  • FilmUnlimited is a collection of Resolve 17 PowerGrades emulating Kodak 5207 250D and Kodak 5219 500T negative film: juanmelara.com...
    This is a small selection of commercial work I have graded with FilmUnlimited over the last year. Projects shot on the ARRI Alexa, Sony Venice, BMD Pocket 6K and Red Komodo.

    Film Unlimited is fantastic, I really appreciate the low amount of noise generated and finesse with exposure and white balance. It's made matching Bmpcc 6k footage with 8 bit Slog2 so much easier 👍 thanks !

    Hi Juan, I got this a while back and it has been a pleasure working with the Powergrades. I had a query regarding the applications of these Powergrades to images. I do photography too and want my images to look similar to the results created by these Powergrades in videos. Do you have any tips in which I could apply these to images? I have tried converting the images to a flat Cinelog Profile through ACR but the results are just not punchy enough when I perform the Color Space Transform and apply the grade in Resolve.

    So just trying to understand; does one use the Film Unlimited in conjunction with the Sony2Alexa or RED2Alexa etc. Power grades? Or is this a stand alone / separate grading process?
    Going to be using Resolve for the first time,
    Resolve seems intimidating / complex but I really want to get better at grading, perhaps I’ll be able to figure out a workflow with one of your power grades. Thanks for making these

    • @JuanMelara82
      @JuanMelara82  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's not necessary to use the 2Alexa transforms. You can use the CST method to convert your footage to the correct colour space and gamma. The 2Alexa transforms will give you better results though.
      If you're new to Resolve, I would probably hold off on getting FilmUnlimited unless you have a lot of time to learn and experiment. It's not particularly difficult to use, but it might be a bit overwhelming for someone just starting out.

    please teach us how to maximize the DR like in this shots

    • @ronineditor9920
      @ronineditor9920 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to either soften a shadows/highlights/contrast node or stretch it at the base grade. Some grade 'crush' it too much, which kills DR... you just have to back it off or even just take the end grade's serial and take the percentage down to whatever level and you'll recover DR.

    • @JuanMelara82
      @JuanMelara82  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Unfortunately since these are commercial projects, I can't really add the full film texture and grain. The agency would reject the spot immediately. And if it got through, I can't imagine a client like McDonalds would approve it. Good thing is you can add as much or as little as you like. So if your clients love it, then go to town.

In a brand new nodegraph, add the plugin to a node. Set the input to match your Z Cam color space so likely zlog/zlog2. Set your output to AlexaWGRGB/LogC.
