I enjoy your channel and patreon because you teach from a songwriters perspective. I also subscribe to Mike George’s channel for the same reason he has a video called the Geometry of Music that is very eye opening. I am somewhat dyslexic and scattered at times and his use of shapes, colors, and geometry somehow speaks to another part of my brain and helps me see relationships in the circle of 5ths. Between your videos and his, I am understanding a lot more. Thanks for posting
Yes yes yes!!! May we have more like this please? Switching keys is reeeeally what makes a song shine and stand out.. after your circle of 5ths vid last week it's really expanded the way I think of songwriting, this is soooooo coooool!!! Thank you thank you thank you 🙏🕊️
Excellent lesson, thank you so much, I have never seen you play a guitar made by Yamaha, I would appreciate it if you could tell your opinion about this manufacturer. They say that their FG series is the poor man's Martin…is it any good?
You know I’ve only played one! I used it in a video at Sweetwater. It posted last month, it’s called something ‘he teaches me a u2 song and blows everyone away’ That guitar was a bit pricey for me but totally down to try some other ones soon!
Hi Sean, there is always new things to learn in the people's keys. I would also drop by for a coffee if i wasn't so far away, maybe one day i'll visit California again
So I bought some elixir strings due to Sean constantly bashing them down our necks.... Elixir strings are quite pricy, you can get 3pks of Ernie Balls or D'Addario for the price of 1pk of elixir strings. Strung up my electro acoustic and was very disappointed as they sound tinny as fuck, but the day after when they had stretch in they started to come into their own. Two weeks in and I do love them, they sound great, stay in tune and they can be cleaned... Worth the extra pennies 👍
Where do I start? Great lesson Sean! I love both the keys of G & D, so they can share the title of The Peoples Key lol. I love the way you present topics like this. Theory is kinda crouch for me, but trying to learn and use it. Pointing out the similarities of those two keys makes another light bulb come on. Still wrapping my head around Sus chords, but had never heard it explained until now. Thanks for the 3-note runs, they make practicing that much more fun! As to playing the “wrong” notes, see what Victor Wooten says about that. Really an eye opener!
I think this is the missing piece/next step. Learning the common notes between chords in progressions. I’ve always had a little songwriting challenge to try and force bad notes to sound good after hearing a quote: There are no wrong notes, you just lack confidence
Hey Sean, love your stuff. Im a little cornfused when you walk up the scale in G and D as you are showing. You seem to use the basic triad for chords 1 through chord 6. When you get to chord 7 you switch to a 7th chord the minor seventh/ flat 5 the half diminished? I would think if we are following the pattern it would be just your basic diminished triad for the 7 chord? Enlighten me if you would. BTW, the peoples key has to be G because it can shake you all night long
I can’t remember if your in California, but I would definitely like to buy u lunch and hang out with u , if only for a couple of minutes of course, because your way to cool for me. Imagine that if you allowed everyone of your followers to do that, you’d never have to buy lunch for the rest of your life !😂 Something to think about 😏
Fantastic....so much fun!! Thank You Sean!
Awesome stuff!! Well explained! Please do more combining type stuff!

Well G has Gsus, which might be better than Dsus, but I digress. Entertaining, intelligent, important, and inspirational. Love elixirs too!

thanks dude
Thanks for another cool guitar lesson for us dummies.
More of these please.😂
Oh, and props for the Redondo Beach sweatshirt.
Isn't this why we play the pentatonic scales?
Hmm. Haven't seen that black acoustic guitar in a while...
Martin makes a pretty good guitar, eh? 😆
They’re the best! Are you talking about the Enya carbon fiber? I’ve still got that one back in FL

Excellent topic. However, the people's key is: Ab.
😢😮😢
Hot take!
Way cool.!
Thanks for watching!
🎵+🎶=🤗
I still need to know if E Minor is also the Peoples Key…..or the Relative Peoples Key….any thoughts?
Sean ,you could confuse Sogovia
If you can do what Sean is teaching here you’ll be able to play “Cover Me Up” by Jason Isbell, recently covered by Morgan Wallen.
