Also, while feeling light is common among 3rd party controllers, this one feels kinda hollow especially around the 2 prongs. Feels like it'll break if I mishandled it.
You know... I can't thank the retro community enough for making things such as this possible. I have no love for newer consoles at the moment. People like Extrems (Swiss), Daniel Kraak (GC Loader), Dan Kunz (citrus3000psi).. and manufactures such as Insurrection, Retrobit, RetroTink, 8bitmods, RetroFighter, LaserBearIndustries etc etc etc. I can't thank them enough.. and then all these TH-camrs who brings the community to life, like yourself RoXoild.. THANKS! Makes me so happy ☺🤩 The Cube is more alive than ever before... couple this with GameBoyPlayer and an Everdrive.. Honestly I think the Cube is the best console to modify right now. Also.. Screen-modded GBA + Link cable? Anyone? hah ! 😁 Wireless Gamecube couch co-op with none existent load screens due to SD-card ODEs (with ESP32 chips GC-Loader HW2 which will most likely enable wifi soon)? 😁 This makes the little kid inside of me feel alive and well. Honestly feels more modern than Switch with all these additions. While still having my favorite game library, which I grew up with. Nostalgia at it's best.
Any chance you tried the f-zero gx controller calibration tool? OG GameCube controllers display an octagonal shape, while most (if not all) aftermarket controllers display a square shape. Would be awesome to compare this controller to the original using that tool. I'm really hoping for it to be an octagonal shape stickbox!
I still need to get a Blueretro Wireless Dongle. But I think I will use the Exlene Gamecube Style controller for Switch. It should work. I am just going through an expensive break up right now so no time for game stuff but I am very happy about this video. It helped me make my decision. I may still get this eventually for player 2 anyways. Thank you for your videos. It helps take my mind off things.❤
Just tested it on my Ps3, if you plug it directly into the usb it won't work. But plugging it into a magic Ns adapter does work. Everything works as it should. Also works on Ps4 with the same method
I hope they make more colors like the Platinum Edition for people who have platinum GameCubes and maybe even other colors that Nintendo never released a clear one would also be pretty cool to have.
0:04 Actually, Sega made wireless controllers as far as the Sega Genesis days, so the Sega Genesis is technically the first ever console to have official wireless controllers released. They even made Sega Saturn wireless controllers, but both Genesis and Saturn OEM wireless pads are IR-based and not as reliable as radio frequency or Bluetooth. However, Nintendo made the first OEM wireless controller to use radio frequency, with inputs being far less likely to drop.
I got the BladeGC controller in the mail. I definitely like the size of the controller and the analog sticks feel good. Charging it up for tonight later and give it a go. Can't wait for my BattlerGC to ship and arrive in the mail.

Usually to turn off controllers you just push the pairing button or you just hold down the home button for long enough. Strange this is using something else.
just got a black and purple direct from retrofighters but they both have the d-pad and left stick swapped. looks more like playstation layout. still great controller but don't know why there appears to be two versions out there.
One as initial GC layout, the PS layout for retro games (e.g. Gameboy Player). It is a bit bizarr: PS layout is for people, who are more familiar with an xbox controller layout
I don't know how much extra work it is to do a short, I assume it's not trivial, but are you able to show it with the dongle used on PC? I don't know that I've seen anyone post PC gameplay with it aside from a guy for whom it wouldn't work.

