You've saved yourself around £350 , in comparison to the Price of a Prestige Big Boy power " kit".. so I guess its a win..... End of the day, a powered barrow is an absolute game changer. Especially in the winter mud. And you can rig up the batteries as emergency power banks.. There's so many pluses to having a power barrow... Atm, though, they are priced out of many anglers reach..... Cheers for the honest upload.
Yes mate I'd not compared my spend with the prestige kit so yes that's a great point. I hear the "game changer" phrase so often but it's bang on. Thanks for the kind feedback. Tight lines Steve
Just watched your video as thinking about doing this myself Good video Being a Carpenter my self you worried about your measurements to much get yourself a combination Square It makes it a lot easier to transfer your measurements over 👍🏻
Hi mate Thanks for the feedback, good luck with the conversion, you'll be so glad you did once you're up and running. I'm loving the fact I'm not knackered when I get to my peg. Tight lines Steve
Great video and build steve i think u were a bit hard on yourself u got there job done and it does wot it says on the tin a power barrow is the way to go in my opinion im biting the bullet and ordering a whole new power barrow from carporter mate ive been a cpl of adventures this year to the cotswold water park and barrowing is torture lol enjoy your new barrow and be lucky tightlines
Cheers pal, really appreciate that and glad you're getting a power barrow, it's deffo the way to go especially when doing nights having the bed, extra food, cooking gear etc It's all about making things easier and prolonging the enjoyment as the years creep up on us. Tight lines mate 👌🏻 Steve
I'm curious, I'm guessing this is simply a bicycle hub motor where they changed the rim a bit and slapped on a big tire. Does anyone know if the gears are plastic? I'm also guessing the axle is kind of thin. Good for bikes but it's a question if it holds up years of abuse in a wheelbarrow.
It's a scooter rear wheel with a max load of 150kg, I'm guessing the majority of barrows don't weigh close to this. My barrow itself weighs in at around 18kg plus the wheels. A typical load weight for me doing a couple of nights will be around 60-70 kg, 100kg total, easily nowhere near the 150kg limit. I've no idea what materials are used in the gearing but the axle fills me with confidence. I'm guessing the motor will go before anything else.
Nice job steve turned out nice i looked into these myself watched a few vids on youtube but ended up ordering a barrowconversionsuk power kit bit extra than u had to fork out at £615 but without the hassle now no peg is too far or that extra kit isn't too much now lol
Cheers pal, I too ordered from ukbarrowconversions but ended up cancelling my order due to the long lead times. Hence this build. Thanks for the kind feedback. Tight lines Steve
Hi I used a old mobility scooter motor and frame, and a makita 18v 5A battery, works well, battery lasts for weeks lol surprised with that, there is a video of it
Hi Steve,One Question. When you connected the wheel to the control box, you used a 12 pin Deutsch connector. There are 8 wires coming from the wheel, and 8 wires coming from the control box. How did you get 16 wires into a 12 pin connector? Regards Glenn
@glennrobinson7716 Hi Glen. I split the 8 wires from the wheel, The 3 the phase wires went to the 3 way high powered blue connector that you'll see in the video. The other 5 hall sensor wires went to a 6 pin Deutsch connector. The remaining speed, forward and reverse wires were connected to a12 pin Deutsch block. Hope this helps pal. Regards Steve
Nice video thank you
Brilliant video given me the confidence to have a go at doing mine

how do you rate bank tackle hooklink materials compared to the ‘names brands’ been looking into them an unsure if to buy some
Which 1 are you looking at and what are you using it for. Hard clean bottom, weedy?
