In this making a Toy Playset themed time lapse we build a giant sized custom MOTU Castle Grayskull fortress of power playset for our one of a kind miniature Master of the Universe action figure. Since we were missing the vintage He-Man Castle Grayskull fortress of mystery and power in our toy collection we decided to just build it. It ended up being a pretty fun family project for us and we might still even purchase the toy one or get the newer version like the MOTU Origins Castle Grayskull. We made the large playset into a Castle Bed/Playhouse perfect for a little Lord of Power. In this video of the MOTU castle series we share the build clips in time lapse to music as sort of an ASMR style video on fabricating this giant toy inspired Castle Grayskull. We decided to make the exterior of the castle door look like the rock style prototype but with the overall shape of the vintage style wood door. We also made the teeth similar to the prototype with animal teeth verses human teeth. We made the locking slider mechanism used with the power sword like the vintage toy from Mattel. Except instead of creating two slots with the toy we combined it into one. We based the design off the look of original Castle Grayskull in the early Alfredo Alcala Masters of the Universe mini comics and the original sculpt for the prototype by Mark Taylor. We started by framing the wood structure then attached white bead foam Styrofoam with Great Stuff expanding foam and have started carving the shape. We will incorporate a few things he can do to interact his action figures with the castle. We may even try to make the interior based off the toy playset. The paint scheme will try to stay close to the original toy line from the 80s. We even took a few inspirations from the He-Man animation and he-man and the masters of the universe tv program cartoon full episodes. Join us as we try to capture the true Spirit of Grayskull and solve all the many mysteries behind the making of this epic build.

That is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time what craftsmanship I miss the eighties but I’d be proud to put this in my front yard
Jesus Christ this is the highest level of craftsmanship at the highest skill level, not to mention the engineering that had to be done to get everything together so seamlessly. The attention given to so many subtle details really makes it stand out; no, stand ALONE! I still have my Castle Greyskull from my childhood down in my basement somewhere. If I'd had something like this, I might still be using it now, forty some odd years later.
Lucky kid, it looks like he truly enjoys and appreciates the truly phenomenal work that went in to it. Certainly nice to let him help out with parts during the construction. It adds to the appreciation when you feel like you were a part of making something that you have any passion about.

I was never a he-man fan, but this was fantastic! I tried making my own "Jaws" shark with fiberglass and it just didn't work out right. I don't have the patience or the money to continue working with fiberglass, either. Someday I hope to finish my shark with EVA foam and cosplay thermoplastic, instead!

Is there any specific reason for the different applications of the foul (paint on adhesive, spray on adhesive of Aluminum Tape)?

Did you use a coat of gel after the fiberglass? It was a white gloss you put on the smooth it out. I see in this video you cut the styrofoam out which is what ill do. Is there a list of supplies I can find somewhere please? Thank you so much. This is awesome!

Have you guys ever done the tinfoil then fiberglass over cardboard for thinner things ?! I have tons of large sheets of cardboard & wonder if that could work ? The cardboard would melt/degrade outside, but the fiberglass would remain?!
We haven't ever used cardboard but sounds like it would work.
Missed the front of the door.the wood texturing and the shield...
Part of me would like to create that door as well just to carve the the fun details. But for this project I was trying to match the vintage comic illustrations I grew up with and the images of the prototype Grayskull to be different.