No worries I just got mine in the mail and it works great for me. Tested it on emulators such as Dolphin and CEMU. Also tried Bloodstained on Steam as well and everything works well with the usb dongle.
I was so hyped to find these things. I had so much trouble finding wavebirds, and the generic third party ones were total garbage. So excited to have a new wireless gamecube style contoller that actually works with the gamecube. The thing works great. Now if they stuck it into a gamecube contoller-shaped shell, it would be a masterpiece
Sweet getting my GCDual, BattlerGC and MemCard GC setup going this year. Still waiting on that GCLoader restock though as I don't want to deal with the incompatibility issues with the Picoboot / SD2SP2 mods.
I wish I knew about this when it released last year, this is such a good thing for the world. Retro Fighters has done something pretty awesome making a controller compatible for Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, and even Switch. When I get this, I will also test to see if it works on Ps3 and Ps4 with that dongle, don't see why it wouldn't with the way technology has allowed Nintendo controllers to run on Playstations and Xboxes
FINALLY! Glad to hear rumble works on the gamecube, this is what ive been waiting 20 years for! I also remember my GBA mario and luigi superstar saga game vibrated the controller when played on the gameboy player, if you have that game could you confirm if the Gameboy player sends vibration to it as well?
Just got mine in yesterday, usually a purple guy but I went with Spice Orange. Pretty much find it perfect other than it not having much grip, it's still comfortable though. Love how fast it connects to the dongle as well.
Just got mine today. And the dongle didn’t work on my Wii or 2 GameCubes. 😢 only worked on my switch with the usb. The GameCube dongle doesn’t light up. I was so hyped for nothing
I got mine today and was testing it as I was watching this. I thought it was really nice. The sticks and buttons are good, the D-Pad is a massive improvement over the original, and the Z/R buttons are big enough for me to use my 2nd/3rd fingers on them at the same time. I can't use that grip on the original. Makes the Z button MUCH more ergonomic and functional which along with the Dpad were the only two flaws IMO on the original which is my favorite controller of all time. Retro Fighters has been getting better and better. I have most of their controllers and there's been a good gradual improvement.
I gave Guilty Gear XX a shot and I dig the directional pad. Performing Volcanic Vipers, Vapor Thrusts and Beta Blades are as expected, unlike the Defender where I had to fight the controller's imperfect design to get the Z-motion specials working. However, I keep mistaking the Z button for the R button, so that shows that I am too used to performing Dust attacks wth the R1 button (or Right Bumper) on a PlayStation or Xbox 360 pad.
How difficult would it be to replace that right analogue stick with a proper C-stick? I imagine the worst case scenario would be that you have you purchase one of the Duelist controllers and use the stick off of that. Or maybe you can use a replacement stick to an OG GameCube controller, but then you might run into compatibility issues. If the same company makes both the Duelist and the BattlerGC, the sticks should be interchangeable. The yellow C-stick being absent is not a deal breaker for me, but it's certainly something that could be fixed.
USB is USB most of the time it just being used to charge up the battery. Though the nice thing about C in the it doesn't matter which way it is when it is plugged in.
15:11 You will have to buy a MayFlash PS2-to-Wii adapter and a Retro Fighters Defender to make the BattlerGC usable on the Wii U. This setup isn't perfect, as there's a rare chance the Defender receiver will freeze up for a second or two. Not only that, the face buttons have been mixed around so you have to press B as your confirm button for the most part. I mixed and matched the controllers and receivers and this actually works.
@@RoXolid Well, Virtual Console and Wii U games other than Smash Bros. 2014 won't work with the GameCube to USB controller adapters. Long before I got the BladeGC, I owned at least a Defender and a Mayflash PS2-to-Wii controller adapter. Turns out Retro Fighters didn't produce a receiver that plugs into any Wii Remote, so that means select Wii games (like Blast Works and CoD Black Ops) won't work unless you have the setup that I mentioned. If you already have a Defender from Retro Fighters, all you have to do is get the latter adapter.
I'll tell you right now that for "Regular" Gamecube games the BattlerGC is going to be the way I want to go, but for Game Boy Player Games the BladeGC will be the way for me.
I think a question has to be asked. How is the stick? The original gamecube stick was done in a way that makes it extremely precise. And from my experience with their ps2 controller and a review from nerrel on their n64 controller. Their analog sticks do register a square and not the shape you think they should make in software. Have you tried this with super moneky ball? That game is the perfect game to test the stick cause no other versions are able to have its precise movement. Not even emulating this and using a non gamecube controller
@@RoXolid how bout the gamecube versions of killer 7 or resident evil 4? Actually, can you try this on your computer? Software there should say how the stick registers. If you need help on how to do it, I'm willing to help. Should be in the control panels settings
Hello. Great review. Might pick this up. Just one thing. When you tried out the controller via the dongle on the GameCube controller adapter on your Wii U, the adapter only works with Smash Bros for Wii U on the Wii U unfortunately. Yeah Nintendo really missed a trick there but that’s besides the point. When using that adapter on the Switch on the other hand, it is compatible with all games. Although any game besides Smash Ultimate and Mario Sunshine has the controller registering as a Pro Controller instead of a GameCube controller like the two games I pointed out. Thought I would just let you know.
If only Retro Fighters made a receiver for use with Wii Remotes... That would open up more support for Wii, Wii U, NES Classic and SNES Classic. The setup I have (Mayflash PS2-to-Wii adapter, Defender receiver and BladeGC) has questionable button mapping... A and B are backwards, and so are X and Y.

@@RoXolid I have 2 and they both turn off randomly. I’m not accidentally pressing L3 & (-) at the same time. I’ve tried it on different docks for the Nintendo Switch. Maybe the 2.4ghz signal from the WiFi is interfering with it.

I don't get what Ape Vs Microsoft means, sorry the reference goes over my head. But once he blocked me on Twitter for some reason and refused to let me know why or if I did somethig to offend him I have no use for him or his content. Like I sent an email and everything trying to find out what happened and cool things over and all I got was radio silence. So I've moved on and do not watch nor recommend his content.

@@RoXolid I did, yes. Two of them. Both had awful sticks and triggers really weren’t up to snuff. If these were at most $30 a pop? I could recommend them… not at $45… I definitely can’t give them the moniker of “best Wavebird replacement”.
The analog sticks are in fact NOT great. They’re not accurate in range to the original GameCube controller. They reach maximum sensitivity way too early. Be honest please.

