I think the main reason why obesity is so prevalent in modern society is because of the unnecessarily huge amounts of added sugars in about every food. It is said that sugar lights up the same parts of your brains as cocaine, which means foods with added sugars are more addictive. This explains why we keep eating more and more. Besides that, we also sit around for long hours: you sit in school, sit when you do your homework and then the day is over and you go sleep. And between all that we drive cars and take public transport. I haven't even mentioned office jobs.....
yup sugar is the devil.😖 aside from obesity it's linked to a number of diseases and illnesses. I've given it up for about 6 months now. It's super hard because of how addicting it is. But I am starting to see health improvements.
@@AvonnaVentura right now I've found some sugar free ice cream and little chocolates to satisfy my cravings. They have xylitol as a sweetener. It's not perfect but it helps. Some people react differently to this ingredient, so you have to research it and test how it acts with your body. Monk fruit sugar is also supposed to be better. Of course I only take these in very small quantities and only when cravings get bad...you also have to watch out for processed food, fast food, etc as sugar is in all of these. If you wanna take baby steps I recommend cutting out sugar in your drinks. So juices, pop, energy drinks, coffee, etc. since they hide so much sugar in drinks and we quickly consume them.
When my sister went to Sweden, she easily dropped weight. The produce is reallyy cheap and the food isn’t as processed. And unlike here, everyone is constantly walking.
I love how this video doesn't really encourage unhealthy habits in order to just be thin for the sake of being thin, and that doesn't encourage being underweight, but being at a healthy weight.
@@MelB868 Actually the middle one is healthy touching on overweight. The other two are healthy touching on lower weight. You're just not used to the style in which they drew girls then. The long legs and the clothing-cinched waists are throwing you off.
There’s nothing wrong with being thin for the sake of it? You kno people are allowed to change themselves because they just want to look and feel hot, too? And if that’s a good motivation, it’s better than none. It’s so strange how people have adopted this “you’re not allowed to want to achieve something to feel smokin’ that’s BAD” as a way to say it excludes being healthy somehow? You’re still healthy being thin because you WANT to because you’re not carrying excess weight. I strongly suggest expanding your thought process and mindset instead of this narrow “being thin because being thin is BAD”
@@buckyyyb that's literally not what I said at all. I'm referring to the cultural phenomenon of people wanting to be thin just for being thin because society has dictated that being thin should be the default for everyone and that being thin is the only way to look and feel beautiful, when that is not the case. I have nothing against people wanting to lose weight and feel comfortable with their weight, but I also want that same kindness to be applied to people who are not thin and are not interested in losing weight. Not everyone wants to be thin, but society teaches us that this is somehow a moral failing and that we should ALL want to be thin. And I do have a problem with that. It's one thing to be at a healthy weight and another to just be thin. A healthy weight looks different for everyone depending on your DNA and background and even your bone structure and height, it's not just about being thin. I also don't subscribe to the idea that you have to be a size 0 in order to look "hot".
whats shocking to me is despite how outdated this is, I feel this carries less shame and more information then many modern versions of it, it's very to the point and they do their best to explain as much as possible as simple and fast as they can.
I agree, but we live in an age where if ANYTHING is said that hurts someone’s feelings, they take the stance that the person had no right to say it, as opposed to just taking in the information and processing it internally. Some of us can benefit from this information, and I’m one of them.
My favorite thing about the video; I didn’t hear one hint of a fad diet or gimmick. Everything she said was based on simplicity and common sense. I’m trying my best to implement these core essentials every day. Not easy but worth it in the long run.
@A E everything you said is true in the context of extreme caloric restriction like the example you provided, if the caloric restricition is low like 300 cal then your metabolism wont compensate and cause you to stop losing weight
@A E but you still need to consume less calories than you use to lose any weight. But of course you should make sure the calorie deficit isn't too high most experts agree it should never be higher than 500 kcal.
Yeah same as today's best advice IE " Whole foods not junk " she actually said that - started off with water consumption ( so fattening fruit juice is automatically out ) not a word only implied about added sugar /carbs , the quote on that was " gives you energy "
I guess it’s because now we all know what we’re *supposed* to do. We want some new exciting way. That’s why there’s so many different diets all based on the very idea this video talks about.

