I like this hint, because it makes layout really easy, during placement!
But I have one question:
What about courtyard? Doesn't it have this purpose ?
Hello, I use Courtyard layer to do this. But I am not able to add a rule to avoid intersection between components ! do you have a hint for this ? Thank you
It also gives a visual reference (if silkscreen is printed) if component are placed correctly and havent moved. Regarding the example, did you have trouble with soldering the balls on the bga? Do the toplayer planes draw heat from the soldering process? It was suggested to me that doing this on the toplayer might cause trouble in production. If not it is a good way to have more room underneath the bga for decoupling capacitors. Good job robert! Really like the tip videos.
I love Robert's hints, but this video would have been a lot better if he had stated what "a little" means. I come across this issue all the time, and would have liked to hear Robert's views on how much excess space is enough...