I've been using one of these playing Metroid Prime on GC for 3 days and it's a big improvement on my previous wireless GC controller

Wish they used the shape of the Duelist rather than this new shape. I also wish it used the same sticks as the Duelist.

I connected to PC and the buttons work exactly as they're mapped on the controller. All buttons function as they should and nothing is reversed

I don't game on my PC, sorry. They do claim on the box that it is compaitble with PC. But I literally have 0 games on my PC.

USB-C is just more durable than Micro USB. That's my biggest issue with it

Why not just use the Wii USB to Gamecube adapter? It's much less expensive than what you're suggesting.
@@RoXolid Well, Virtual Console and Wii U games other than Smash Bros. 2014 won't work with the GameCube to USB controller adapters. Long before I got the BladeGC, I owned at least a Defender and a Mayflash PS2-to-Wii controller adapter.
Turns out Retro Fighters didn't produce a receiver that plugs into any Wii Remote, so that means select Wii games (like Blast Works and CoD Black Ops) won't work unless you have the setup that I mentioned. If you already have a Defender from Retro Fighters, all you have to do is get the latter adapter.
Can you swap map buttons? Megaman collection has swapped nes map?
when you get the bladegc are you going to decide which controller you would strongly recommend, the battlegc or bladegc?
I'll tell you right now that for "Regular" Gamecube games the BattlerGC is going to be the way I want to go, but for Game Boy Player Games the BladeGC will be the way for me.

I think a question has to be asked. How is the stick?
The original gamecube stick was done in a way that makes it extremely precise. And from my experience with their ps2 controller and a review from nerrel on their n64 controller. Their analog sticks do register a square and not the shape you think they should make in software.
Have you tried this with super moneky ball? That game is the perfect game to test the stick cause no other versions are able to have its precise movement. Not even emulating this and using a non gamecube controller

Actually, can you try this on your computer? Software there should say how the stick registers. If you need help on how to do it, I'm willing to help. Should be in the control panels settings

Hello. Great review. Might pick this up. Just one thing. When you tried out the controller via the dongle on the GameCube controller adapter on your Wii U, the adapter only works with Smash Bros for Wii U on the Wii U unfortunately. Yeah Nintendo really missed a trick there but that’s besides the point. When using that adapter on the Switch on the other hand, it is compatible with all games. Although any game besides Smash Ultimate and Mario Sunshine has the controller registering as a Pro Controller instead of a GameCube controller like the two games I pointed out. Thought I would just let you know.
Trials Rising and GRID Autosport also use the GameCube Controller's Analog Triggers on Switch.

If only Retro Fighters made a receiver for use with Wii Remotes... That would open up more support for Wii, Wii U, NES Classic and SNES Classic. The setup I have (Mayflash PS2-to-Wii adapter, Defender receiver and BladeGC) has questionable button mapping... A and B are backwards, and so are X and Y.
Any chance you could review the BladeGC controller?

I don't have that game, but I will say I have not had any issues with compatibility.

Classic games here I come I still have my GameCube but it doesn’t work any more so need to fix soon or later mine’s is the black one.
Depending on what it is you could fix it easily. If the laser isn't working replacements are cheap

@@richardguilamo976 Ok, there are replacement AC Adapters out there for under $20 you could try. There is a fuse in the system too that might need replacement
@@RoXolid yes the fuse cuz one day during a thunderstorm we lost power while I was playing some games for nearly a day and when the power came back it doesn’t work anymore.

@@RoXolid I have 2 and they both turn off randomly. I’m not accidentally pressing L3 & (-) at the same time. I’ve tried it on different docks for the Nintendo Switch. Maybe the 2.4ghz signal from the WiFi is interfering with it.

I don't get what Ape Vs Microsoft means, sorry the reference goes over my head. But once he blocked me on Twitter for some reason and refused to let me know why or if I did somethig to offend him I have no use for him or his content. Like I sent an email and everything trying to find out what happened and cool things over and all I got was radio silence. So I've moved on and do not watch nor recommend his content.

Not a great replacement… a fine alternative if you’re not wanting to pay market price for a Wavebird… these are a solid C in terms of quality.

@@RoXolid I did, yes. Two of them. Both had awful sticks and triggers really weren’t up to snuff. If these were at most $30 a pop? I could recommend them… not at $45… I definitely can’t give them the moniker of “best Wavebird replacement”.
The analog sticks are in fact NOT great. They’re not accurate in range to the original GameCube controller. They reach maximum sensitivity way too early. Be honest please.
I did not have an issue with them, so in regards to my personal preferences, I thought they were honestly just fine.
I didn't like the buttons they feel cheap.
I didn't think so but to each their own