My grandmother said in the 40's lunch was a sandwich with 2 thin slices bread, 2 ounces meat or spread, 1 cookie, thermos of coffee, and a small piece of fruit if you had money. For dinner she served 1/2 cup soup, 1 lettuce wedge with dressing, 3 oz meat, potato or homemade noodles, and green vegetable (2/3 cup). Breakfast was 1 egg, 1 thin slice of toast, and tea or coffee. If she served juice it was 4 ounces only. She said most people walked, most housework was done by hand without machines, laundry was hung out to dry, and you walked to shop. She said small proportions of everything was eaten and food rationing during war efforts contributed to establishing portion sizes. She also said people rarely ate out. We have huge portions now and bounce from one fad diet to the next. We also have a ton of chemicals in our food supply and everything is highly processed.
We were still eating like this in the 60's and never ate out unless we were on a family vacation. I remember when McDonald's came to town and it was a rare treat for us kids.
That's a lot like how my family ate during the 60s and 70s. Always 3 meals a day, one helping only. You never took 2nds because that was greedy. No snacking because you needed to "save your appetite for dinner." No junk food because it would "rot your teeth." But a small home-made cookie after supper was allowed. And we were all skinny as models. No need to go on a diet.
Everything is so convenient now except exercise. We have to pay for a gym membership for exercise. I would have to cross busy roads to get to town on foot.
This was posted at a perfect time. I've been fighting with my ED rearing its head up again due to stress, and this just helped me. I will work out, and then eat something small, before I sleep. Thank you

My food scales was weighing 4 times what it should have been and i did not really need 3 hours exercise . Calories of buns can really add up and have little volume. Its not my maintenance what I'm eating but I find that hard to trust. I havent been unwell since 2015 I am not a great eater and for from being underweight to overweight easily. Just see what you need to stay well and try and eat what you enjoy. Sports can build confidence but eat enough for them. Good luck.

Cocaine came as tooth drops for tooth ache. They sold an entirely different kind of anphetamine for weight loss and that was in the 1950's / 1960's. Certainly not in the 40's.
Wow, how about that nipple silhouette? The outline of a nipple wasn't a shameful thing. And it was cool to see the very slim girl included in the unhealthy example. We need more of that today. Seems to me we had a much healthier attitude about bodies in general back in those days.
I like how back then the models didn't look so underweight too. Like the pin up girls and stuff. They looked a lot healthier, quite slim but in a healthy range.
I like how they show women with curves as being healthy. Growing up in the 1990s, one of the things that bothered me was how media portrayed being skinny has being healthy and beautiful. I'm glad that in this time period, people are more accepting of women with curvy bodies.

Its definitely because of serving size rather than the item in question. If you look at old tea sets and glasses, cups, kitchen ware, that includes saucepans, pots casserole dishes. Much smaller than it is now. We're now living in a world of "The bigger the better & more bang for your buck." Rather than quality, no matter if its food or materials. This is the trouble most don't realize especially when dieting, most of the time its not the item, its your portion control. Mayo is fattening because of the egg, but egg is still healthy as long as your not eating dozens. Everything we eat must be in moderation, this is why a lot of people suffered with the gluten free diets and put more weight on rather than lost, because of the severe cut in dietary repetition. Potatoes are fattening yes, but they give a lot of energy and fill you up which saves you getting hungry in the middle of night and looking for snacks, that no doubt have loads of sugar in them due to our 'three meals a day, then dessert after dinner.' Outlook on life. Edit: No doubt its also because of all the added preservatives, chemicals hormones and GMO's that we're constantly using. Everything has a much longer shelf life than it ever did before. Its all less fresh, even some fruits have added sugar in their growth cycle so people can taste it better due to all the other highly refined sugars we're currently eating on a daily basis. If we lowered our sugar intake and preservatives, our bodies would be much healthier.

I'm a health educator. Most of this is relevant today. However, more sugars and hormones have been added to our food so we need to be extra careful about how we eat. @@TiffanyRay that is true. But many girls who have normal weight starve themselves in order to look like the celebrities they admire until they become underweight.

What I love is the lack of telling people not to get things like bread or milk or cheese. That's the problem today. Nobody teaches moderation, they just tell you to go Keto
I think the bread then was maybe healthier? No high fructose corn syrup in spreads either, which is why it's so much worse to have bread and spreads now.

Wow this video is surprisingly accurate for it's time! The only part I'd disagree with is that they showed the skinny girl get bigger boobs from exercise. Not everyone is gonna have a perfect hourglass figure like a pin up girl no matter how much they try with a healthy diet and exercise.
The illustrations were inaccurate but the info isn't entirely wrong. Building muscle in more "shapeless" areas will help balance out your body shape to an extent. I'll never have a big butt or hips but building glute muscles will at least help make it look less flat.
The plates and glassware were also smaller back then. We have BIG plates, bowls and glassware now! This encourages us to fill our plates and glasses and eat/drink more without even realizing it! Alcoholic beverage glasses, wine glasses, they are all much bigger than they used to be.
You just reminded me I bought a set of coffee cups and saucers (the 1960s )from a vintage shop. I just thought it was odd they were smaller than today's coffee cups!

