@Caleb Witt So this show was made from footage originally shot for Austin City Limits, but re-cut. Since we have always tried to shoot close ups of the musicians playing, especially guitar players, I am guessing the people that assembled (not directed) this show, were looking to use shots that were not in the original Austin City Limits cut/show. So I imagine they cut out all of the close ups that I know we would have shot. Blame the company that repackaged the show, not the cameras.

I was fortunate to SEE, BE WITH and HEAR both Roy Buchanan and James Burton, on the same stage in Bossier City, La. back in the 50's. Roy was playing with Dean and Mark Mathis. When James ambered in, he was,of course, was invited to sit in. We hid Roy behind the stage rear curtain and James did not know Roy was there. Mark was also playing guitar. After James took a ride, Mark faked playing while Roy took the ride. James was smiling at how well Mark was playing. Roy was doing the ride behind the curtain. James was surprised when Roy walked out. We all had a good laugh and then we got to hear JAMES BURTON and ROY BUCHANAN ..... JAM. What an awesome and historical night that became to me.James and I have been friends for 50+ years. James is still alive and well , living in Shreveport, La. He still tours with the TCB band. Shreveport, La is proud James moved back home and the INTERNATIONAL JAMES BURTON FOUNDATION is housed here.
I was sad to hear of ROY'S demise and I am proud to have known and had the privilege, as friends of knowing both these GUITAR GREATS. I know and have also been friends with GERRY MCGEE ( The Ventures) Gerry is living and doing well in Opalouses, La.
"IT and THEM", JOHNNY and EDGAR WINTER also played the "FAMOUS BOSSIER STRIP". That is enough for now. Regaeds...

He even got one of Roys guitars and while Danny was probably a little more versatile and played a wider variety of styles, Roy was MUCH more experimentive and eclectic. Danny was more into making music, Roy wanted to experiment and be a Showman! If Danny and Roy were compared to strat players then Danny would be Clapton and Roy would be Hendrix. I mean that not because their styles are anywhere near their strat brothers, i mean in the sense of how they approached music.

He knew it! And I am amazed by how great he had executed it . The Show is archived and it means so much to me.

The man stole my hearing in a very small venue in PA and he deserves it - no body plays the blues better than him.

This is one of those immortal moments in the history of Blues-Rock. Roy is simply majestic on the Tele -- to this dang it day no-one has been able to equal Roy's Tele Magic.

Ever listen to Michael Bloomfield? Try it. Roy was fast but with little taste.

+Steve Mendelson Michael Bloomfield was no where near as good with a tele as Roy was. I consider Bloomfield as more of a Les Paul guy tbh. Roy knew how to get tones nobody could out of a telecaster. Michael was nowhere near as experimental in terms of tone and technique.
Go listen to After Hours By Roy Buchanan or 5 String Blues if you want to say he has little taste.
You base him showing off to the crowd to say he has no taste and just has a fast and sloppy sound. This song is really just to show off guitar technique. Listen to his other works and you'll realize he's very good melodically as well.

Danny Gatton I would call his equal. Both were amazing and both wore the moniker of “World’s Best Unknown Guitar Player”. Do they still make guitarists like them anymore?

Gatton was over the top pyrotrickery hyperflash country swing with plenty of blues, whereas Roy was blues flash and tricks. They were both unusual in many ways, but accessible, too. They were also fixtures in the DC club scene during the same era. Very entertaining, wear ear protection.
