Best thing about Insomnium riffs is that they can be used as warm up or practice exercises even without playing the whole song. Sometimes you just want to have a melody to play.
insomnium be like: "let's have cookie monster singing about how he missed his loved one while we play epic melodic metal in the background" and i love it
Been listening to Insomnium since the mid 2000's, and I truly enjoy every album they've released, But I really wish they'd play more of their early catalog live. I wonder if it has to do with Ville only playing select shows, while Markus and Jani are more familiar with the albums they've been involved in. Regardless Since the Day it All Came Down and Above the Weeping World have some absolute classics and it's a shame they don't play more often. Also I've always felt One for Sorrow is the most overlooked album in their discography. Great job with the covers
To me Above The Weeping World and Across The Dark are still the very best albums they did. Afterwards they had great moments and great songs (really loved Shadows of the Dying Sun) but they never really captured the magic of their early period. Funnily enough I think they're better on EPs than they are on albums as of late... I really disliked One For Sorrow when it came out but now I think it's a fun album to put on every now and then.
I'm really deceived about the direction of the style Insomnium took in their latest releases. Coming from an avid fan, I can see the difference in the creativity departement in the older albums compared to the newer ones. The new releases are very much similar and sound the same after HLAG with the emphasis on acoustic material and cleaner/softer singing.
They also introduced a lot more black metal and prog into their sound. I don't think there's that much accoustics (especialy compared to earlier stuff) but I agree that, while still amazing, they started to feel watered down. Their new music works much better to me on EPs, don't know if the material's better or they're more digestible in smaller chunks. Most notably, everything from Winter's Gate on just feels... Interchangable? It's still good music but I could pretty easily say which song was from which album based on style alone. Now it all started to just blend together. Still love 'em but I am afraid they'll reach the Amorphis point when there's so much of their music that's so similar to each other I just won't be able to stand it anymore.
@@jojoplaysmusic more than satisfied) Pale Morning Star and Heart Like A Grave are 2 best songs on the album! (But will be honest - there is no bad track on it)

They’re proof Death Metal can be beautiful
Cause they are Melodic Death Metal!!!!
Insomnium has been my favorite band ever since I heard While We Sleep. Probably one of the most consistent melodeath bands imo.

You absolutely nailed the tones and guitar parts, loved this!
Hey thank you so much! :)
Yeah even Insomnium have said it's hard to nail their tone due to layering.
Journey Unknown is pretty killer

Thank you! One for Sorrow is definitely underrated.
As a big fan of the earlier album of insomnium, I couldn't agree more with your comment

Why there is no riff from HLAG ? This album is a city of riffs.
What are you talking about? I played Pale Morning Star
@@jojoplaysmusic oh, sorry ) accidentally skipped this part forward
@@sergeyromanenko6329 hope you’re satisfied with my choice ;)