I also don't subscribe to the idea that you have to be a size 0 in order to look "hot".

whats shocking to me is despite how outdated this is, I feel this carries less shame and more information then many modern versions of it, it's very to the point and they do their best to explain as much as possible as simple and fast as they can.
yupp :,( today all of these "informational" videos only say the "relevant" stuff so you'd give in and buy their 'fitness plan' LMAO
I agree, but we live in an age where if ANYTHING is said that hurts someone’s feelings, they take the stance that the person had no right to say it, as opposed to just taking in the information and processing it internally. Some of us can benefit from this information, and I’m one of them.
There is nothing dated about this video. Just because it's from another time period, it doesn't mean that it's outdated.

My favorite thing about the video; I didn’t hear one hint of a fad diet or gimmick. Everything she said was based on simplicity and common sense. I’m trying my best to implement these core essentials every day. Not easy but worth it in the long run.
Agree not like nowadays many people spreading bullshit
Yes

All of our technology and modern conveniences have caused us to lose the physical activity we need.
I'm agree...
This was posted at a perfect time. I've been fighting with my ED rearing its head up again due to stress, and this just helped me. I will work out, and then eat something small, before I sleep. Thank you

Aw get that I tried making my own baked goods and i relapsed as I gained 9 pounds with 3 hours exercise daily. I lost about 4. I geniunely thought they were going to be like "cocaine. do cocaine."
Cocaine came as tooth drops for tooth ache. They sold an entirely different kind of anphetamine for weight loss and that was in the 1950's / 1960's. Certainly not in the 40's.
Does cocaine actually make you lose weight?

Wow, how about that nipple silhouette? The outline of a nipple wasn't a shameful thing. And it was cool to see the very slim girl included in the unhealthy example. We need more of that today. Seems to me we had a much healthier attitude about bodies in general back in those days.
I like how back then the models didn't look so underweight too. Like the pin up girls and stuff. They looked a lot healthier, quite slim but in a healthy range.
Absolutely.
I like how they show women with curves as being healthy. Growing up in the 1990s, one of the things that bothered me was how media portrayed being skinny has being healthy and beautiful. I'm glad that in this time period, people are more accepting of women with curvy bodies.
LOL!! As a woman, I didn't even notice it! 😉
Everyone is horribly fat today. I’m naturally very thin and fat unhealthy women bully me about it

How to loose weight:
1. Drink LOTS of water.
2. Eat healthy.
3. Dont eat a ton.
4. Exercise.
5. Be positive!
This was made in 1946. The amount of calories in food has dramatically increased. Not in fruit amd veg but in that burger, the bread, the milk etc.
I think it's because what we think of as a serving size has changed so much since then
Its definitely because of serving size rather than the item in question.
@@marygray7422 I agree
A basic shake at Whattaburger's gonna cost you 800 calories.
@@silververnallbells191 True, but i think they’re talking about “natural” products e.g meats, milk, bread and grain. But that’s mostly because of portion sizes increasing.

Back in those days, describing a woman as "thin" or "skinny" wasnt a compliment. It meant you were underweight. Now these words have been hijacked to denote slimness.
Almost everyone was thin ans the definition of thin is very different almost everyone is fat now and even the not so fat ones call themselves thin lol
@@MysticRainDrops the words used back then that were complimentary were "slim" or "slender" . I was born 1963, nearly everyone was slim in my teens, I can only remember about 3 girls who were chubby in my high school. They were about a UK 14. There were no obese girls out of the 200 pupils. I would have been offended to be called skinny or thin.

I'm a health educator. Most of this is relevant today. However, more sugars and hormones have been added to our food so we need to be extra careful about how we eat. My one major issue is talking about curves "falling in the right places" literally everyone has different body types. Also exercise "bulking up the skinny girl" isn't fully accurate. If the "skinny girl" isn't eating enough after exercise, then she wont bulk up

Healthy living and exercise are important, but we shouldn't be encouraging them ONLY to be thin/have a certain body shape. As long as you eat healthily and exercise, your body type shouldn't matter I think. We are all different and that's okay

@@TiffanyRay that is true. But many girls who have normal weight starve themselves in order to look like the celebrities they admire until they become underweight.
